Upper Blepheroplasty

I've made a decision, it will be this year. Can anyone recommend a surgeon for the upper bleph that they have personally used?
If you can provide pictures that would be so great. Thanks in advance!

Ii had laser eye surgery - not pleasant but it was ok.

Not the same procedure.

OneFrenchEgg · 05/05/2023 18:47

No I know that Confused I was replying re being awake and having something unpleasant done in your eye area.

EyeEyeEyes · 06/05/2023 09:09

Had mine done yesterday. Procedure itself was ok but, my eyes are so swollen today I can barely open them and pretty sore. No way I could contemplate getting out of bed.

@itwasntmetho you look amazing! I’ve just booked an appointment with David Cheung (thanks Mumsnet) but now will be looking at Coppergate.
I wouldn’t make a decision on price but it does seem to be a lot cheaper too.

Thank you, I'm really thrilled with it.

I think it's probably a good idea to speak to more than one surgeon before making a decision anyway, I went to a highly recommended surgeon before Coppergate and I didn't feel comfortable with them, they denied the risks and overstated the benefits to the point I felt like I was being sold to, then contacted me quite persistently after the consultation when I'd said I was still thinking about it.

I think the Coppergate pricing is in keeping with the price of that procedure in that region because I was looking at the Skin Surgery Clinic in Leeds before I started this thread and they charge the same.

Oh no! Did you sleep propped up? I think head up and blood pressure low is key. Is your clinic in touch with you today? I think you can usually send them pictures if you're concerned it's not normal.

My opening my eyes was restricted even without swelling, I think the steri strips are restricting.
Hope it goes down soon!

@itwasntmetho You're absolutely right. I also saw another consultant a few years back. They seemed good and weren’t pushy, but the clinic that they were connected with tried to sell me other treatments at the same time, which was off putting.

I’ve seen so many good reviews for Mr Cheung - he is quite a bit more expensive but the fact that he specialises in eyes appeals. Hopefully I’ll feel comfortable when I meet him. Even more hopeful that my result is as good as yours!

Imabitbusyatthemoment · 05/05/2023 14:00

@MissStarry @MyCatsSlave did either of you go ahead with your surgery with Mr David Cheung? If so, were you happy with the procedure and outcome? Thanks.

I had the consultation with Mr Cheung and am waiting to go ahead, I was initially having it done in November but started a new job so couldn’t take the leave. I’ll be having it around February next year because of trips I’ve got booked this year.
I did see another consultant first and felt really sold to as he was telling me about all the other procedures they offered.
The consultation with Mr Cheung was so different, he was much more thorough and explained that a normal blepharoplasty may not have great results due to the way my eyelids are but that an anchor blepharoplasty would have better results but an increased risk of a lack of symmetry afterwards and a lot more bruising and swelling during recovery.

Imabitbusyatthemoment · 07/05/2023 09:52

@MyCatsSlave Thanks for replying. That’s interesting about the anchor bleph. I suspect I won’t be a straightforward case either so definitely think it’s worth seeing a specialist.
Hope all goes well for you.

I'm booked in at Coppergate next month for the same op with Chris West, and it's good to see your pics @itwasntmetho I'm lucky in that I only live 20 mins from York, as this seems to be a really excellent clinic and I was very impressed with them. You do have to wait some time for a consultation though, although it is free (unlike most others), so I guess that's why they are so booked up.

Oh, I hope you'll be coming back with photos! CW did my virtual stitch removal, he's a funny guy.

Oh I will nearer the time. Yes I felt very comfortable with Chris at my consultation, and had no qualms about booking him to my UB.

EyeEyeEyes · 08/05/2023 09:09

Yes I slept propped up and liberal use of ice packs.

Clinic have been excellent and very reassuring, eyes much better today but have decided even working from home is a bit much so will take day to relax.

eyes a bit sore and itchy, but main complaint today (other than swelling) is the antibiotics are making me extremely nauseous - have resorted to white toast and plain pasta diet!

can already see improvement but very envious of those who have breezed through op.

itwasntmetho · 10/05/2023 09:01

Oh god antibiotics? Is that from a complication with the healing?
Hope you're feeling better by now.

OP posts:
EyeEyeEyes · 12/05/2023 08:42

The antibiotics were prophylactic and the wounds have healed well.

I still have two yellow eyes, but swelling on face and lids has gone down and I’m feeling much better

I’m really happy a week on, but I would advise anyone to be prepared. From talking to clinic staff , whilst my healing has been at the rougher end of the spectrum it’s been well within parameters of normal.

Glad you are ok

Purplesilkpyjamas · 04/06/2023 01:39

Is anyone else thinking of having upper and lower blepharoplasty or had it done?

laceydoily · 04/06/2023 06:14

Another rec for: Amir Nakhdjevani at Bella Vou clinic in Tunbridge Wells. He's one of the top plastic surgeons in the UK.

I personally had an upper bleph with Dr Charles Nduka - absolutely wonderful surgeon and I had it done under local. Its honestly changed my life- I look at least 15 years younger. It was a very easy recovery.

WildFlowerBees · 04/06/2023 06:44

Has anyone had it done with a surgeon in the Southwest?

Yes I am. I am in the South east and have booked a consultation with Saul Rajak who is an occuloplastic surgeon. As mentioned above, Charles Nduka is also superb and on my list although due to another eye issue I will most likely go with Saul.

Sorry I misread your post! I am only having uppers done not lowers

Purplesilkpyjamas · 04/06/2023 14:32

I am thinking of David Cheung at the moment but at the beginning of the journey and not had a consultation with anyone yet.

Runaround50 · 04/06/2023 14:52

I am contemplating this for my left eye lid. However I have Horners but with no apparent cause.

Think I will discuss with ophthalmologist who
does the surgery. Don't want it done and then six months down the line, lid has drooped again!

Slowgrowingelm · 07/06/2023 17:38

@OnthePiste Have you had your consult with Saul Rajak yet? Do you know how much an upper eyelid surgery costs with him?

Thanks

I had a consultation with Amir N, I tried to ask the details about potential post surgical bleed (extremely RARE complication) and he said “No, that’s not a thing.” I was a bit disappointed because I know it’s a risk even if vanishingly small. It meant I couldn’t ask what I needed to know without calling him a liar, I also felt like I was being sold to and they were a bit keen to book in and kept chasing me up. I mean I’m sure it would have looked nice because I’ve seen photos of his work but I felt uncomfortable.

the surgeon I ended up going with told me about the risk before I asked him, it meant I could ask the questions I needed to ask and I found out that key to the safest recovery is keeping blood pressure as low as possible for 48 hours following the procedure. I like to be told the truth even if the info is not as nice, I liked having my expectations managed about the result too, it makes me feel in safer hands when someone is realistic.
