As in looks you've worn in recent years that now look wrong or frumpy? (no Mumsnet debate on the word frumpy please!)

I do like those strappy block heeled sandals. They are so late 90s 🥰 and comfortable.
I work some block heeled mules to death. If I'm wearing a heel, they have to be comfortable.

According to my dd17 heels are for old women and hookers.

I can’t actually imagine many youngsters under the age of 30 wearing ‘heels’ so yes they do look very dated. Embarrassing even.

Interestingly I went 'out out' in a large City recently and the majority of the young women were dressed in shirt skirts, cropped tops and high heels . I was actually surprised to see this given my son's female friends (early 20s) seem to live in jeans , jogging bottoms and trainers .

Sorry, I may have derailed a bit, but calling women "hookers" raises my hackles.

I agree, deriding other women is hateful.
Comments on this thread about women are dreadful.

Can women not just wear what they like?
Without being called hookers/mutton dressed as lamb/frumpy

And now we know why.

Good job, Mum. You must be very proud.

Greenshed · 02/07/2022 17:34

Well I think that anything goes, really, and you can wear pretty much what you like. It’s all down to personal preference, anyway. I suppose the extremes of any fashion can look quite ridiculous and there are certainly items of fashion that I wouldn’t choose to wear, but when it comes to staples such as cardigans and footwear, then if you like the look, wear it - much better than it going to landfill because “someone” (whoever that elusive “someone” is), decides what’s in or out of fashion for a particular season or three. 😀

BruceWaynettaSlob · 02/07/2022 17:44

There's multiple different threads going on here.
Some people are describing what is out of fashion.
Some are saying what they think is frumpy.
Some are saying things they just personally don't like.
And some dicks are just contributing batshittery that isn't even about clothes.

St Laurent is making huge platforms now

I'm wearing a pair at this very moment and may even wear them out to dinner in central London this evening. I shall eagerly await gasps of horror.

Why would her opinion count for anything?

hatchyu · 02/07/2022 18:05

@Lily073 the shame! the embarrassment! 😆

Better not go to The Savoy! 😊

Lily073 · 02/07/2022 18:10

Yes, the utter shame. At last I'll feel intimidating with my added height. We'll probably be banned from every venue. 😂I'll report back....

For being "old" or for being a "hooker"?
Remember you must be one or the other to wear heels 😂😂😂

Lily073 · 02/07/2022 18:40

@Maireas 😂I'll go with the former.

MistyRock · 02/07/2022 18:45

I've actually got my eye on some wooden platform style sandals, very 70s but also early 00s. The leather straps are pistachio green! Wear would I wear them? And would people think I'm a hooker? 😂

MistyRock · 02/07/2022 18:46

A cross between a wedge and a platform. I should say.

ChinBristles · 02/07/2022 18:50

My dad always used to say that women that wore anklets were hookers.

I don't really think that was worth sharing.

Your dad sounds like a good man...

ChinBristles · 02/07/2022 19:13

Yeah, he gave me an absolute complex about my weight and the size of my nose as well.

I think you're on the wrong thread.
Nuggets of misogynistic crap must be in the chat section.

ChinBristles · 02/07/2022 19:14

It was just that conversation upthread about only hookers wearing high heels (!) that made me think of his comment.

ChinBristles · 02/07/2022 19:15

I didn't say I agreed with his comment! It's just one of many corkers he (and his own father) used to come out with.

@Blossomtoes

You often find out later in life about your feet's faux pas😀

Mine are still as good now as when I first walked on them 68 years ago. No corns, bunions or fallen arches here. Although the blue polish could do with renewing.
