That's a beautiful dress @paradyning
Interesting that they had both a Roman Catholic and an Orthodox ceremony. Bit controversial!

It is a beautiful dress.
Was it a love match or arranged marriage ?

KillingMeDeftly · 08/08/2022 20:25

I thought semi-arranged? Not sure poor Sofia ever found much happiness with JC.

Leti and daughters have stepped out with legs out in Zara!

Legs and a mahogany wash

Well, Leti's going for the mahogany look this summer. I feel like it's 1976.
Not keen on the dress.
She does have fantastic legs though.

Also. They love those espadrilles!
I think both Sofias look good.

They all look fabulous. I like that pink on Leti and god knows she's got the figure for it. It's maybe a touch short, but she looks great.
Still adjusting my phone screen at her tan - she definitely went for the 'Ross from Friends quadruple spray tan'!

@Eaumyword but did she count Mississippily?

I like the Zara dresses and espadrilles, but it’s a bit overload there. Very tanned and shiny, I prefer a more subtle look personally 😬

I'd kill for their legs, but it looks very odd all four of them with virtually identical shoes.

Yes, semi-arranged, and politically expedient for Juan Carlos, and the bride’s parents who allegedly wanted to shore up their teetering throne by marriages across the European royal families. So, Constantine ended up married to Princess Anne-Marie of Denmark (that was definitely a love match though). Sofia’s sister, Princess Irene, was rumoured to be the favoured bride for (then) Prince Harald of Norway, but obviously history and Harald took a different path!

Apparently they had to get clearance from the Pope for the Greek Orthodox Sofia to marry Catholic Juan Carlos, and that’s how they ended up with the double religious ceremonies.

I don't think Irene ever married, did she?

Report
Serenster · 09/08/2022 17:02

No, she didn’t - I think she now lives in Madrid to be near Sofia?

Evidently, Princess Alexandra of Kent was also in the running as a possible bride for Harald, but both she and Harald had other ideas. I'm sure her mother, Princess Marina, would have preferred the future king of Norway to the younger son of an Earl.

Irene joined Leti and family in Mallorca last week. I think she's younger than Queen Sofia but looks much frailer and older. Perhaps she hasn't been well.

Nice maxi dresses on Leti and the girls. Their love affair with espadrilles continues!

Queen Sofia certainly likes the matching trousers and top in a jolly print!

Is there a Spanish RF what's app group: 'Hola girls! Long print (or short Zara) dresses tonight please. No espadrilles for me this evening as feet are killing me but you can go ahead'. 😊

Good point about the very regal Princess Marina, Seneca! She was quite horrified that Edward wanted to marry Katharine Worsley (family nor nearly grand enough) and she did her utmost to prevent the union!
I respect the DoK for standing up to his formidable mother and going ahead, even though the union has not been without it's troubles, he has remained steadfast.

Was Marina still alive when Prince Michael got married? Perhaps Marie-Christine would've been grand enough for her!

Report
Maireas · 10/08/2022 10:35

No, she died before Michael wed the formidable Baroness. Marie Christine may have been more to Marina's liking, being a European aristocrat, even from a cadet branch. Perhaps more to her taste than Miss Worsley.

To my knowledge she died in 1968 and they married in 1978.

Who could not like and love the beautiful and serene and elegant Katherine Worsley…I had no idea Marina didn’t approve of the match.

Report
Maireas · 10/08/2022 17:53

I don't think it was anything personal, I just think Marina wanted him to marry a royal!

Totally agree. The DoK has always been my favourite Royal. She seems a lovely person but sadly has struggled with her mental health
