Morning all, I've been AWOL recently - life / half term got in the way.

Those M&S trousers are fab @EllaPaella - I'm off to investigate too. I love your stripy pair today @Sooverthemill !

@EllaPaella believe it or not I bought those exact sandals....and then had to send them back because I couldn't walk in them (!) They felt funny around my heel. Absolutely gorgeous though.

For anyone else interested in Esska they are having a sample / seconds sale this week so I'm hoping for a bargain.

Weather forecast this week for the Frozen North of Scotland is, predictable, cloudy and cool. We're forecast to be about 15 degrees cooler than the SE of England later this week!! (17 here vs 32 there)

Today for me I'm dressed for summer but have hidden layers underneath and will have a large jacket on top.

Knitted Top - & Other Stories
Vest under - M&S
Trousers - Sweaty Betty
Sandals - Salt Water

Whoops - @OublietteBravo it was you who had the fab M&S trousers!

Softpebbles · 13/06/2022 17:32

@Sickoffamilydrama love that suit outfit on you. You look great.

check you out @toastfiend looking amazing. Ouch on the sleep though.

had to go to a work thing today. No hoody and denim! 😱

Pleated skirt - boutique place T-shirt gap and DKNY little cardi as I’m either freezing or melting with a hot flush! Grrrr

It's rainy and a bit chilly here today so I'm wearing this warm Graniph dress with Cheburashka print.☔

@Sooverthemill I like those trousers! And Marmite too as it happens.
And @Sickoffamilydrama I do love a good trouser suit.

I have name changed. Hated my user name 'intwrferingma'. It sprang from a spelling mistake durrr.
Faffadoodledoo is a word I use at home to describe something that's a faff and too much trouble, and which I used on another MN thread the other day. People really liked it so I thought - yep that's me! So sorry for confusion. This is now me! No outfit to post today since I'm going to have a swim in a new place - a local lake rather than the sea, and can envisage I'll be swathed in trackies for the rest of the day!

marie3877 · 14/06/2022 08:08

Hi, I ve never posted on this thread but I ve had a quick read through and wondered whether anyone could help me.
I m 44, short (5,2) with wide shoulders, size 12, ok legs and a wobbly tummy after having 3 kids.
After having the kids and turning 40 I don’t really know what to wear anymore, I used to love clothes but I feel lost now. Sorry to waffle but anyway, I m going to London with kids this weekend and I know it supposed to be scorching, what should I wear? I spend my life in jeans and plain shirts and if it ever gets hot I switch the jeans for casual shorts. I want to blend in with the crowd, and not stand out or look ridiculous. I ve no idea what to wear, had a look online but still stumped. A lot of midi dresses I like but they drown me and fit in the wrong places because of my height. Yesterday I bought a skirt from hush (sentanta leopard print) but it’s too long on me and I m not brave enough for the print so am sending it back.
Sorry to go on a bit but just wondered if anyone has any ideas for me, I ve never felt great about myself but I m at my lowest ebb at the moment and I just want to have a great weekend with my kids and not worry about what I m wearing.
we re going to see all the touristy stuff and Harry Potter studio tour.

Thanks.

faffadoodledo · 14/06/2022 08:18

@marie3877 I don't think you need to worry. Honestly, people are far less interested than you think. And there are so many people and so many styles (and not!) in London. The important thing tho is YOU feel comfy and happy. So I'd persevere with the dress option tbh. Even if your not entirely happy with the fit. And comfy shoes. Trainers and trainer socks/liners is my advice. And do what I do - carry a fan on the tube. An old fashioned lady's fan. It really helps!
Have fun. And stay cool and comfy. X

marie3877 · 14/06/2022 08:26

@faffadoodledo thanks for replying. I ve looked at dresses but can’t find any that suit me, I don’t want a really short one but the midi ones are too long for me. I m stuck. I ll keep looking though.

faffadoodledo · 14/06/2022 08:29

I wasn't v helpful by not suggesting anything!
But something like this might fit the bill

tuclothing.sainsburys.co.uk/p/Khaki-Linen-Rich-V-Neck-Dress/140571673-Khaki?searchTerm=:newArrivals:type:Dresses&searchProduct=

Cool, right length. Dress it up with long gold coloured necklace. And ALL dresses are ok with trainers these days!

faffadoodledo · 14/06/2022 08:30

Come back and show us what you eventually decide to wear!

Sooverthemill · 14/06/2022 08:41

@Softpebbles my exact white denim shorts are on whistles in the sale. Tempted to get another pair but I don’t need them!
my hair remains curly even when I wash it myself! Gosh
tee: Sézane via eBay
jeans: Sézane via vinted

@marie3877 try a shorter dress, above the knee if you’ve got good legs. I find some long dresses drown me too.

WestrayWife · 14/06/2022 09:02

@marie3877 what about some culottes? I'm only 2" taller than you and most culottes sit just above my ankle so shouldn't drown you? I'm eyeing up this pair from River Island at the moment, but they have lots of other styles too

www.riverisland.com/p/orange-floral-culottes-766390

Today for me it's:

Joggers - M&S
Top - Boden
Jacket - Boden
Shoes - Fit Flop
Earrings - Tatty Devine

marie3877 · 14/06/2022 09:08

@WestrayWife I love the culottes you linked too but I m not brave enough to wear them, I need neutral stuff that I can blend into the background with.
I love your green pants too.

Softpebbles · 14/06/2022 09:10

www.asos.com/prd/201763696?acquisitionsource=pasteboard

what about something like this. ASOS have lots of midi dresses in petite. Sandals or trainers and you are good to go.

Although this for a hot day would be lovely. And it’s cotton.

Sooverthemill · 14/06/2022 09:29

@marie3877 only just looked back. I’m 5’1 and a half so understand how tricky it can be. If you have a Boden budget they have excellent petite dresses and skirts. And express shipping and easy returns ( so get a few to try maybe) otherwise I’d check out Tu Tesco and Asda for dresses and skirts. I often wear a midi that’s a maxi on me. I also have hems taken up. In London you can wear anything! I’d suggest a skirt and nice blouse or dress and a denim jacket and either Birkenstock type sandals or white trainer.

Sickoffamilydrama · 14/06/2022 11:35

@marie3877 new look has some lovely dresses at the moment and they are usually to short for me so will probably work for you.

Yesterday's outfit was thrown on as I was shattered DS has chicken pox and couldn't sleep as he was so itchy. It's settled today hopefully he'll back to school tomorrow.

Does anybody happen to have Boden discount code (all the ones I googled are expired)? And when does their summer sale usually start, does anybody remember?

@Sickoffamilydrama fabulous gingham jumpsuit!

Sooverthemill · 14/06/2022 13:32

J7T7 is 10% off that's all there is at the moment. The sale is usually end of June I think @toucaninjapan

EllaPaella · 14/06/2022 15:17

@marie3877 both of @Sooverthemill's suggestions are lovely.
What about something like this jump suit? Not sure of your budget but New Look can come up trumps sometimes. This jumpsuit with converse high-tops and a denim jacket would be perfect for mooching around London and the Harry Potter studio's.

For inspiration I would recommend finding a few people on instagram who's style you like and follow them, play around with different looks and styles that you like. If things are too long it's definitely worth finding a local clothes adjustment place and get things taken up and tailored to fit just right.

On the jumpsuit theme @marie3877 next petites are good - as are banana republic

I lived in London for 20 years and can confirm that absolutely no one will be looking at you and you'd blend in even if you wore a neon pink bikini and a tartan hat.

So I'd got for comfort and floaty- the tube can be roasting.
