On the Norwegian RF front, I spent a chunk of time in Northern Norway last autumn. I knew they often holidayed on the royal yacht up there, fabulous scenery, hiking, midnight sun etc. I'd heard the story of my friend's daughter being invited onto the royal yacht many many years ago in a group of children.

We were chatting one day and I said I thought Kong Harald seemed like a good man. My friend said, oh yes and the Queen, the children are very nice too, I was this close to them in the church. Me: what, not the church here in Borg??!! Friend: yes, and the other royals from Europe too. Me: So was Queen Margrethe there??! Friend: yes, and Fredrik and the other one. Me: Mary? Friend: no no before her ... Joachim, and Victoria, she's so beautiful, and Carl Philip, Madeleine... and the Spanish ones.

She couldn't remember why they were there so I did a bit of googling that evening and came up with the links below. I showed her the next day and she said yes that was it, pointing out some locals in the pictures. She recalled she sat behind Filipe in the church.

So it looks like there were 5 monarchs plus loads of their successors there, it's a really off the beaten track sort of place! But maybe not so remote as I thought, she then said that last summer her eldest daughter was in the very small local shop and in walked CP Haakon and family. "She was very surprised." I expect they had run out of chocolate, that's why I go there 🙂

Lovely reminiscences, @Brunost !

HMQ was looking gorge in Scotland today. Classic Queen silhouette in very pale blue (what's that fabric called again?) and looking really happy to be there.

Sophie Wessex also hit the mark, I thought, both with colour and cut. Looove the contrast of the greens in the dress, hat and bouquet.

I wonder if HMQ will get to Balmoral this year? Did she make it last year?

chesterelly1 · 27/06/2022 16:38

I know she favours bright colours to stand out but I much prefer pastels tones for the Queen. That blue suits her beautifully.
There is an exhibition of some of her outfits from her Jubilees at Holyrood. Im going to make a point of going, I can't imagine any of the DC will want to chum me so it'll be some nice respite during the school hols.

NiqueNique · 27/06/2022 17:19

@Brunost I guess you sampled the cheese whilst there! I haven’t had brunost in years...

Eaumyword · 27/06/2022 18:14

HMQ looks fab - nice to see her looking so sprightly.
I like Sophie's dress and hat, but personally feel the hat colour jars slightly.

LadyEloise1 · 27/06/2022 18:15

The Queen does look lovely in the pale blue. You can almost smell the sweet pea that are on her hat. What a beautiful wee bouquet.
Is the fabric moygashel @susiebluebell ** ?

eggandonion · 27/06/2022 18:43

Im sure there are reasons why it can't happen in her lifetime, and she is the Duchess of Edinburgh...but I wish his mum would make Edward Duke of Edinburgh in case Charles doesn't. The Wessex family seems really supportive and kind. Id like them to keep the Wessex title too, in honour of Thomas Hardy. Because I had to read his books in school.

Maireas · 27/06/2022 18:44

I agree with you, @eggandonion - it would be a nice thing to do.

Just looked it up. Could be, although what Queenie's wearing looks more 'lumpy'. I know I've seen it before. Is it a type of linen?

FawnDrench · 27/06/2022 19:50

According to "Bazaar" - HM wore a "pale blue tweed coat over a floral white, blue, and purple dress, and accessorized with a matching pale blue hat with a bright blue flower appliqué, and her classic layered pearl necklace and pearl earrings."

LadyEloise1 · 27/06/2022 20:28

Could the fabric be slubbed silk ?

NiqueNique · 27/06/2022 20:36

It’s certainly looks much more like silk than tweed.

NiqueNique · 27/06/2022 20:44

Maxima paints the town red! ❤️

Actually on closer inspection it could well be tweed.

Nobody expects the Maxíma Inquisition!

@KillingMeDeftly Grin Grin

I really love it though. Max gets it right much more often than she gets it wrong no matter how extra she goes!

KillingMeDeftly · 27/06/2022 21:24

This white dress is great on her, and I love the Belvedere with all the Klimt pieces.

CliffsofMohair · 27/06/2022 21:31

Max bringing the glam!

Eaumyword · 27/06/2022 22:00

Max looks glorious in both the red and the white dresses - the glamour is back!🥰

MotherofPearl · 27/06/2022 22:17

Max looks sensational in that white dress!

The reason she can't do it is that there already is a Duke of Edinburgh. Prince Charles holds the title by virtue of the Letters Patent creating his father Duke of Edinburgh. When Charles becomes king, the title merges with the Crown and it is available to be granted again, by Charles.

And the Queen is the Dowager Duchess of Edinburgh. Camilla is the Duchess of Edinburgh.

susiebluebell · 27/06/2022 22:57

@LadyEloise1 and @NiqueNique either of you could be right re tweed or slubbed silk! All I know is, I recognise it but can't remember the name for the life of me!

Agree that Maxima looks a million dollars in the white and the red!

eggandonion · 27/06/2022 23:16

Well her majesty should stamp her foot and demand Edinburgh goes to Edward. Im worried Charles will slim down the family and poor Sophie will be a countess for ever.
It is nice to see the Queen reigning again.
