The sun’s shining over Essex and I’ve been awake since stupid o’clock (after my Labrador did something unspeakable in the kitchen).

The mind has turned to the possibility that soon the summer frocks ( with trainers, sandals, DM’s) will make an appearance. And I want more frocks.

I picked these up in March. Orange one is lovely, blue is yet to be worn as for high summer.

If you’ve found a gem this year, please show and tell 🙂

Has anyone mentioned Jasper Conran yet? I've got my eye in this but would really like to try it on before I buy (a lot of ££££) and it's hard to work out whether there are any physical outlets.

Oh no! Why have I found this thread? Just ordered 2 gorgeous dresses from Muthahood

RockaLock · 28/05/2022 19:30

@WobblyLondoner, funnily enough I've had my eye on this similar-ish Jasper Conran dress!

www.jasperconran.com/collections/dresses/products/birgit-midi-shirt-printed-dress?variant=42460283666666

No idea on size/fit etc though, I'm afraid, as the only Conran stuff I've had before was in the "designers at Debenhams" days.

WobblyLondoner · 28/05/2022 20:29

@RockaLock How funny, that is in my basket too! But I can't buy both. The length is not my usual one and I worry I'll look a bit frumpy with a dress that long.

RockaLock · 28/05/2022 22:16

@WobblyLondoner I did like the look of the kimono dress as well, but thought the colour of the shirt dress would suit me better.

I have a few other things a bit higher up my wishlist at the moment, so I probably won't be ready to try this one out for a few weeks yet - but if you do take the plunge on one of them, please do report back here so I know whether to bother or not Grin

Procrastatron · 29/05/2022 14:55

I’ve been scouring the internet for just one more summer dress. Something plain, minimalist but slightly quirky, no patterns etc. and found this on my local high street… it’s the antithesis of what I have been looking for but It makes reeeaaallly happy

This Effie dress from Boden us really versatile. I wore it casually on holiday as a day dress and changed my footwear wore it dressed up for the evening too.

I'm short but the petite was a bit too short for me. So I opted for regular.

this is the dress on me with identifying detail removed for obvious reasons :-)

@Procrastatron I tried on one very similar to that one but it wasn't quite me however much I wanted it to be.

usernamenotaccepted · 29/05/2022 16:39

Duh!!! i posted on the wrong thread.

Oh, this is lovely.
I want the green one

WobblyLondoner · 31/05/2022 20:06

@WithABiffBangPow @RockaLock
Well I ordered both those Jasper Conran dresses so a report back.

The brown shirt dress is lovely and I will probably keep - the caveat being it's a bit big (but that is the style). I'll try it on again in the morning and see what I think.

The kimono dress (I tried the blue one) looks AWFUL on me! It's huge and feels like a very large dressing gown (not in a good way). Too much fabric for me, too long and made for someone with a much larger bust than me. So that is definitely going back.

KillingMeDeftly · 31/05/2022 20:12

I've bought this and it is nowhere near as sack-like as it looks on the model! I haven't worn it yet but I like it so much that I'm considering buying it in green too!

I’m loving seeing these dresses!

Long, tiered dresses don’t really work for me as I’m dinky, and I prefer cotton. Just found this and I loved the print so have ordered it for my holiday in France

Ah, thank you @WobblyLondoner, for trying both styles out and for reporting back!!

It sounds like I might need to order the shirt dress...

EinsteinaGogo · 31/05/2022 22:28

Just received this from the Roman sale..
£35 - I've got the size 16 and it's surprisingly flattering.

I'm a fan of maxi dresses but not the balloony or tent types. I like long but reasonably streamlined. Wear them a lot for both work and casual.
Have just bought this one from Joe Brown's and it's perfect for me.

I really like that dress! I am small too and that's the style I prefer. The model is 5' 9" though so worried it may look too long in the bodice? Would you mind reporting back? (I just scrape 5 foot)

FFS @Judystilldreamsofhorses you are the expert on hem lengths, lipstick and economics. How bad is it?

I think you mean the user 'ArseintheCoopWindow' ! She knows her stuff.

@RockaLock @WithABiffBangPow update - in the end I sent both back. Just too big. I hate online shopping :(

Just bought this from Next. Never heard of Style Cheat before but their dresses look gorgeous. I'm so in love with this pattern I've bought a shirt mini dress in the same colour.

@PinotPony I bought both of those dresses too! They're both gorgeous, I bought the longer one for a specific event in April and couldn't resist the shirt dress too. I don't tend to wear dresses much but I absolutely love these.

Thank you for this. Having just returned two ginormous dresses (that made me, at 55, look like a little girl playing dress up - not a good look) I have just ordered a couple of things from here, including one of the dresses you linked to (in a lovely gingham). Fingers crossed more successful than my last shop!

Isabelle70 · 09/06/2022 19:55

I have just ordered this one from John Lewis. I need to stop signing up for the notify me when back in stock emails!
