I think Angela Kelly did a fantastic job as stylist to the late Queen.
Stewart Parvin was also involved.
In the latter part of her life her "public" outfits were just perfect.

susiebluebell · 09/09/2022 12:44

I agree @LadyEloise1 She really found her stride with that instantly recognisable Queen style. That's another thing I don't think we'll see again.

I'm sure they won't anyway, but I'm crossing my fingers Angela Kelly and HMQ's other close associates retire gracefully and don't sell her out. That would cheapen it all horrifically.

Maireas · 09/09/2022 16:40

Angela Kelly and Stewart Parvin did excellent work.

@susiebluebell
I agree, I hope they don't do a Burrell.
That man, imo, lets himselfand Diana down badly. Sad

I think I'm really getting on the nerves of everyone in my family, as I can't help telling them the names of all of HM's tiaras as we watch the TV retrospectives. Grin

Maireas · 09/09/2022 17:44

@MotherofPearl 😊😊 nice one!

Same for me, except I'm silently correcting the American commentators who are getting minor facts wrong about history and the RF. I might have to start emailing.

Thanks, but I imagine it would be a lot harder than it is sitting here in my easy chair.

I think you'd manage 👍

Are you watching the King's address? He's officially announced that William will be Prince of Wales. I think it's a very moving address.

SenecaFallsRedux · 09/09/2022 18:09

Yes. New Prince of Wales

Gooseysgirl · 09/09/2022 18:09

I'm in bits 😢

SenecaFallsRedux · 09/09/2022 18:10

Very moving speech.

Serenster · 09/09/2022 18:19

Gosh, Charles was very emotional wasn’t he? It was very moving, particularly ending with the lovely quote from Hamlet. (I was surprised at the quick announcement that William is appointed Prince of Wales - I thought he’d wait til his birthday in November or so).

Maireas · 09/09/2022 18:21

I think he comes across as a very kind and generous man.

I was a bit surprised by this too.

I thought they might want to avoid having a new Princess of Wales at the same time as any possible conflict about Camilla's role or title.

They can appoint a Prince of Wales at anytime (for example when they need a good news story) or could even wait for George to be heir given that Charles' reign is unlikely to be long.

iknowimcoming · 09/09/2022 18:28

Aside from their grief the extra responsibilities must be very daunting for William and Catherine with such young children. Agree the address was very moving, glad he mentioned Harry and Meghan too, hopefully they can put aside their differences and support one another through this.

Maireas · 09/09/2022 18:28

It doesn't conflict with Camilla's title as Queen Consort?
I think it's a good idea for them to be the Prince and Princess of Wales.

KillingMeDeftly · 09/09/2022 18:34

That was a nice speech from Prince Charles. And if Camilla's official title is to be Queen Consort then that's a first. All her predecessors were just "The Queen"!

KillingMeDeftly · 09/09/2022 18:34

No, the King!! How long will it take us to get used to calling him that??

Maireas · 09/09/2022 18:40

Plus every time they say "The Prince of Wales" I'm going to imagine Charles, not William!

OP posts:
Serenster · 09/09/2022 18:50

I was thinking wryly of William and Kate, moving to a smaller house in Windsor’s grounds, and with their three children all now at school probably hoping to enjoy a couple of years of what we’d recognise as a more normal life, no-longer needing a live-in nanny and housekeeper etc - and they had all of two weeks! Oh well, such is their life…

SenecaFallsRedux · 09/09/2022 18:50

I think it time it may become simply The Queen. But right now they need to distinguish between the late Queen and Camilla. And everyone is still referring to Elizabeth as The Queen.

SenecaFallsRedux · 09/09/2022 19:08

I have managed to stay dry-eyed so far. But "And let flights of angels sing thee to thy rest," that quotation from Hamlet gets me every time. And just now with God Save the King. I'm a mess.
