Hello fragrant friends,

This is edition 33 (!) of the long running perfumista threads.

Newbies most definitely welcome. Come and discuss your Scent Of The Day (SOTD), old favourites, new infatuations, the best dupes and scents of any price point. We are very friendly! 😊

Ha! @Chevyimpala67 I was well behaved.

I tested EL Modern Muse. Smells pretty grim on me.

The two Guerlain AAs I tried, on the other hand, are lovely (Granada Salvia and Cherrysia). I get the feeling they won't last long though ... let's see by the time I get to Gatwick!

I bought a half price bottle of EL Bronze Goddess Eau Fraiche, which was quite restrained.

Given that I put on Insolence this morning, I am emitting a fair old pong at the moment ...

chilliesandspices · 21/08/2022 10:52

The only problem with the blind trials is that you don't have a clue what SOTD you have. Difficult to show off until they reveal them 😂

The Guerlain AAs have a very short life on me. I really loved the bergamot one but it was gone after a couple of hours.

SOTD is Dior Addict Eau Fraiche. I found a mini bottle that must have been shoved in the back of a drawer years ago. Smells lovely despite its age.

Cantonet · 21/08/2022 11:17

Sotd is Tesori d'oriente White Musk.
Tk maxx had a big box of the shower cream, bath soak & perfume for a tenner. It reminds me of my youth in the body shop white Musk, but it's also strangely reminiscent of baby powder.

Cantonet · 21/08/2022 11:19

Thank you @Festivalscent💙

PeloAddict · 21/08/2022 12:17

SOTD clean cotton t shirt

Alienbigcat45 · 21/08/2022 12:34

SOTD Nahema
If I lived a glamorous life in a warm country I'd have a bottle of AA Pamplelune in my summer handbag. But I don't. Instead it's Green Tea in my rucksack.

TwoFloofyFragrantCats · 21/08/2022 12:59

@Alienbigcat45 that was the cabbage patch dolls' head perfume! Piver heliotrope blanc! Gorgeous and highly recommended to almond/vanilla fans, I bought a FB and IIRC it was under £25.

@FestivelyScent you have totally enabled encouraged me to buy Angel's share. Good work Wink

Does anyone know if you can "stack" the credit for the escentual sample boxes? If I bought the next two it would pay for DD's birthday present. She likes Black Opium - smells wonderful on her but awful on me. See also Baccarat Rouge - I've lost count of the women I have asked what perfume they are wearing because they smell amazing and it's BR. It smells like grout cleaner on me.

Good wishes to everyone with GCSE and A level DC - the last couple of years have extremely stressful for us re this so I sympathise. Interestingly my DC who had the most stress due to not getting predicted grades and going through clearing, to a completely different uni, is the happiest of the lot at her uni now. God it can be a stressful and worrying time though isn't it. Flowers to all.

TwoFloofyFragrantCats · 21/08/2022 13:03

Forgot to say my SOTD is sample D from the Escentual box. According to the blurb this is a "moody almond". I love the thought that I smell like a moody almond, it's been one of my goals in life Grin

(Gorgeous at first sniff, an hour later it is a skin scent slightly reminiscent of Glossier You, in that I can barely smell it. This is annoying. Goodness I am a moody almond today.)

chilliesandspices · 21/08/2022 13:25

@TwoFloofyFragrantCats Yes, you can stack the credits. They last for a year from the last time you either earned or spent credit.

I also love black opium and baccarat rouge. Ariana Grande's cloud perfume is a similar type of scent but much cheaper. Well worth trying.

Alienbigcat45 · 21/08/2022 14:49

@TwoFloofyFragrantCats what a coincidence! Sarah and @MissBattleaxe describe Piver Heliotrope Blanc as 'almost perfect' in the Perfume Companion. (Sadly not one of the scents TKmaxx had in stock)

I'm not fond of the original modern muse either

But love modern muse nuit

Probably my most successful blind buy in recent years 😍 thanks to @MissBattleaxe

@FestivelyScent can you prod me when the next escentual box is available? I'm definitely getting it :)
So you get credits too? How marvellously dangerous for me 🤣😉

MissBattleaxe · 21/08/2022 15:23

I am jolly pleased to hear that I am such an enabler! A few months back LT Piver Heliotrope was £7 in TK Maxx. I have to ay that I've found TK Maxx quite disappointing on the perfume front lately, even the big Cardiff one. Sod's law says that all the good stuff will come up when I've got no money.

