Hello fragrant friends,

This is edition 33 (!) of the long running perfumista threads.

Newbies most definitely welcome. Come and discuss your Scent Of The Day (SOTD), old favourites, new infatuations, the best dupes and scents of any price point. We are very friendly! 😊

Just FYI le jardin retrouve have 25% off for next 48 hours with code collab4love with 10% going to a charity that protects the oceans.

I've treated myself to a 15ml of cuir de russie 🙂

Sotd will be ck contradiction again. Loving it in this muggy weather 😍

FestivelyScent · 31/07/2022 17:31

Oh, good. Mumsnet is back. I couldn't post at all yesterday evening, something about servers - it all went right over the top of my head.
Anyway, SOYesterday was Ambre Orient.

No SOTD for today yet - it's been a busy sort of Sunday.

SOTD is Violet Ida. I love how it smells on me but it's so subtle as to be non-existent :(

FestivelyScent · 31/07/2022 23:29

SOTD is Samsara - because it has been quite chilly these past few evenings and tonight is rather close. Samsara is my humidity repellent!

SOTD Chanel 5.

@ThreeImaginaryBoys i find Violet Ida really strong! It’s a BIG fragrance on me. I’d had it on one day last week, then went out for a run and worried everyone I passed was being whacked with it once I heated up.

CorneliaStreet · 01/08/2022 09:25

SOTD Paco Rabanne Olympea.

Chevyimpala67 · 01/08/2022 10:43

Sotd ck contradiction again

simbobs · 01/08/2022 10:53

Sotd - Nuxe Sun Eau Delicieuse, just because the sun is out and it smells of summer.

ThreeImaginaryBoys · 01/08/2022 14:14

SOTD is Marlou Poudrextase.
First try and it's gorgeous.

Chevyimpala67 · 01/08/2022 18:11

I've ordered some ck reveal 🙂 it's a blind buy so I might not be smiling once it's here 🙃

I've also ordered more pp mmm witl (mine leaked) AND ACDD!

I bought yet another book today....so have finally started on my pile. I wonder if we should start a book club too 🤔 🤣

In less happy news my diet started today. I am heavier than I've ever been and look distinctively matronly -- 😵‍💫 sigh.

Judystilldreamsofhorses · 01/08/2022 20:51

SOTD TF Soleil Blanc.

what are you reading, @Chevyimpala67 ? I finished Meredith, Alone last week (Claire Alexander) and am now on The Measure by Nikki Erlick.

Mothers boy by Patrick gale
Good so far...

CorneliaStreet · 01/08/2022 21:43

I’d love a book club or, even better, a perfume book club. I love it when a writer mentions what perfume a character is wearing. Mitsouko is mentioned in the book I am reading at the moment (The Whalebone Theatre by Joanna Quinn) - it’s set in the 1920s and a character makes a snarky remark about someone wearing Mitsouko, as it’s already a bit passe.

Jilly Cooper is brilliant on scents. Ladies are always dousing themselves in Fracas whilst on dates with handsome cads (probably subsequently knocking them out, chucking on a load of a perfume that strong!).

Judystilldreamsofhorses · 01/08/2022 22:11

I loved Patrick Gale’s Rough Music so, so much @Chevyimpala67 - none of his others have come close.

@CorneliaStreet last summer I re-read a load of JC, plus Valley of the Dolls!

Judystilldreamsofhorses · 01/08/2022 22:11

Actually summer 2020, I think I needed to feel “safe” while the world was in such chaos.

CorneliaStreet · 01/08/2022 22:15

I love Jilly. I still re-read them occasionally for comfort. Close tie for my favourite between Rivals and Polo, but I think Rivals edges it.

FestivelyScent · 01/08/2022 23:39

I love books and have far far too many. I find I go through phases, there will be long periods of time when I devour books as though I've been starved, and read uber intensely, followed by times of listlessness, where I can't seem to settle to any genre or author and no particular book feels right.

Right now I'm reading Jacob's Room is Full of Books by Susan Hill. It's a diary, and quite reflective, but I love reading published diaries as I'm an incorrigibly nosy person! When that's finished, I think I'll reread something from Amy Tan - one of my favourite authors.

The only Jilly Cooper I've read is How to Survive Christmas. It was very wry. I keep meaning to explore more of her work.

I love reading about perfume in novels! I remember reading an Agatha Christie where Poirot described smelling this sophisticated, classy and subtle scent in a secluded cave - jasmine and rose, I think - and it was something of a clue as to who had been there. A perfume blogger thought Christie might have been referring to Chanel No5.

SOTD is Ambre Orient.

SOTD penhaligon’s Bluebell

This is one I hated when I first smelled, but has now grown on me and I’m obsessed. Funny, isn’t it?

That is evil under the sun

Chevyimpala67 · 02/08/2022 08:53

Really odd , muggy weather here today so yet again sotd will ck contradiction 🙂💙

Cantonet · 02/08/2022 10:02

I have Fidji, la Chasse Aux Papillon, Forest Neroli & Guerlain Neroli Bianco on me this morning. In preparation for selling them. Very few perfumes smell right at the moment sadly.

Ooh yes, I would be up for a book discussion. I used to be a right bookworm. I've just read Three Sisters - a continuation of the Auschwitz story that started with The Tattooist Of Auschwitz. I always made a point of reading the Booker prize winners in the past & loved Sci. Fi. when I was young.

CorneliaStreet · 02/08/2022 10:51

@Chevyimpala67 Do you mind me asking where the marshmallow body lotion you sometimes talk about is from? I'm looking for a sweet, gourmand lotion and that one sounds delicious. I got the Bath & Body Works Warm Vanilla Sugar cream from Next recently but either I've got a dud or it's not as good as the reviews suggest, because it hardly smells of anything to me.

Or does anyone know of any other good, fragrant lotions? The best I've tried is the Laura Mercier vanilla & amber one, but it's so expensive. (Might ask for the creme brulee one for Christmas though.)

ThreeImaginaryBoys · 02/08/2022 11:56

SOTD is Chanel Allure.

Thanks for this thread @FestivelyScent. It has made me revisit all of my perfumes and inspired me to step out of my comfort zone (I'm looking at you, vanilla!).

Judystilldreamsofhorses · 02/08/2022 17:40

SOTD Diptyque Philosykos.
