Maxima looks fabulous.

On closer inspection the Queen's suit does look like a tweed.

SenecaFallsRedux · 27/06/2022 23:46

The Queen could go ahead and make Edward the Duke of something else. I don't think there is a mechanism, other than an act of Parliament, to remove the title from Charles.

FGSWhatNow · 28/06/2022 00:04

Goodness, those pictures from Sonia and Harold's 60th birthday! They all look so young! And it's quite poignant to see everyone before they met their partners: Wax without Max, Haakon without MM, Victoria without Daniel, etc. I feel like I've got to know them through these threads and in my mind they each come as a package. Fred's definitely grown into his looks though. A-hem

Are there any dukedoms left that she could give him? I seem to recall when H&M got married there was a discussion about what he would be given and most of the ones available weren't thought to be "suitable" eg Windsor / Clarence, owing to perceptions about previous title-holders. Can new dukedoms not already on the list be invented?

eggandonion · 28/06/2022 00:24

I wonder if Charles could gift it. Edward does a lot of Duke of Edinburgh award stuff, doesn't he.

SenecaFallsRedux · 28/06/2022 01:26

Traditional royal dukedoms not in use at present are Clarence, Cumberland, and Connaught. But those don't have to be used. The Queen could make him Duke of some other place as long as there is no existing title associated with that place.

Charles can't give his Edinburgh title away. It just doesn't work like that. It requires an act of Parliament to remove a peerage, including a royal one.

chesterelly1 · 28/06/2022 07:46

Could Edward and Sophie keep Wessex and become Duke & Duchess of Wessex or does it have to be an existing Dukedom or a completely new place?

Serenster · 28/06/2022 07:47

Yes, they must have a list of “new” dukedoms on file somewhere, as Churchill was offered the hereditary title of Duke of London after WW2 (he turned it down).

Given Edward chose a historic territory for his Earldom it could even be something like Mercia.

eggandonion · 28/06/2022 09:38

Im sure Boris could sort an act of parliament. Although Cumberland sounds nice.
I wonder who is going to the tennis? Meghan seems to be too busy with polo, maybe the Duke of Kent in his dashing uniform!

gluenotsoup · 28/06/2022 10:02

A bit late to this, but I love the soft blue on HM, her colouring suits the softer shades more now I think, and Sophie looks fab in the green, the shape suits her and I like the zinginess.
Max looks great in both outfits but the white is very foxy.
I agree with a bit of a promotion for the Wessexes, they seem to be really trying to support and up their game.

gluenotsoup · 28/06/2022 10:03

Seneca- I am in awe of your royal knowledge🙂😳, are you sure your not a secret royal? 😂

MotherofPearl · 28/06/2022 10:23

I'm sure Kate will be at some of the tennis. Isn't she the now the patron of the All England Lawn Tennis Club?

Leti hosting Jill Biden. I like her b&w dress. Jill looks good in red but I don't like that style of jacket.

Smiles looks great in the white

BornBlonde · 28/06/2022 11:00

Woops Camilla looks great in the white

Max looks amazing in the white, the red is great too but the white is so elegant

LadyEloise1 · 28/06/2022 11:30

@SenecaFallsRedux I think the Dukedom of Connaught being given to Edward and Sophie might be politically catastrophic very incorrect because
Connaught is one of 4 provinces in Ireland.
Ireland fought a war of independence from Britain 100 years ago. There are already problems in the province of Ulster - 6 of Ulster's 9 counties are ruled by the British.
This occurred due to a signing of a treaty between Ireland and the UK. There followed a brutal civil war between pro and anti treatyites, who had previously been on the same side fighting for Irish independence.

Mind you, Sophie's mother was either Irish or of Irish descent so there would be a tenuous link.

I wonder why Churchill turned down the Dukedom of London ?
It's rather nice.

SenecaFallsRedux · 28/06/2022 12:08

I agree Connaught is highly problematical; Cumberland and Clarence have historical issues as well. Those are the reasons that Sussex was the only viable option for Harry among the traditional royal dukedoms. Edward could be Duke of Wessex; there are lots of dukedoms that started out as lesser titles.

As for Churchill accepting a peerage; that would have put an end to his political career as an elected member of the House of Commons and also potentially for his direct heirs.

Thanks for the compliment @gluenotsoup. Smile Not a royal, just a lifelong interest in British history, sparked when I was a child and read a magazine article about Hampton Court, complete with full-color photographs of portraits of various royals. My grandmother helped me make historical fashions for my dolls, and so the intersection with fashion began early too.

Love these threads and thanks to all the posters who keep them going!

Love that black and white dress Leti is wearing. I did a double take at the 2nd photo - I think she looks like Kate in profile!
Jill Biden looks great in red and has the figure for that chic pencil skirt outline, but I feel it's too high on the neckline.

BeaLola · 28/06/2022 13:50

Slightly OT and I know it's been mentioned before but if you're in London near Saatchi gallery in Chelsea the Tiffany exhibition is worth a visit - really interesting and lots of diamonds !

Maireas · 28/06/2022 17:27

I like Leti's black and white dress, it's a simple cut and style and nicer than a regular polka dot. Dr Biden looks good in the red suit.

Sneaking in to say that although this isn't a tiara, if no one minds I'd like to claim it to add to my collection...,

Very nice @frugalkitty. Is there something you would like to tell us??

Maireas · 28/06/2022 18:32

Love it, @frugalkitty !
It's yours now - you're the only one of our gang to own a sceptre Grin

More pictures of Leti and Dr B hanging out. I like that pansy-print dress.

Max and Wax have hosted a concert in Austria, and Max has gone all out with this caped outfit. She looks quite stupendous!

That is not a flattering picture of Leti.
And I'm not sure I like Max's dress this time. I do like Dr B's dress though.
