Is it not a Bank Holiday in the UK today ?

Is it not a Bank Holiday in the UK today ?

No, we had them Thurs and Fri

Ok thank you @Maireas

Toddlerteaplease · 06/06/2022 10:45

How on earth does Kate manage to walk in those really high heels. I wouldn't be able to stand up, let alone take steps!

Maireas · 06/06/2022 10:57

@Toddlerteaplease - an enduring mystery. She's not even daunted by cobbles! (See also Letizia and CPM etc)

These four days were better than I anticipated - so well planned an orchestrated, so much fun, and so many poignant moments.

That strange black blob on Her Maj's green hat is actually a pom-pom! It doesn't look so out of place when you see the hat from a different angle, as there is also black braid around the brim of the hat.

Usually Rachel Trevor-Morgan's hats are exquisite, but she hasn't quite pulled it off with that green hat.

What a clever idea to have a hologram of the young Queen in the window of the gold state coach!

LadyEloise1 · 06/06/2022 11:49

Thank you for clearing that mystery up @AdaColeman Smile
Would you have a photo of it from a different perspective please ?
The hat didn't quite hit the target. Sorry I couldn't resist.

I agree the hologram was amazing.
Actually the whole spectacle was awesome.

NiqueNique · 06/06/2022 11:55

Oh @paradyning i see you’d also said a hat pin (missed that the first time around) which was the obvious conclusion tbf. I’ve got to say even with black trim to match I think that is an awfully clumsy design. Why on earth have a Pom Pom sitting right on top of another trim with another completely different embellishment like that?? No, not impressed with that at all and I think it’s a real shame that for the final Jubilee appearance by the Queen, everything wasn’t just so.

I’ll reserve final judgement until I have had a better look at the hat in its entirety.

NiqueNique · 06/06/2022 12:10

Walking in very high heels is easy once you’ve got used to it - the royal women wear them a lot so it’s just like walking normally to them.

gluenotsoup · 06/06/2022 12:27

Once upon a time I was able to walk in any heel, on any surface every bit as elegantly as Kate. The trick is just to walk normally, heel first, not toe first or flat footed as you often see, but it helps to have strong dancers ankles and good posture to begin with, in my opinion. These days, heels are a huge rarity and I’m usually in boots or flats thanks to the dd’s, work and shoving a wheelchair around. I’d doesn’t take long to pick it back up when needed though. I think. 😬😂

NiqueNique · 06/06/2022 12:47

Yes I’ve had very high heels in my day-to-day life (quite a few moons ago now) Don’t wear them anymore though - isn’t worth it for me; I’ve got 6 years on Kate and since I’m not a duchess I’d rather be comfortable. I can still happily do 8-9 cm when needed but won’t even try anything over that as I’ve likely lost my skills.

Toddlerteaplease · 06/06/2022 12:57

I also wondered what the black blob was. Must admit I found the hologram a bit creepy for some reason!

bare · 06/06/2022 13:59

Yes, it's a massive beaded hat pin!

Delurked to post this, but I love this thread - thanks

Ohhh so we were right all along?

Not the best choice IMO, really messed up the aesthetic of the hat! Maybe it’s HM’s favourite pin...

NiqueNique · 06/06/2022 14:10

I feel really bad criticising it! Without the knot on the band it would have been absolutely fine and would have looked rather striking.

dolphinsarentcommon · 06/06/2022 14:10

That's a hell of a hat pin. Could it be concealing something? I can't think what, it being HM.

Maybe it was a gift she's thoughtfully wearing?

NiqueNique · 06/06/2022 14:26

I actually really like it! Nothing wrong with it in and of itself - it could possibly have looked better in person but just really doesn’t work on photos.

KillingMeDeftly · 06/06/2022 14:26

Kate is chauffeured everywhere so of course it's easy for her to wear high heels. No standing at the bus stop in the rain or on a crowded tube for her!

susiebluebell · 06/06/2022 14:40

No, I really don't get the hat pin either. Totally wrong position, practically on top of the knotting on the hat. HOWEVER I actually didn't notice it until others pointed it out - I think I was distracted by the lovely green and by how cute she was!

Serenster · 06/06/2022 15:05

Kate is chauffeured everywhere so of course it's easy for her to wear high heels. No standing at the bus stop in the rain or on a crowded tube for her!

This is also why she (and the other royal ladies) get to wear lovely pale coats and dresses. I look at them wistfully, but know there is no point in me purchasing anything similar!

peridito · 06/06/2022 15:15

I googled and was told Pom Pom .How do we know it's a hat pin ?

NiqueNique · 06/06/2022 15:19

@peridito if you look at photos you can quite clearly see the pin. This is a good example of how google can lie! But of course these days photographic evidence can also lie...

However on balance (even taking into account that photos can lie as easily as google can) I’m satisfied that it’s a pin - a Pom Pom makes absolutely no sense in design terms.

peridito · 06/06/2022 15:20

There's a clip here where the Queen dips her head coming out on to the balcony .The black trim on the hat is visible.
