I think they thought that from a distance the black would look great against the green especially considering the black trim on the hat, but they didn’t take into account that it would look very odd in almost the centre of the queens head (rather like a target as pp alluded to) and also plopped right up against the knotted embellishment. Without the knot it would have been fine - it would have sat in a different spot so it wouldn’t have looked like a black blob in the middle of the queen’s head, and it would have looked fine sitting on the green band.

peridito · 06/06/2022 15:26

@NiqueNique ah ,thank you .I can see it now -goes right through the hat and exits below the bow !
Probably looked less out of place in the flesh .

NiqueNique · 06/06/2022 15:26

It might be because the weather wasn’t great on the night, actually! Maybe they decided at the last minute to add a pin. Although I would think at least one pin would always be included as a matter of course just to be on the safe side...

Serenster · 06/06/2022 15:33

I too hadn’t spotted the black trim on the hat (here’s a screen grab) at all - unsurprisingly, since although the Queen is short, she was also several metres up on a balcony! - and thought the pin looked very odd indeed. Even with the trim it looks a little odd - I think the coat would also have needed some black element to tie them together. Maybe this was the outfit she was going to wear to one of the other events, had she been able to make them.

NiqueNique · 06/06/2022 15:34

Maybe it was planned all along. Just slightly unfortunate position. Would have looked better slightly further down.

Serenster · 06/06/2022 15:35

Oh, and she has two hat pins holding it on as well - they are the green bumps you can see on each side of the cording wrapped around the hat.

NiqueNique · 06/06/2022 15:38

Yes I just noticed those! I guess it was just supposed to be another element to the trim. Would have been much better had it sat lower down and further to the right (the Queen’s left).

Ah well.

peridito · 06/06/2022 17:25

Interesting ,the hat must have been well and truly anchored .Anxiety about gusts of wind ? Queen wanting to feel that it was absolutely secure ?She must have had experiences in the past and my guess is that it was her request for extra anchorage .

sigh ..I must get out more .

justasking111 · 06/06/2022 18:19

So sweet and funny

Louis was hilarious although I didn't think any child had actually thumbed their nose at their mother since about 1945!

NiqueNique · 06/06/2022 18:26

sigh ..I must get out more.

Grin I had that thought earlier too!

@justasking111 yes that is sweet!

Having just had a closer look at Kate’s dress from the final evening, I must say she really did well! Beautiful dress, beautiful colour on her and not too fussy or stiff. I think it was an excellent choice.

gluenotsoup · 06/06/2022 19:07

I thought this was a touching image. From a style point of view they could all have been on the balcony this weekend, there’s something to be said for the timeless dressing!

Well dammit, glue, I thought I'd got all my feels under control.

paradyning · 06/06/2022 19:32

Gosh she really has visibly aged substantially since philip/covid.

I've just realised that suit and hat are platinum in colour!

Hi @eggandonion I recognise you from Craicnet Smile

My husband thinks I am nuts for spending my actual bank holiday catching up on the Jubilee 😂. I heard it said on the radio that the most popular political leader in Ireland right now is The Queen 👑

Is it? I thought pale blue. She looked like Wedgewood china! And just as enduring...

She really has become so much more frail. And Charles looks so much older. But she is mid-nineties and he mid-seventies. They are not young. Except Camilla. Never ages 😁

KillingMeDeftly · 06/06/2022 19:51

@CliffsofMohair I thought the same about Camilla! She's never been considered conventionally attractive but she's barely changed since the 90s.

Charles looks a lot older/frailer than HMQ and the DoE did in their early 70s.

KillingMeDeftly · 06/06/2022 19:54

I wonder if we'll see another jubilee in our lifetime? I doubt Charles will make it to a silver. William might, I suppose. But barring a tragic accident, I think we will have a series of OAP monarchs for the foreseeable future.

Was this part of the jubilee

KillingMeDeftly · 06/06/2022 20:17

I doubt it, it's probably just some random on Instagram!

NiqueNique · 06/06/2022 20:18

The DM is calling HM’s black hat pin a mourning pin, so now I feel bad for making such a fuss about it...
