Hello fragrant friends,

This is edition 33 (!) of the long running perfumista threads.

Newbies most definitely welcome. Come and discuss your Scent Of The Day (SOTD), old favourites, new infatuations, the best dupes and scents of any price point. We are very friendly! 😊

Apologies if this is too far off topic, but I've just switched to Fussy deodorant. Their parma violet variant is absolutely lovely. It's very lipstick-like.

Hmmm...talk to me of this thing you speak of 😃

I might use my escentual pretty pennies in stocking fillers for dh/dc.

Cantonet · 24/09/2022 18:00

it sounds lovely @ThreeImaginaryBoys but it's so costly. I just can't bring myself to pay £20.00 for a case & refill.

ThreeImaginaryBoys · 24/09/2022 18:17

@Chevyimpala67 It's a planet-friendly refillable deodorant. You get the case and then subscribe to quarterly refills. I had been using Wild, which is a similar principle, but I think Fussy is better. And the parma violet is amazing.

@Cantonet hmmmmm ... I paid £13 for the case and first refill. Refills last about a month, cost £5 each, and are sent quarterly in batches of 3 (so £15 a quarter). I think that stacks up pretty well against what I used to pay for disposable deodorant.

Chevyimpala67 · 24/09/2022 18:58

Sounds very nice @Cantonet

I’ve been having fun with the Escentuals vanilla box tonight. As I understand it, they only include brands they sell, which narrows the options somewhat. I am sure I know what A and D are (and that I own both). A is a classic. I’m rather fond of D too and wear it quite often. I have a vague idea what B and F may be.

C is probably the most divisive scent in the box, looking at the Facebook comments. I hated it on first try, but liked it a lot more tonight. It does smell vaguely familiar. Not one I have a sample of, but I have an idea it’s something I tried with similar mixed feelings previously.

Have no idea what E is, but I do rather like it - very nutty smell on me.

FestivelyScent · 25/09/2022 00:00

I recently switched to a natural salt crystal deodorant - it's completely unscented, and I could swear I can smell my perfumes better since stopping using scented deo. Plus, it will last me months - I've been using it for 8 wks so far and it's hardly decreased in size at all. It was only £5! Very good value.

My Escentual Vanilla thingy didn't arrive, but I did get a refund. I'll try again with the spice box.

SOTD was Youth Dew for watching Christmas movies and then the first ep of Strictly. This is my favourite time of year - it's officially the run up to Christmas! 🍂❄️🎄Xmas Smile

SOTN is Coco

What do you think D is? I really love it!

AprilLady · 26/09/2022 08:24

@Mrcpy I’m fairly sure it’s Serge Lutens Un Bois Vanille. I really like it too.

That one was on my wish list to try! 😊

Kat135 · 26/09/2022 09:13

Oh no. Looks like Perfume Parlour is back down again. I was too late with my order.

Chevyimpala67 · 26/09/2022 09:44

D is lovely!

In fact I'll wear it as Sotd today.

I'm not going to get the oud box (can be tricky to get toght imo) bit I might get the musk box.

chilliesandspices · 26/09/2022 10:09

I really liked D. Sadly not such a fan of E which I'm wearing today. It's slowly turning to vanilla but the opening smelled like wee on my skin. I assumed this box would be full of safe choices.. I was wrong.

My DH is quite obsessed with the AdP Mandorlo di Sicilia from last month's Almond box and keeps asking when I'm going to start wearing it again. He hasn't been a fan of this box so far which surprised us both because he usually loves vanilla.

Alienbigcat45 · 26/09/2022 10:25

There's something in the opening of E I'm not keen on, it reminds of hospitals. But the dry down is quite pleasant.

Cantonet · 26/09/2022 10:40

L'Occitane Eau d'Iparie is Sotd for the first time since Winter. It's such a unique scent - a sheer green incense that's very unisex & sadly discontinued for the second time.

CorneliaStreet · 26/09/2022 10:44

@chilliesandspices I agree, I was expecting lots of safe and more gourmand vanilla scents but there is a big variation in there. The almond box was generally more obviously likeable, I think (assuming you like almond, of course). The AdP one is gorgeous.

For the vanilla box, I'm wasn't sure about A and I found C a bit challenging, but worth another try. I really didn't like G. I liked F and D as well - I've always wanted to try Un Bois Vanille too, so I hope it is that. B seems familiar to me, but I'm not sure whether it's because it's something I actually know or if it's just quite generic and similar to lots of things out there. I think it's a celebrity or mass market perfume, maybe Juicy Couture or something like that.

Still got E and H to try, will give E a try this evening.

I have probably the biggest fragrance decision of my life to make - what to wear on my wedding day! My top contender so far is atelier des ors nuda veritas. I really want to try hummingbird by zoologist and MFK feminin pluriel.

I’m getting married in the UK in the summer, in an orangery with lots of flowers. Does anyone have any suggestions of other perfumes I should try?

MissBattleaxe · 26/09/2022 11:19

@pinkpetunias Congratulations! There's a stunning orange flower fragrance from Karen Timson Fine Fragrance called Hera. It's absolutely bursting with orange blossom. As soon I smelled it I thought of weddings. You can get samples from the website. I'd love to know what you think.

DeepDown12 · 26/09/2022 11:41

SOTD is Angel Share. Miserable morning so needed a pick-me-up - AS feels warm.

TragicMuse · 26/09/2022 11:53

Today my SOTD is Bruno Fazzolari Monserrat. It's the very end of a 5ml sample. And he doesn't make it any more 😢

Hiya, same here. When is your wedding?
I'm currently favouring either Both Sides of Cloud - 4160 Tuesdays or Besos - Carner.

SandrasAnnoyingFriend · 26/09/2022 12:07

SOTD - Ealing Green - 4160

I like this a lot more on second wear, I think I've just come to accept I can't handle any scent if I'm hungover.

pinkpetunias · 26/09/2022 12:30

Thank you @MissBattleaxe the notes look lovely, going to order it!

@SandrasAnnoyingFriend june! I’ve not tried anything from either of those brands actually. I keep getting targeted ads for carner though. I need to go on a huge sample/decant purchasing session to have enough days to get through trialling options. Have you ruled anything out in your search?

SandrasAnnoyingFriend · 26/09/2022 15:27

@pinkpetunias I am July 8th, so pretty close to you.
I have ruled out plenty!

Putain des Palaces
Slow Explosions
Telegrama
Entre Ciel et Mer
Beso Negro
Sable & Soleil

All from Bloom, various perfumers

Ealing Green
Rhubarb and custard
Meet Me On The Corner
Mother Nature’s Naughty Daughters
Tokyo Spring Blossom

From 4160Tuesdays

Also Molecule 1, which I thought I'd like a lot.

I want to try Masque Milano l Attesa, as the description from @Cantonet sounds perfect for my tastes.

PeloFondo · 26/09/2022 18:32