ThreeImaginaryBoys · 21/08/2022 19:35

@chilliesandspices You were right about the AA scents. Didn't survive the flight.

@Alienbigcat45 I love Nahema so much. I bet you smell absolutely gorgeous.

Came home to my first PP dupe purchases waiting on the doormat. I went for the oils. The L'Air Du Desert Morocain is fantastic ... citrus and spice and comforting warmth. So that's about my tenth SOTD after my foray in duty free :)

CorneliaStreet · 21/08/2022 19:56

SOTE is Si Fiori. I’ve decided this is my favourite of the Si range, which is a bit annoying as a) it is the one that is discontinued and b) I’ve got loads of the original Si to use up.

I’m definitely going to get the vanilla blind box. Would be good if a few of us get it so we can compare notes 🙂

CorneliaStreet · 21/08/2022 19:58

@Chevyimpala67 I’ve just had a look and the vanilla box is released on 31st August.

Pigeon31 · 21/08/2022 20:06

All the vibes to everyone with family who had had A level results this week, hope it all went well.

Back from a weekend with friends and my BDK samples arrived so that's exciting. I have been mostly trying samples this year and had BDK Wood Jasmin included as a freebie with the last batch, which I kind of love but am still getting my head around, but enough to want to check out what else they do. I ordered them from the BDK website and was wondering if that might mean extra charges for shipping into the UK but apparently not. You can pick 4 x 2ml samples for 15 euros (plus shipping).

Also a free sample of D by Diesel which I tried first because ... it was free. It's quite pleasant (so far) - burst of lavender on the opening settling into a warm, clean vanilla. May see if OH wants to try it. Unfortunately I'm just not into vanilla so not really for me.

FestivelyScent · 21/08/2022 20:51

@TwoFloofyFragrantCats Hope you enjoy the Angel's Share. 😊

@Chevyimpala67 Will do. You get credits?! 😁

@CorneliaStreet Ooh, not long to wait. The 31st is only next week. I'm quite looking forward to all those vanilla-y smells - perfect for the very-much-welcome start of autumn. It will be great to compare notes with all of you.

SOTD is Boots Lavender Water, which I'm trying to finish. I've ordered the Yardley's Original Lavender and only hope they haven't changed the smell.

I'm definitely in :)

Judystilldreamsofhorses · 21/08/2022 21:06

SOTD Chanel 5. Yesterday was Byredo Gypsy Water.

FestivelyScent · 21/08/2022 22:24

SOTN is Shalimar.

Pigeon31 · 22/08/2022 09:58

SOTD gris charnel.

Gosh this is lovely, it's very creamy and I'm getting a bit of sweet cardamom, sandalwood, something that is a bit like vanilla but less annoying (tonka bean?), coconut.

It feels luxurious, I can't stop sniffing my wrists :)

Chevyimpala67 · 22/08/2022 10:48

Sotd ck contradiction

Mrcpy · 22/08/2022 11:49

SOTD: I’m doing the escentuals almond box too, and today I’ve got A on my left wrist and B on my right wrist.

A has a base of amber which is fascinating, but I don’t like the top or middle notes. B is very bland almond reminiscent of cheap hand cream.

Tried C and D last night - not amazed, but need to smell them again before forming an opinion.

Maybe there’ll be something nice in the rest of the box. But my learning point might be that I don’t really like almond!… sorry to be negative if anyone really likes these scents.

Also when I ordered the almond box, I bought Ariana Grande Cloud too. Not tried it yet but looking forward! They also sent two samples in the box which is nice. I can see myself continuing with this monthly scheme. The credit is nice. Looking forward to vanilla month.

ThreeImaginaryBoys · 22/08/2022 12:02

I just lifted my vintage Coco EDP from its box and the stopper came loose. Over half of it spilt on the floor.

I know this is a first world problem, but ... :(

At least my bedroom smells nice, I suppose, if a little strong ...
