Hello fragrant friends,

This is edition 33 (!) of the long running perfumista threads.

Newbies most definitely welcome. Come and discuss your Scent Of The Day (SOTD), old favourites, new infatuations, the best dupes and scents of any price point. We are very friendly! 😊

Hoping everyone is coping OK with the heat (if you have it, that is. If you don't, please tell me where you live so I can move there).

I'm so over summer. I feel so ill, my migraine still hasn't gone, and the only thing I've done all day is drink (water). I've drunk so much fluid, I may as well be a water pipe and I can't imagine ever feeling cool again. It is 30° indoors here atm - I don't think it's been below 26° in some rooms for weeks. Bluergh.

I haven't even fancied using any of my really summery, hot weather smells during these few heatwaves. They are just sitting there looking at me. I have huge bottles of Citrus and Lavender splash colognes, 4711, and other sunny things I usually wear and don't feel any inclination to open them.

SOTD is Shazam, which smells dry and spicy and seems to go well with the weather.

It's so, so oppressive 😰

Move to Scotland! Where I live is 16c at the moment and covered in haar. But you have my sympathy if you are struggling in the heat and humidity, it's so energy sapping.

Solidarity @Chevyimpala67 Flat in a built-up suburb here and all the heat is just trapped and hanging in the air. Oppressive is the word. I feel absolutely awful.

I'm packing my bags as we speak @Alienbigcat45 😂 16° sounds positively chilly compared to this.

I haven't moved from the sofa all day, but I have finally drummed up enough willpower and enthusiasm to chose a book. Half of a Yellow Sun by Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie will hopefully prevent my brain from atrophying for lack of use.

Oh, I liked that book.
I'm eyeing my pild by the but can't seem to summon the energy 😪

SOTD was the first scent in the Escentual blind trial. The theme is almond this month. Sadly fragrance A is a masculine scent but it dried down to a sweet marzipan so I forgive it. It's worn off enough that I've decided to wear Arian Grande's Cloud this evening. Not something I'd have confessed to when I first became a fragrance snob but it smells lovely and I quite like the cute bottle in a cloud.

I'm just calorie counting and tbh not really feeling hungry but I'm a terrible boredom eater...usually I'd be tucking into biscuits or chocolate about now...

Despite the promised rain none has arrived here so it's still hot but now muggy too. Ugh.

I don't think we will get rain until 8am tomorrow. The earth really needs it...everywhere is just brown and dead :(

SOTD is Guerlain Insolence. It's lovely.
I put on a top that I wore a few days ago and the residual smell on there was delicious.

Yet another expensive Guerlain scent to add to my favourites ... bang goes the budget ...

I've just ordered a bottle of Avon timeless from ebay as they have discontinued it :(

I'm gutted. I've worn this beautiful ambery chypre for decades. Avon are idiots. I'm livid 😡

I don't want to encourage you but... have you tried the Escentual blind trial boxes? The last two boxes had 4 Guerlain fragrances out of 16 total. The cost (minus postage) is credited to your account for future purchases.

Ahhhh, autumn! I'm dreaming of autumn @Judystilldreamsofhorses The thought of crisp air and fog, and being chilly and needing to cover with a blanket is all I've been thinking about these past few days.

I was really looking forward to a thunderstorm today too @Chevyimpala67, and the earthy smell of petrichor, but there's been no rain here either. And the humidity is awful. It's making it feel hotter than yesterday! Ditto everything being dead and brown - it looks like some bizarre science fiction experiment is being conducted outside the windows and is quite depressing to be honest.

It looks like I will have to cut almost all chocolate from my diet, because it seems to be making my migraines worse. I love chocolate. 😭😭😭

That's terrible about Timeless! I got to smell it at a friend's house a few months ago and really liked it. A true classic. Maybe they'll bring it back - I'm sure it was discontinued a while back, then reinstated after an outcry.

@ThreeImaginaryBoys I really like Guerlain Insolence and its riotous powderiness. I just wish there wasn't this weird waxy, almost oily note about halfway through on me. The dry down is gorgeous though.

A strange question for any other thread but does anyone here have a good perfume podcast they can recommend? I have a tendency to wake up on the middle of the night with anxiety and usually listen to podcasts to help me get back to sleep. Something not too American and shouty obviously. I have a good collection of gardening and food podcasts but haven't found a good fragrance one.

@chilliesandspices I’ve got the Escentual almond trial box too. I know they have just started the daily wears, but I tried them all out a week or so ago and D is my favourite so far. Definitely need to give some of the others another outing though.

Next month the note for the trial box is vanilla, so I will no doubt be ordering that one too 🙂

I did the bloom perfumery monthly subscription last year.

It didn't blow me away tbh. Some nice scents but nothing FB worthy.

Also, the sample bottles had some dodgy sprayers which was annoying.

I'm looking forward to trying EL desert Eden 🏜
