When was the last time you felt this, what for?
I can't help but feel like fashion was better 5-10 years ago. I cant remember the last time I felt strongly about purchasing something.
(I'm talking going out tops/bags/shoes/ jeans/ dresses... everything basically). I don't even know which shops to shop in now.. help a girl out?

What are your favourite recent purchases?

I'm now trying to work out when I'm ever going to wear them, but they are gorgeous!

Ireolu · 05/04/2022 12:29

Last night at the sunglasses store at Heathrow T3.

PoshPyjamas · 05/04/2022 12:39

@MintyMoocow 😀 Yay! I thought I was going to get slated for putting them on the credit card! Totally true re cost per wear!

londonmummy1966 · 05/04/2022 12:52

YoureBreakingMyHeartCecilia · 05/04/2022 13:08

I get this quite a lot but have learned (the hard way) to pause before I go ahead.

Last time I did this it was with 2 Baukjen dresses that I bought full-price without waiting for a sale like I normally would do. I loved them SO much I didn’t want to risk missing out.

I’ve worn them each twice since last summer. Cost per wear that is EMBARRASSING. They are both perfectly nice but I don’t love them and every time I wear them I feel slightly shifty and ashamed of myself for falling for a lifestyle that I don’t really live. I imagined I would wear them to a jaunty brunch or for an early summer shopping stroll. I am not That Person and I feel a bit overdressed in them and not quite like me.

They were £150 each Blush and I HAVE to wear them as much as possible this summer to even begin to justify spending that much. Or I may try to sell them I guess. They’re gorgeous dresses but I can’t make them work for me really.

So yes. I do get that feeling when I see lovely things. I resist it wherever possible!!!

I regularly love items on high end clothing store websites - Massimo Dutti, Reiss, Whistles, Jigsaw, Net-a-Porter, Kurt Geiger, Jimmy Choo. I look but never ever buy. I love the cut, attention to detail, the quality of material.

I rarely never love any item from lower end shops and buy out of necessity only - H&M, Dorothy Perkins, New Look, River Island.

Poshpjyamas
£215 is expensive but fine if you can afford it. I recentlybbought a pair of dungarees in a sale for £25.

Everyday
Those shoes are pretty

Namaste
Vejas appear to be popular with middle class mothers out and about with their dc. Or at least it appears this way. The silver look trendy.

Mintymoocow
Funnily my sister bought me a dress for £85 and I thought it was too expensive. The most I spend is £50 whether casual, for work or special occasions.

beguiling
That dress is stunning

Mrszz
This dress is versatile so you will get a lot of wears out of it.

Interesting; I used to be like this and haven't been at all for a few years or more now. For me I just think I've moved on from getting a kick out of shopping and have learned that liking something doesn't mean I need it, that tastes change and I likely won't feel that way about whatever it is in a year or so, that actually I bought things for a life I didn't have and for who I wanted to be rather than was and lastly I've come to really hate wasting money or not getting wear out of things. I have 1 wardrobe of clothes that all go together and have some lovely things so just rifle through that when I need a sartorial fix.

I've never concluded the shops don't sell things I like, I think any given shop will usually have something you like or feel you want for some reason, that is the point of them, but that impulsive 'have to have' feeling for me was more about the fact o was actively in the market to spend money and not think about needing vs wanting and whether it will get use.

I might just be boring. My last impulse purchase was pressing the boost on the boiler despite the heinous cost Blush

Last week: I LOVED it so much when I tried it on and I don't care if I'm at least 30 years older then the model. I rock this jumpsuit!!! Grin Can't wait for the weather to warm up to wear it.

Daisydoesnt · 05/04/2022 18:09

Curse you @londonmummy1966 - I've never heard of meher kakalia before but oh my their shoes are gorgeous. Wish I'd never looked now!!

namechangethesecond · 05/04/2022 18:10

I had this a couple of days ago for a jumpsuit I saw on ASOS. ordered it and now I'm filled with regret because it's due to be delivered by Evri and my slot has already changed from 1.30 to 6.30 today.

Thinkle · 05/04/2022 18:14

Ooh @Daisydoesnt that colour is exquisite! Feel free to challenge me on this but wouldn’t that look great with @Greyhare’s birks…

Redshoeblueshoe · 05/04/2022 18:22

Beguiling I love that dress

Ifeellikedancing · 05/04/2022 18:24

Scamp and Dude coulored leopard dresses keep showing up in my Facebook feed. They look fantastic, impatiently awaiting payday so I can purchase one.

Ifeellikedancing · 05/04/2022 18:26

Coloured even!

londonmummy1966 · 05/04/2022 18:27

@Daisydoesnt - sorry but they are fab. I would suggest you keep the receipt for the jumpsuit somewhere safe as Me & Em aren't great quality these days and their stuff seems to fray at the seams very quickly....

Xiaoxiong · 05/04/2022 18:31

I saw some black chunky platform sandals at H&M last week with straps like tevas that I'm sure I bought in 1999 at miss selfridge and wore till the Velcro died. Had to buy them, have worn them every day since (am currently on holiday), and have had so many compliments.

Anna197264 · 05/04/2022 18:32

@Allthesefolks I love the JL puff sleeve top. I feel this thread could be dangerous.

suckingonchillidogs · 05/04/2022 18:34

I ordered this from Seasalt the other day. It looks lovely on the model. I'll probably look like a deranged toddler.

OMG I have to buy that!
Daisydoesnt · 05/04/2022 18:34

@londonmummy1966 I’ve got a wardrobe rammed with me+em ….I haven’t noticed a problem with quality but I hope I don’t jinx myself!!!

Eminybob · 05/04/2022 18:44

All the time. I’m very susceptible to advertising.

Most recently some white converse with star studs. They are really nice.

MrOllivander · 05/04/2022 18:45

These trainers. Dune fit me so well, I'm obsessed with stars and they were half price Grin

OMG I have to buy that!
Eminybob · 05/04/2022 18:45

These

OMG I have to buy that!
Lovinglife45 · 05/04/2022 18:56

I cannot help but wonder what income one has to think nothing of buying tops for £150, dresses for £250, coats for £500 and so on. I assume their wardrobe consists of high end clothes adding up to at least £10k to £20k.
