The sun’s shining over Essex and I’ve been awake since stupid o’clock (after my Labrador did something unspeakable in the kitchen).

The mind has turned to the possibility that soon the summer frocks ( with trainers, sandals, DM’s) will make an appearance. And I want more frocks.

I picked these up in March. Orange one is lovely, blue is yet to be worn as for high summer.

If you’ve found a gem this year, please show and tell 🙂

I just bought this www.hush-uk.com/clancy-shirt-dress-red/005019-1055.html

Morning!

Tiered dresses do absolutely nothing for me. Tea dress style, fitted around the bust then slight flare out do, has anyone seen any?

Lady V Day Dress would fit the bill, though tend to be all flowered. This style is cotton with some stretch

EllaPaella · 22/05/2022 14:05

@Judystilldreamsofhorses yep ignore the spiteful comment, those type of posters never contribute anything interesting to S&B threads. You rock everything I've seen you in and I always value your input and suggestions on S&B.

WobblyLondoner · 22/05/2022 14:16

PuppyMonkey · 21/05/2022 21:51

I think I need to wait till this trend for frills and puffed sleeves and florals and big long tiers ends, I don’t like anything so far - is it just me?

Oh no you are by no means alone. I went shopping for a dress a few weeks ago and was just horrified - I hate all the ruffles and ditsy prints, and anything below the knee just looks awful on me. I'm in my 50s and it reminded me of stuff my mum wanted me to wear when I was a (gothy) teen. I could barely find anything to try on let alone want to buy. This is a very useful thread though.

bendmeoverbackwards · 22/05/2022 12:58

We have similar tastes as I've been look at that too please model it for us when it comes @bendmeoverbackwards

Judystilldreamsofhorses · 22/05/2022 16:05

Thank you so much for kind comments - especially posters who I have been on outfit threads or follow me on instagram. 💗 I really don’t expect everyone to love my style, but it was a bit of a shock to read that shitty post!

I think MN has a bad rep for being a mean site, but always think on S&B as being a very kind, supportive board.

darisdet · 22/05/2022 16:44

Do you have a fashion Instagram account? I'd follow you if so, but understand if you don't want to post it on the thread.

Judystilldreamsofhorses · 22/05/2022 17:07

It’s a mix of outfits and other stuff (my car features heavily) @darisdet - PM me if that sounds of interest.

Judystilldreamsofhorses · 22/05/2022 17:07

CAT. Not car. 🐈

Fizbosshoes · 22/05/2022 17:10

@LadyEloise1 Isn't it the Pope ? @Fizbosshoes 🤔

Yes I knew it was (and had an idea given the link) ...but I'd never noticed any similarities before!!

LadyEloise1 · 22/05/2022 20:33

😂

popularinthe80s · 23/05/2022 08:03

Lurking like a bad smell around this thread - really enjoying seeing others' beautiful dresses.
However, there is a huge gap in the market for petite women who don't want frills and flowers (I have friends who look beautifully carefree and insouciant in this combination, but on my small frame it makes me look like a 50 year old who is clinging on to girlishness). Either that or the routine 3 office-smart dresses for petites that M&S churn out each year, in navy, black and pallid beige.
If anyone under 5 foot 2 can provide ideas, please do share as I'm getting desperate.
@Judystilldreamsofhorses , I second comments above, that poster was just playground mean. We have crossed paths before and I think I would love your instagram - would you mind PM-ing me a link?

LadyEloise1 · 23/05/2022 08:29

Lovely dresses in M&S, what a shame they don't come in petite. Having said that, at almost 5ft 4 I kinda fall between two stools. Too tall for petite and not tall enough for the lovely dresses.

RampantIvy · 23/05/2022 08:32

I think MN has a bad rep for being a mean site, but always think on S&B as being a very kind, supportive board.

Sadly, in my experience that is not always the case. The word "frumpy" is thrown around a lot by posters who are self-appointed fashion police.

Earlier this year I ordered a dress from Hot Squash (via Next), it was made of great quality, substantial fabric but as I’m short and petite it was too voluminious for me. If you are tall I think it would suit you well 😊

UglyModernWindows · 23/05/2022 08:40

That was for @CoverYourselfInChocolateGlory
it was meant to be a quote!

Procrastatron · 23/05/2022 09:30

@popularinthe80s i have a different version of the same problem in that my bleached pixie clashes with too many frills so I need to keep shapes simple and avoid frills. I think that’s why Cos appeals to me a lot. Not sure how that works out for more petite people though as I’m 5’6.
@Judystilldreamsofhorses Was it the gold chains and orange lips comment? Because to me that look is ❤️

PestorPeston · 23/05/2022 10:12

There are so many styles out there at the moment. Long, short, baggy, fitted, huge prints, plain surely there is something for everyone?

Just have a quick look through the ICHI dress range www.ichi.biz/en-en/bycategoryclothing/dressesandjumpsuits bodycon seems to be the only style missing.

popularinthe80s · 23/05/2022 10:36

@Procrastatron I've just had bleach swiped through my pixie cut! I love it! Do share a pic if you're feeling bold.
And yes, I've now exacerbated the frills problem with boyish punk haircut.
@PestorPeston you would certainly think so - but do a quick google of 'petite summer dresses' and you'll see the problem, if you don't want a frill or a flounce.

PestorPeston · 23/05/2022 10:47

@popularinthe80s how is Uniqlo for petite stuff?

They are the most popular brand in Japan, which is known for petite women.

User7853367 · 23/05/2022 10:51

I bought this. I'm fed up with tent dresses too. For the poster who was looking for tea dresses - Joe Browns have a few.

Other ideas for shorties / petites
www.independent.co.uk/extras/indybest/fashion-beauty/womens-clothing/best-petite-clothing-brands-uk-jeans-asos-topshop-jcrew-next-boden-9643550.html

Expensive but all petite www.thereformation.com/dresses

Mid price and probably for the petite of build as well as height revethelabel.co.uk/collections/shop

Wouldn't it be nice if petite collections in main stream shops bothered to have a petite model.

TheDogsMother · 23/05/2022 11:05

@popularinthe80s I feel your pain and I am also lurking hopefully. I am 5ft 3 and in my 50s so this years frilly, flouncy puff sleeved numbers do absolutely nothing for me. I much prefer a tea dress style and have managed to find a couple at M & S. I did get a couple of lovely ones from Jigsaw last year but even they have succumbed to the frills.

JudgeRindersMinder · 23/05/2022 11:08

I’ve been living in this since I bought it in March, obviously with the obligatory trainers and denim jacket 😁www.next.co.uk/g6489s2/t20565#t20565 (the photo doesn’t do it justice, it’s way more vibrant)
