Brilliant tone from the King.
Glad about the Harry and Meghan mention.
Surprised he has conferred the PoW title immediately but he has been it for nearly 60 years and William might have 20.
Loved the walkabout as they arrived at Buck House.
I hope he does good things

He’s made mistakes has our King but I will never forget the kindness he showed my parents and then me when my 29 year old sister died of cancer - about 2 days after meeting him (under the spotlight). I still have photos of the stunning flowers he had hand delivered to my house and the original of the beautiful letter he hand wrote me - giving me some happiness when all around me turned black.

I think Kate will make a beautiful and serene Princess of Wales and Charles will be a good King. Long live the King!

I have managed to stay dry-eyed so far. But "And let flights of angels sing thee to thy rest," that quotation from Hamlet gets me every time. And just now with God Save the King. I'm a mess.

Me too Seneca. That Hamlet quote just about finished me off.

How lovely. I've heard similar stories of his genuine kindness. Sorry for your loss 💐

Does Camilla normally wear brooches? She was wearing a little knot one today which I thought was lovely given Queen Elizabeth’s love of brooches.

I'm watching the bbc doc now and oh my, the glamour and jewels of her early years as Queen! As we were saying the other week, chances that we'll see all that bling again are slim to none. Sad to think of all those tiaras being kept in a vault somewhere but I just don't think there are as many grand occasions as there used to be.

meateatingveggie · 09/09/2022 21:46

I wonder what will happen to her jewellery collection. I imagine she will have specified where some goes, and some belongs to the crown, but there is so much of it.

As other have said, it seems unlikely we will see some of it. Such a shame.

I think it's @AdaColeman who is generally very good on brooches. Hopefully she can identify the one Camilla wore today.

Her personal collection is amazing but reading today because of the provenance it's worth millions so say she gave her grand daughters and great grand daughters pieces they'd have to pay so much inheritance tax. Which is why Princess Margaret's pieces were sold.

I'm hoping to see it being loaned out to the women of the family.

So will William & Catherine use Wales as their surname now? Well you know when they need one as I know Catherine has used Mrs C Cambridge when 'off duty'
The children are just known as George, Charlotte & Louis Cambridge at school & also in their family's social circle.

I wonder if Charles & Camilla are going down the Dutch route, Britain's version of Max & Wax.
Similar to modelling the family along the Nordic RFs lines?

DD wants to go & see HMQ laying in state when she arrives back here.

I do feel for Angela Kelly as she's lost her best friend as well as her employer & Queen.
I've always had this rather daft image of HMQ & Angela as the posh version of Thelma & Louise, proper ride or dies.
I think Angela will be very discreet & never do a Paul Burrell if or when she does a memoir.

I still can't quite get my head around HMQ. We were all discussing her during our break at my drama group's panto rehearsal.
Someone commented on HMQ's passing on like waking up one morning & discovering that overnight Cornwall, Devon & Somerset had been washed away & didn't exist anymore.
Totally unimaginable & very surreal.
We all agreed.

I did think the King's morning suit at the Proclamation was beautiful.

Maireas · 10/09/2022 12:42

Very interesting. Being a History teacher I'm loving all the details!
I've just been teaching about the later Tudor Accession Councils!

I did some quick research about Camilla's knot brooch, and couldn't find anything other than the knot usually symbolizes unity. Very appropriate.

@Maireas maybe you have mentioned it before, but I didn't know you are a history teacher. In my mind, a most honored profession. History teachers certainly have enriched my life immeasurably. Flowers

Maireas · 10/09/2022 13:07

Thank you so much, Seneca!
I am lucky to teach a subject that is so rich and varied, and that so many young people enjoy. My new yr7s are fantastic, and I have a lovely group of yr13s, who very much enjoy The Later Tudors. I am fortunate.

Maireas I'm a history teacher too!

There's a fab article in the Mail about the Queen's jewellery but I don't know how to link. Lots of photos.

Maireas · 10/09/2022 13:34

Yay, for the history teachers! It's so heartening to hear that young people are interested in history.

In a more upbeat post we have a royal wedding today! Princess Maria Laura of Belgium had a civil ceremony this morning. I’m afraid I don’t know much about the couple but they look very happy.

No photos that I can find but I thought the Queen Consort looked amazing at the ceremony this morning; the dress looked very plain until she started walking and then it was evident that there was a lovely lace overlay.

Must have been an incredibly difficult occasion to dress for.

That's quite a sixties vibe, all she needs is a pair of white go-go boots!

Really pleased to see William, Kate, Harry and Meghan at Windsor together. I hope this is some sort of reconciliation and not just PR.
