Gutted by new haircut

Got my haircut 2 days ago and just feeling awful. I thought it was the shock of the change, but I think I knew really that it was a bad cut. Today my friend confirmed that it really is bad.

I think it is an inverted bob style. I don't blame the stylist for the style itself, as each thing is technically within what was discussed - although it really doesn't suit me. BUT the execution is (in my opinion) pretty shoddy and I am just so sad.

For example, I wanted it below the chin, but because he cut it almost at the nape from the back, the whole length is very short and only 1 inch sections at the front are below the chin. And these 2 pieces are noticeably longer than the rest of the hair, they look like they should be trimmed off. The back and sides are bulky, and don't lay nicely. At the back especially, there seems to be a second layer underneath messily poking out.

When I pin back the 2 long front sections, the 2 halves are different lengths. I assumed I parted it wrongly, but even when doing a ridiculously deep side part the length discrepancy remains.

I cannot lose any more length, the style itself is very unflattering, and I am petrified of getting it rectified and making it shorter. I can just about pull it into a one inch ponytail, sort of.

Any advice of how to move forward? Have some occasions coming up and feeling so sad. Thanks

Oh darling - you should go back, ask to speak to the Manager, cry if you feel like it, a Senior Stylist should look and advise what they will do - doesn’t need much - and at no cost to you and probably apologise to you profusely! Terribly making you feel sad !

@ABitDrunk

Looks much better. Such a beautiful colour and so shiny.
This. You have stunning hair.

It looks fabulous.

I can be fully honest now.

THAT was like something a friend would do.
Shocking.

So glad you got it fixed.
Fabulous.

Italianmeringuebuttercream · 08/04/2022 18:41

@JillPole123 just seen your fix up cut. Looks 100 times better, so glad you got it sorted xxx

ThistleTits · 08/04/2022 18:42

@JillPole123

Thanks, will try to attach the back view, until I can sufficiently anonymise (?) the other photos
Was he drunk/hungover? It's very uneven.
prettypastel · 08/04/2022 18:48

I’m so glad you managed to get it rectified, the new stylist has done a great job it looks really pretty!

PeaceToEveryOne · 08/04/2022 18:50

I think everyone has had a bad cut, at least once in their life's.
It honestly doesn't look terrible, try blow drying it with a bit of a flick or a wave, it will be hard to notice then, leave it a couple of weeks, then get s trim.

BlancheB · 08/04/2022 18:55

Gorgeous colour and it looks like it's in lovely condition, so shiny.

Brennanlady1888 · 08/04/2022 18:57

You have beautiful glossy hair The colour is gorgeous. It's not the worst cut I have seen for a bob. The length is a little uneven but it will grow out quickly .

Flatbrokefornow · 08/04/2022 19:00

If you don’t want to offend the perpetrator, what about going back to the other stylist and saying you have made a terrible mistake and you hate the style. Can they help even it out and give you something less edgy/more polished/conservative ie pretend that you think it supposed to look like that and that you personally don’t like it? That way the other stylist could correct it and perhaps quietly offer to comp it? We all have bad days.

I wouldn’t dare. I’ve never yet found a hairdresser that can cut my hair as I like it. They make it look ‘choppy’ on purpose and nothing I say will stop them. I just ask for it longer than I want, hope for the best at the back and tidy the front up myself when I get home.

In your position I would chop those bits at the front off myself, and get the back evened up somewhere else.

SufferingJet · 08/04/2022 19:01

It will grow out but I totally feel your pain. I actually went to a local hairdresser after lockdown to save money (my usual salon is pricey) and asked for an inverted bob just above my shoulders.

A few minutes in it became clear that it was way too short (the layers at the back were up to my ears). But I didn't stop her (damage was already done and she was nearly in tears over her sick dog).

I ended up going to my usual expensive salon where someone turned it into something less hideous until it could grow some more.

There were tears.

PollyPurpose · 08/04/2022 19:11

You have beautiful hair and a beautiful colour too.

