I'd love it if headscarves came back, like the Queen wears. My late mum had beautiful ones. No bad hair days and so much more elegant than a hat

You?

For the summer, pedal pushers, nicely cover knee fat.

Ballet flats. Got some in Italy and they are the softest most comfortable shoes I have ever owned. Literally like having my feet in non-greasy butter! I’m not usually swayed by trends, as I just wear what suits, but even I know I look very dated when I wear them! Also under-eye eyeliner. Makes my eyes look sultry and big, but I know it’s very dated. 😞

Ballet flats have never been out ! Every shoe shop always has them and Pretty Ballerina and French Sole don't sell anything else.

Another vote for cloaks. I fancy myself wafting around like the woman in the Scottish Widows advert (but would probably frighten children who'd think I was a Dementor).
Also hats for every day use. There was a bit of a resurgence of them in the 80s; brilliant if you hadn't washed your hair.
And blue kohl. I reckon if I keep using it, it'll come back again.
(That goes completely against my usual rule that if something was all the rage in a particular decade, don't wear it if you were too.)

I wear hats all the time in winter - proper felt hats, not beanies.

Apparently it was fashionable to be chubby in the Renaissance period. I'd be bang on trend if that came back.

justasking111 · 18/05/2022 21:35

Embroidered. Tops, dynasty style suits, big jewellery, baggy boots.

illustratedbookaboutbirds · 18/05/2022 21:37

Short skirts and dresses.

Hate the current fashion for maxi length everything.

Shoulder pads.

Shoulder pads for me too. Gave me a better overall shape.

Boot cut jeans. So much more flattering than skinny jeans if you're not skinny.

I’ve not stopped wearing these!

Riverlee · 18/05/2022 21:39

Boood · 18/05/2022 20:00

Cloaks. Proper full-length hooded cloaks for swooshing around dramatically in.

That would be great.

Riverlee · 18/05/2022 21:39

Men dressing up more.

Covetthee · 18/05/2022 21:45

Confused about all the jeans talk

all the ones mentioned esp bootcut and flares and baggy jeans and combats are actually the height of fashion atm. I rarely see anyone in skinnies atm (apart from myself lol and yes I know shops still sell them and people wear them but the more younger and the fashionista’s are all about the non skinnies)

so ladies go explore the shops and wear those jeans!

i quite liked statement necklaces.

anon2022anon · 18/05/2022 21:49

Flattering clothes. Most stuff that young adults wear nowadays is only flattering if you are one shape/ size, but no-one gives a fuck now and everyone wears it anyway. I applaud it in so many ways, but i also can't shake off the mentality of things looking too tight/ belly out/ fat thighs (on me). But now everything I wear that feels flattering on me makes me feel so old! So that's a selfish want, and I am really glad that girls are giving less of a fuck.

lecreusetpeppermill · 18/05/2022 21:54

Oooh love threads like this!

I'd bring back the glorious bohemianism of the 20's art set, a genuine revival of crazy curls, and just general lack of conservatism in most things..

I also miss tie dyed tights, elephant embroidery and those colourful threads in sections of girls' hair.

lecreusetpeppermill · 18/05/2022 21:55

For some odd reason bootcut jeans make my relatively small arse look wider. Skinnies do the opposite. It must depend on our shape and perspective I think.

Fidodidit · 18/05/2022 21:55

Also confused about the jeans talk. My 15 year old DD only wears wide leg or flared jeans and combats. Bershka is full of them.

FairyCakeSprinkles · 18/05/2022 21:56

Trouser suits, particularly pinstripe ones. I always knew what to wear to work in the early 00's. It was so easy.

camelfinger · 18/05/2022 22:06

Short hair, in natural colours, not wavy.
Natural look makeup.
Not sure of exact fashion but having more of a distinction between work, casual and going out clothes. All seems casual now, which is great but I often feel too scruffy, or overly dressed up (which feels dated in London).
Controversially, shell suits. Imagine how easy it’d be if you could essentially wear a tracksuit and be at the height of fashion.
I liked the gypsy style tops. Generally pretty happy with things now though.

A580Hojas · 18/05/2022 22:09

Clothes made out of natural fibres.

Less make up, no stupid contouring, bronzer, hideous false nails, crazy false eyelashes.

MorrisZapp · 18/05/2022 22:11

Those floppy mid brown leather aviator style jackets from the late 80s. Soft and so sexy worn over a white vest and stonewash jeans. Suntan absolutely essential.

BellaTelly · 18/05/2022 22:11

Shell suits.

I used to love my shell suits

DSGR · 18/05/2022 22:14

Boot cut jeans

OrderofMerlin1stClass · 18/05/2022 22:22

1950s dresses. They are so pretty! I know you can buy and wear them now, I have one. It's beautiful. But I feel very overdressed in it. It's a dress I wear for fancy occasions. (Not often!) I would love for it to be casual, everyday wear 😆

spotcheck · 18/05/2022 22:28

Perms!!!!!!!

NutsaboutFruit · 18/05/2022 22:30

Little one-bar Anello & Davide character shoes, like Marc Bolan used to wear.

TheDogsMother · 18/05/2022 22:49

Boood · 18/05/2022 20:00

Cloaks. Proper full-length hooded cloaks for swooshing around dramatically in.

Oh yes ! Does anyone remember the Scottish Widows advert ? Who wouldn't look good in a cloak like that.
