Interesting commentary here too (Wedding Wednesday)

I really love the 60s aesthetic, so Sonja’s dress is right up my street!

SenecaFallsRedux · 20/06/2022 00:41

I really enjoyed those articles @NiqueNique. I love the sixties aesthetic too, especially for evening wear and wedding dresses.

susiebluebell · 20/06/2022 07:42

Sonja's wedding dress was lovely. Reminded me of Meghan's with the clean lines!

KillingMeDeftly · 20/06/2022 10:54

Sonja and Harald's is such a wonderful love story, especially how he basically stood up to his father and said that if he couldn't marry Sonja then he wouldn't marry anyone and the Norwegian monarchy would come to an end.

Her dress was lovely and hasn't dated very much.

Princess Ingrid Alexandra’s Speech

Having seen the tiara in movement on this video I think it’s actually beautifully delicate and not too substantial at all for a young woman to wear. It’s really very pretty! @Maireas has this tiara been claimed? Otherwise I’d like to add it to my collection please! 🌷

KillingMeDeftly · 20/06/2022 11:38

Ingrid sounds quite American when she breaks into English! But then so does King Harald as I think he lived in the US as a child, during WWII.

SenecaFallsRedux · 20/06/2022 12:47

I think I've mentioned it on previous threads, but I recommend the TV series Atlantic Crossing, which depicts the relationship between Crown Princess Martha, Harald's mother, and President Roosevelt while she lived in Washington with her children. Harald is depicted quite a bit all through it as a young boy.

I watched a clip of Haakon (who went to university in the US) and Mette-Marit speaking English and they both have what are essentially American accents as well.

alwayscheery · 20/06/2022 14:44

I thought we had seen the last of the nude court shoes from Kate but they actually look great on Camilla especially the little platform sole.

Yes most Scandinavians do sound rather more American when they speak English (Danes and Norwegians, at least - the Swedes do that sing-songy thing which sets them apart a bit when it comes to the English language). The members of the Danish Royal Family are quite unusual in sounding much more on the English side in pronunciation and also vernacular imo.

NiqueNique · 20/06/2022 14:51

I do like a nude shoe. I think they’re perfectly acceptable as long as they’re interesting!

NiqueNique · 20/06/2022 14:54

(Of course Margrethe was educated here for a time and Anne-Marie lived here for many years, so it does make sense from that perspective)

I hope they are still happy together not like another Scandinavian monarch, who also married a lovely commoner but played away, sadly.

Crikey, you know the world is going back to normal when this thread moves on about eight pages since my last post! Hurrah for some royal fashion, thanks for sharing photos. I just saw a video on Instagram of the royals walking into Ingrid's party which reminded me to pop in here.

What's interesting about the Danes is that Margrethe and Joachim both sound very upper-class English but Fred has more of what we think of as a Scandi accent. Our favourite birthday girl also has a singsong accent now, but that first made an appearance in their engagement interview!

susiebluebell · 20/06/2022 17:23

I really like those nude shoes on Cam! They're a bit glossy and a bit different with the sole. It's the matte pointy court shoes that make me want to stab my eyes out!

NiqueNique · 20/06/2022 18:01

Fred studied in the US as well, which probably accounts for that. Mary just had to try to put on a posh accent as fast as she could! Wink

KillingMeDeftly · 20/06/2022 18:17

And then there's Felipe of Spain who I expected to sound like Antonio Banderas or Javier Bardem but he's got a mid-Atlantic accent!

StartupRepair · 20/06/2022 22:22

Mette Marit had a year in Australia as an exchange student but the accent didn't stick. I read an interview with her host mother who went to her wedding in Norway.

KillingMeDeftly · 20/06/2022 22:38

I watched an old interview with her and I thought I heard an Australian twang on certain words so that would explain it!

SenecaFallsRedux · 21/06/2022 01:47

There's also Albert, Caroline, and Stephanie of Monaco who speak English with a definitive American accent, which is no surprise as their mother was from Philadelphia and they spent a lot of time there growing up.

SeaRabbit · 21/06/2022 07:10

Two nice dresses on Max & Mary here:

www.thecourtjeweller.com/2022/06/queen-maxima-and-crown-princess-mary-sparkle-in-the-hague.html#more-40595

And some nice jewellery, too.

MotherofPearl · 21/06/2022 12:58

Love those black dresses on Max and CPM. Max looks great in those pearls, and CPM's yellow shoes make a nice contrast. The photo of CPM curtsying to Max is quite something!

LadyEloise1 · 21/06/2022 15:48

I think CPM's yellow shoes with the black dress are dire. Sorry to disagree @MotherofPearl

KillingMeDeftly · 21/06/2022 16:01

I think Mary's shoes are a yellow version of SJP's famous blue wedding shoes from the first Sex and the City film.
