Got my haircut 2 days ago and just feeling awful. I thought it was the shock of the change, but I think I knew really that it was a bad cut. Today my friend confirmed that it really is bad.

I think it is an inverted bob style. I don't blame the stylist for the style itself, as each thing is technically within what was discussed - although it really doesn't suit me. BUT the execution is (in my opinion) pretty shoddy and I am just so sad.

For example, I wanted it below the chin, but because he cut it almost at the nape from the back, the whole length is very short and only 1 inch sections at the front are below the chin. And these 2 pieces are noticeably longer than the rest of the hair, they look like they should be trimmed off. The back and sides are bulky, and don't lay nicely. At the back especially, there seems to be a second layer underneath messily poking out.

When I pin back the 2 long front sections, the 2 halves are different lengths. I assumed I parted it wrongly, but even when doing a ridiculously deep side part the length discrepancy remains.

I cannot lose any more length, the style itself is very unflattering, and I am petrified of getting it rectified and making it shorter. I can just about pull it into a one inch ponytail, sort of.

Any advice of how to move forward? Have some occasions coming up and feeling so sad. Thanks

@Ballsaque

I agree if you can rough it up a bit,or do that wavy thing with straighteners it will look less wonky.

I know bobs are tricky but that’s why we pay the professionals!!

Bear in mind if you get it rectified it will have to go even shorter.

I was going to say this about rough curls with straighteners/curling wand and then brush through with a wide tooth comb and the uneven length wont be noticeable.

You need to say something though, understandably you don't want to with the stylists current personal situation, but you paid him to provide you with a service that he hasn't provided.

And, yes I agree with others that you have beautiful hair!

I was nearly in tears after one haircut. I really hated it and it looked nothing like what we'd agreed on or the picture they'd showed me. All the other hairdressers were making a fuss about how it was so 'on-trend'.

It was a very fashionable cut but didn't suit me at all. Friends and family were so silent when they first saw - the deadly silence is a good indicated of a hair-don't. But as my partner so helpfully said - you can always wear a hat. I got a few wide hair bands/bandana type things and wore them for a month or so.

Okay just got out of salon, feeling a hundred times better. Thanks everyone for the moral support. In the end she suggested to invert slightly, so I still have the length at the front. She straightened everything up, and kept muttering 'crazy' while she was doing it Grin. Also asked me twice if I was sure I hadn't done it myself. Apparently it was even worse than it looked, with one side having a completely short bit underneath, so she had to do some trickery to make it look symmetrical.

She under cut the back with scissors and shaped it/rounded it out. I feel completely good now, don't even think it's that unflattering anymore.

She spent ages with the comb and scissors, both on the wet and dry hair. It made me realise that when she was scooting around on her stool at my level, the original stylist had done the whole cut from a standing position! And he is a pretty tall guy!

Finally, she said she would not shape with the barrel brush because she needed to see how it 'actually' looked. So fingers crossed that I should be able to dry it more or less the same at home.

Glad for a satisfying and quick resolution, thanks again everyone. Photos from cafe toilet attached.

That looks so much better, and not much shorter

I'd definitely book to go back again in 8 weeks!

ABitDrunk · 07/04/2022 15:33

Looks much better. Such a beautiful colour and so shiny.

ifIwerenotanandroid · 07/04/2022 15:36

If the styilist has sensitive stuff going on, that might explain the cut - I had one dreadful cut done when the stylist had just had an argument with her boss, & another when a different stylist was taking calls about selling her house & was so distracted that she didn't finish some bits! I feel for you - been there, done that.

I've found it's OK to go & ask in a different salon for some advice about what's possible & what they'd recommend. After the house-selling fiasco I did that & the stylist said she could see exactly where the other one had got distracted! She dry cut it for free, to make it right.

Another time I got free advice, but the advice was, "There's nothing to be done, leave it for at least 6 weeks & when you can't stand it any more, come in & we'll do a bit to it, but it still won't be exactly what you want."

I think yours is much more salvageable than that, so I'd ask around for advice & help.

Sorry, thought there was only 1 page!!

So glad your're sorted.

@Chiefofstaff

For anyone who is saying it’s only hair, get it into perspective, it’ll grow etc. That is very true but it can totally knock your confidence when you hate your hair or have problems with it. My friend works in oncology and says one of the first questions women often ask when they’re told they will need chemo, is about their hair.
I mentioned it to my oncologist (I was borderline for chemo) & he said some women actually refuse chemo for that reason.

Just read the whole thread. Your new new cut is gorgeous OP! Love your glossy hair.

ScribblingPixie · 07/04/2022 16:02

That looks great now, OP. Very chic!

OutingHobby · 07/04/2022 16:07

Ddot · 07/04/2022 16:08

Mummyoflittledragon · 07/04/2022 16:54

That is tons better! I’m glad you’re pleased with the result now.

EarringsandLipstick · 07/04/2022 19:19

That's lovely OP, so glad you got sorted. Thank you for coming back to the thread too! It's great to see how the 'fixed' hair cut looks, so often we only see posters' disaster cuts!

CarbsAreNotMyFriend · 07/04/2022 20:46

Looks beautiful now!!! 😍

Ballsaque · 07/04/2022 21:46

It looks great OP!

Namaste6 · 07/04/2022 23:33

Gorgeous cut OP. Glad you got it sorted out. Suits your face shape.

Geppili · 08/04/2022 03:13

Such beautiful hair!

Chiefofstaff · 08/04/2022 10:11

What a difference. It looks really good. And it actually looks longer at the sides and hardly any shorter at the back. I’d definitely be going back there.

Roselilly36 · 08/04/2022 10:17

Aww much better, what a relief, I had an awful haircut when I moved at a new hairdresser, I just wanted to run out screaming as she was cut, I knew it wasn’t right, she even burnt me twice with the straighteners. I was a wimp, when she asked what I thought, I just said tidy 😂 paid and left…never to return.

FoggySpecs · 08/04/2022 18:13

Get to a Vidal sassoon this is their signature style and they will sort it out. I think you have gorgeous hair.

FoggySpecs · 08/04/2022 18:16

Posted too soon, the fix up job is great, lovely. Smile

Jack80 · 08/04/2022 18:27

I would go to the other stylist and say you aren’t happy as you don’t think the style suits you and can’t they adjust it. Or even go to your friend and ask her to change it.

Italianmeringuebuttercream · 08/04/2022 18:32

@JillPole123 The back looks similar to when my dd had her hair cut into a bob. Her hair was almost to her waist, she said she'd like to donate her hair so hairdresser put it in a ponytail and then hacked her hair above the band. When she'd finished, we both noticed the uneven bottom and she tried to say she had breakage from wearing her hair up - her hair was rarely in a ponytail, I always did French plaits or similar. I just smiled and paid. I never went back (she was my hairdresser who I saw every 6 weeks) I was fuming! I never complained. Within a month, it was long enough to fix (dd didn't want to go shorter like you). I'd trim the front bits and forget the back - out of sight, out of mind!
