It really is nice to see them together.

I think it’s highly unlikely to be a full reconciliation in the space of a day...these things take time.

But I wouldn’t necessarily call it PR - it was simply the right thing to do in order to show full respect to the Queen and to reflect the importance of family.

KillingMeDeftly · 10/09/2022 18:32

Oh that is nice to see the four of them together again. It's so sad that things went the way they did - they could've all been a real force, an "awesome foursome" if you must, for good but it was not to be.

Eaumyword · 10/09/2022 18:36

How lovely to have lots of educational representation on this thread - I'm only a lowly school sec these days though.
That wedding dress is a bold look. I'm disappointed at them not taking the opportunity to give us high octane wedding glamour!
I agree @NiqueNique. From a fashion perspective, both women looked very beautiful and elegant in their black dresses.

Maria Laura of Belgium. The shoes are so retro. The dress Gucci.

NiqueNique · 10/09/2022 18:41

@Eaumyword yes, I think everyone has looked exactly right, as far as I can remember from what I’ve seen so far. Except I wasn’t sure that Beatrice’s shoes were appropriate for Church and so soon after HM death. But that’s only a little niggle I suppose.

hopeishere · 10/09/2022 18:43

Lovely to see them again. Meghan's dress was gorgeous!! That shape is perfect on her.

I'd love to see a vigil of the princesses as well as the princes!

hopeishere · 10/09/2022 18:45

I do wonder if Liz Truss has had to do a massive shop - I'm sure she has a few black dresses but not enough for the next few days.

NiqueNique · 10/09/2022 18:47

Yes rather a baptism of fire for our new PM in her first few days on the job!

justasking111 · 10/09/2022 18:38

I love the Vivienne Westwood she wore for the religious ceremony.

I remember the Queen Mother's grandsons standing vigil all night over her coffin but that was 20 years ago and none of them are getting any younger! Maybe HMQ's grandchildren will do it instead.

frugalkitty · 10/09/2022 19:08

I'm glad they've declared a bank holiday for the funeral, I really want to watch it. It's quite something being part of this history in the making.

I think it’s just low-key for the civil ceremony and they’ll be high glam for the church service later today.

No such thing as a lowly school sec!

I am always so very grateful to you history experts on this thread - I have learned a huge amount over the last few years. Thank you.

It feels inappropriate to comment on what people are wearing but I thought all of the royals today looked very elegant. I also hope that this might be the start of a reconciliation between the Wales and the Sussexes and that they can find peace in supporting each other. Even DH commented on how good King Charles looked in his morning suit at the proclamation.

Maireas · 10/09/2022 19:48

Yes, everyone looked very smart and appropriate.

So many wonderful tributes to HM.

Theresa May and the cheese...

The King’s address, the Prince of Wales’ statement released today, the letters and statements of condolences from other Royal Households and dignitaries. All so full of admiration and respect.

And the stories from ordinary people, too.

A life well lived.

chesterelly1 · 10/09/2022 20:17

I am very close to the route from Balmoral to Edinburgh. Thinking I should make a point of going to watch the procession pass.

SenecaFallsRedux · 10/09/2022 20:25

What people are wearing is all part of the ceremony and ritual, and yes, I think everyone has looked elegant and appropriate.

It was so nice to see William and Catherine and Harry and Meghan together. It's a lovely tribute to the Queen.

KillingMeDeftly · 10/09/2022 20:32

@Blondbombsite There were pictures of the church service at the link @justasking111 posted.

I wonder if the Belgian royals feel a bit awkward at Delphine showing up for everything?

paradyning · 10/09/2022 20:35

That Vivienne Westwood is absolutely stunning. And the veil. Beautiful. She has a perfect bun too.

Loved Cams' lace dress. And wry smile when Charles had a fight with the inkwell.

Kate and Megs looks beautiful. But all that walking in the spike heels. I am in awe.

Lady Louise looked lovely too.

BeaLola · 10/09/2022 20:50

I know I have said it before but how do they all walk with no mishaps ever (even on uneven ground) in such spindly high heels ? I'm in awe - there must be a special HRH course /Princess course in advance

Serenster · 10/09/2022 21:00

Meanwhile in Denmark it is Queen Margrethe’s celebration of her 50th year as Queen. Lovely Daisy sent the most affectionate letter of condolence to King Charles, and then drastically scaled back her own festivities as a mark of respect to her distant cousin and close friend Elizabeth.

There was a gala theatre concert this evening though and it started with a minute’s silence. Here’s the Queen leading that, and then Mary and Frederik and their two oldest children arriving.

The more you wear them the easier it becomes - you get used to it and it’s just like wearing any other shoes.

I used to wear very high heels like that and walking in them became second nature really.

I did almost fall down a glass staircase once at work but that wasn’t directly due to my shoes!

susiebluebell · 10/09/2022 21:02

That minute's silence has given me goosebumps @Serenster Queens honouring Queens. Very respectful to scale back her own celebration too.

Maireas · 10/09/2022 21:03

Aw, how lovely of Daisy. She's so kind.
