We'll toast Elizabeth - resilient, modest, dutiful - and stylish! -to the end. 🥃

Hear, hear.

The Queen sitting all alone at Prince Philip’s funeral was solemn duty personified. A powerful image of the woman who took her faith, her duty and her solemn oath seriously and performed it to the end.

Thank you @TracyBeakerSoYeah, that's a lovely family memento.

Thanks for sharing that image Tracy; that's really touching.

This has made me so much sadder than I ever imagined. If there was ever a role model for grace, dignity, duty, elegance with a cheeky wee sense of humour, she was it. The Paddington sketch had me in tears at the Jubilee. Just the sense that we’d never see her like again.

God bless.

Maireas · 08/09/2022 20:58

The Jubilee was her swansong, wasn't it?

Phillip came to me today,
and said it was time to go.
I looked at him and smiled,
as i whispered that "I know"

I then turned and looked behind me,
and seen I was asleep.
All my Family were around me,
and I could hear them weep.

I gently touched each shoulder,
with Phillip by my side.
Then I turned away and walked,
with My Angel guide.

Phillip held my hand,
as he lead the way,
to a world where King's and Queens,
are Monarch's every day.

I was given a crown to wear
or a Halo known by some.
The difference is up here,
they are worn by everyone.

I felt a sense of peace,
my reign had seen its end.
70 years I had served my Country,
as the peoples friend.

Thank you for the years,
for all your time and love.
Now I am one of two again,
in our Palace up above.

If there is a little silver lining in this she will have known at the Jubilee she was loved and respected. By many, many people. She did her very best and then some.

and that is all we can ever ask of anyone.

Oh dear

PolkadotsAndMoonbeams · 08/09/2022 21:28

I'm just dropping in (sporadic visitor to these threads!) to say how sorry I am she's gone. I know it shouldn't be that surprising at 96 but you think she'll go on for ever.

Watching the news I've been thinking how nice she always looked, all the different colours, and lovely brooches on coats.

BeaLola · 08/09/2022 21:33

God Bless Elizabeth the Great

Thank you for your immense service, grace, kindness and humour. May you rest peacefully with your beloved Philip and know how loved you were.

Thank you Ma'am.

God Save The King

Just saw this on Instagram and in the spirit of our threads thought I'd post here. I'm sure we've seen this before but here it is, our Queen in a rainbow of colour

RIP QEII but whoever wrote that poem should be sent to the Tower! Dreadful mawkish stuff and they can't even spell Philip's name correctly.

FitYeDaeinYeMadRadge · 08/09/2022 21:50

@PolkadotsAndMoonbeams

I’m watching too. Beautiful bright and bold colours. she seemed to suit all colours and fabrics. Lovely tailoring, some very fancy buttons, and yes, wonderful brooches. Gorgeous hats too. My granny would have said she always looks neat and tidy.

I like a brooch and have a few (not as fancy) but not sure just how to wear them. I pin them to scarves but maybe I should just go for it.

FitYeDaeinYeMadRadge · 08/09/2022 21:53

@frugalkitty

in the time it took me to type my last post, you summed it up in a picture for me. Thank you, that’s lovely 😊

I think that's from Sali Hughes' Rainbow Queen book? The brightly-coloured suits really were HMQ's uniform in recent years.

I feel like she went from glamorous young woman to middle-aged matron almost overnight and then was in a bit of a style wasteland for many years until the advent of Angela Kelly.

RomainingCalm · 08/09/2022 22:02

Such a very sad day.

I posted this picture during the Jubilee celebrations and it's one of my favourites.

Absolutely. Her family were incredibly lucky to have her in their lives for so long

justasking111 · 08/09/2022 22:45

Looking at the rainbow picture I was reminded of Angela Kelly and all the people who worked around the queen who must feel bereft tonight.

StartupRepair · 09/09/2022 03:58

What a sad day. The world feels a bit different, somehow. My 91 year old mother is really feeling it.

susiebluebell · 09/09/2022 08:41

I happened to see the breaking of the first announcement about her health at lunchtime as I was watching Politics Live while feeding the baby. After that, the news stayed on all afternoon, I couldn't switch it off. I noticed how it gradually got more serious, the presenters changed into black ties etc., and then I was about to switch the telly off for dinner when suddenly they showed the flag being lowered to half mast and Huw Edwards tearfully announcing HMQ's death.

I'm not sure how to feel yet actually! I thought I'd be in pieces but I'm not. It's very sad, especially for the family, and I'll miss her presence. But it also feels like a tectonic shift as someone said on the news. I might be in a minority but I'm really looking forward to seeing what Charles is like as King.

Rest in peace your Majesty!
