It'll be fun to (hopefully) see wedding pictures from there! I wonder if they'll go all out and have a fantastic OTT wedding after waiting so long, or maybe they'll go the other way and keep it very small and restrained...

SenecaFallsRedux · 02/05/2022 15:34

I think Gustav's sister, Princess Nathalie, had her wedding reception there.

I wonder if there will be a balcony appearance by a certain family...

I know we don't comment on the H/M saga but if I were the Queen I would be saying to them commit now either way because I don't want the whole thing overshadowed by a will they / won't they saga!

I saw some pap shots of all of the great grandkids (minus A and L) on a carriage which I assume is a photo for the jubilee.

justasking111 · 02/05/2022 16:03

Check in ☺️

NiqueNique · 02/05/2022 16:31

@hopeishere Oops do we not comment on that? I must've missed something along the way...if so I'm definitely happy to keep to that rule as I don't want to cause any trouble! This is such a nice thread without any drama.

I saw those too, seemed like a lovely day and fun for the children.

TracyBeakerSoYeah · 02/05/2022 17:03

Thanks for the new thread @Maireas 😊

Alwayscheerful · 02/05/2022 17:09

Thank you

SenecaFallsRedux · 02/05/2022 17:10

This is such a nice thread without any drama.

Yes. I don't think it's been mentioned in a while, and there have been so many threads now, but fairly early on there emerged a sense that we can say negative things about the clothes to our hearts' content, but not about the people ( a bit of gentle ribbing about, oh for example, how many milestone birthday observances a particular CP might have is okay, however.)

I think this understanding helps to preserve the sense of community that has developed on the thread. There is so much downright unpleasantness in many of the threads in the Royal Family section that I try to stay away from that.

MotherofPearl · 02/05/2022 17:13

Lovely new thread; thanks Maireas.

Seeing that castle made me think that along with our tiaras we should also be allowed to pick royal palaces! I think I'd go for Balmoral as I really love Scotland.

Maireas · 02/05/2022 17:17

Absolutely spot on, @SenecaFallsRedux .
@MotherofPearl - I think that the setting for Balmoral is gorgeous - but I'd have to rip out all the tartan carpets and thistle wallpaper and curtains! I once visited Glamis, and thought that would be a nice place to live.

That is an absolutely lovely wedding dress and bouquet.

I'd have to check it...but I think that's the figure I read somewhere at some point. I've not got insider knowledge or anything so don't put too much stock in what i say! It also obviously includes land, property (castle and so on!), artworks and precious antiquities as well, so I've no idea of how much of the fortune was/is in actual cash IYSWIM.

I have since read that a cousin, Prince Ludwig, actually filed a lawsuit against Gustav, claiming that he had breached the terms of his grandfather’s will by having a “common-law wife” who didn’t meet the necessary stipulations, and his rights under the will were forfeit to Prince Ludwig (!!). Family Christmasses will be awkward, I guess…. Anyway, Gustav won, the cousin then appealed, Gustav won again, and those are the proceedings that led to the will being overturned. Quite the drama 😎

Serenster · 02/05/2022 17:56

Oh - an I quoted NiqueNique’s post as I meant to say - obviously the estate is worth quite a bit if a relative is willing to take that kind of action to get their hands on it!

KillingMeDeftly · 02/05/2022 18:15

There's a nice video on the Danish RF's Instagram of Isabella arriving at the church for her confirmation and being greeted by Daisy with a big hug and kiss. Not a curtsy in sight - such a refreshing change from the Brits!

LadyEloise10 · 02/05/2022 18:36

@Maireas isn't Glamis supposed to be haunted ( and not by a nice ghost ) Shock

SenecaFallsRedux · 02/05/2022 18:36

That is a lovely video of the Danish RF.

As for castles, I also love Scotland, and since there is some Campbell DNA in my lineage, and also because the setting is beautiful, I'd like to branch out from royal residences and claim Inveraray Castle. I'd still want the Duke to do the occasional stint in the gift shop, though.

Eaumyword · 02/05/2022 18:44

Checking in, thanks for the new thread!

NiqueNique · 02/05/2022 18:56

@Serenster Yes I believe it was his great uncle, Prince Ludwig-Ferdinand of Sayn-Wittgenstein-Berleburg , who challenged Gustav's right to inherit the family estate. I think that case was comprehensively settled in 2020. And now the problematic clause itself has also finally been overturned. Apparently the wedding is to be a small, intimate affair, so I don't suppose we will see a whole lot of photos. But hopefully at least a few! And hopefully a good number of lovely frocks and some wonderful jewellery...

@KillingMeDeftly The Danish household is generally quite informal at private/family gatherings although I don't know the exact protocol they adhere to. They do definitely curtsy at public or state events.

I think we really ought to post Charlotte's lovely birthday photos on this thread too since the last one filled up so soon, so she can get her proper Birthday acknowledgement today, but I can't do it as I can't get photos to attach!

NiqueNique · 02/05/2022 19:08

@MotherofPearl Splendid idea! Although I'm not sure that adding castles/palaces will be good for my hoarding tendencies!! 😆

However I suppose one must have at least one Royal Residence, so @Maireas please may I have Fredensborg Palace which holds a lot of happy memories!

Oh a lovely new thread, with a fab title!
Back soon!

Justkeeppedaling · 02/05/2022 21:02

It's not a castle but I would love to call Llwynywermod my own if no one else wants it please.

NiqueNique · 02/05/2022 21:06

I didn't realise until just now when looking her up on Wiki that Princess Nathalie shares her birthday with Princess Charlotte so that's two royal birthdays today!

PolkadotsAndMoonbeams · 02/05/2022 22:02

That one does look a nice castle.

My DM, DSis and I 'collect' stately homes.

RomainingCalm · 02/05/2022 22:04

Just checking in and thank you as always @Maireas. This thread is such a lovely part of Mumsnet.

If we are choosing royal residences I'd quite like Highgrove please. I keep promising myself that I will go and do the garden tour one year but have never quite made it. I suspect it may need a bit of decorating but hopefully Camilla will leave the key to the gin cupboard. Smile