It will grow out very quickly. I would do two things. Phone or email and demand a refund. Then go to another salon and have the front made the same length all round. It will grow fast and then just find a salon you trust (or never get your haircut again lol)

I had this 10 years ago, after a break up. It was the worst haircut and I went to another salon after and they were horrified. I was so upset I had professional extensions for a while. But I was having a confidence crisis post break up and missed my very long hair.

If I were you I’d embrace the headband trend x

Nelliephant1 · 08/04/2022 19:20

That looks fab and I totally agree about the beautiful condition and colour!

I've always had long hair but even when I'm just getting the ends trimmed, my hairdresser makes sure I'm not sitting with my legs crossed as it throws off cutting in a straight line. Maybe another tip for the future!! 😄

Enjoy your friends glam wedding, I bet you'll look gorgeous.

Sidge · 08/04/2022 19:38

The fix job is so much better.

I’m not sure if it’s the photo angle though but it still looks longer from the back on your right side?

StargazerAli · 08/04/2022 19:45

I have a similar problem at the moment. I had mine rectified by having it layered but am still unhappy and in some ways it's even worse now. I'll have to ride mine out until it's grown but judging from my own experience, I think you should just have it trimmed to disguise the length difference and leave it to grow. I think your hair still looks lovely and it won't take long until you're happy with it again.

StargazerAli · 08/04/2022 19:47

Oops, sorry, just realised you've already had it done. Looks great! Glad you're happy.

Jjjayfee · 08/04/2022 20:00

I would ask someone at the salon to look at it. The from needs to be shorter to run in a nice slope from back sides. At the back the under hair usually has to be a bit shorter than the outer hair to avoid the ridge effectBut you have beautiful hair so a couple of tweaks should make it look good imo

Dagnabit · 08/04/2022 20:07

It isn’t a great cut but on the bright side, your hair is shiny and a lovely colour.

Jjjayfee · 08/04/2022 20:08

Oops sorry just saw the new hair.. lovely

Dagnabit · 08/04/2022 20:10

Sorry, missed the update - that’s miles better!

Emcolmol · 08/04/2022 21:15

That is an awful cut and you say the owner did it???!!!!!! Demand your money back then get it sorted by a different salon. Then name & shame this atrocious salon

Pompomaker · 09/04/2022 07:42

I think the length is fine on you (from what I can see) I also think you have gorgeous hair.. mine is very limp and I’d trade with you cut and all! I’d go to a decent hairdresser and get it evened out. Have you considered getting the front cut into a fringe or ‘curtain bangs’ it might make you feel different. I always feel lovely with a good fringe haha but that’s just me 😹 xx

Pompomaker · 09/04/2022 07:45

Sorry I missed the update too! Looks great! :)

Member984815 · 09/04/2022 11:39

The update pics look amazing

AWOL66 · 09/04/2022 12:31

I feel for you as I know how upsetting it feels. I think the reason it's upsetting for anyone is because you feel like the hairdressers been in your personal space, chatted to you, and you wind up feeling mugged off. Getting hair cuts can be very hit and miss for anyone and isn't personal. We've got similar hair type and I've had a similar cut. It's not that bad but I'd definitely go somewhere new and get it evened up and the front bits trimmed shorter. I'd then practice a couple of half up dos from professional youtubers. There's some good ones out there where they show you how to plat bits in the side (like grown up wedding style French plats which go down the sides of your head to the back of your head). Or you could just leave it once you've trimmed it and treat yourself to some nice new make up like a nice bronzer or cream blusher. Youtubers show which are best and techniques. It takes your focus off your hair. Suddenly itll have grown out and you'll feel back to normal

Anabella23 · 09/04/2022 13:01

to be honest the sides do not look as bad as you think, but the back does. Find a decent hairdresser and get the shape recut to how it should be - you wont loose much more length, Why a smooth bob anyway - not the most flattering of cuts - get some chop in it to add volume and life
