How much grey (hair) do you have?

Just that.

I am mid 60s (but taken for being much younger- sorry but and looking younger runs in the family. Adult DD gets IDd all the time.)

Anyway- I've always had some subtle highlights in my dark blonde hair, and now that I've gone a shade deeper with them for more 'warmth' I'm a bit shocked at how much grey I have ( the grey always looked more like light blonde.)

Hairdresser says I am 50% grey.

:(

Not sure why grey is a problem?
It is simple enough to either hide it or adore it. I suppose we have a backlog of many centuries of social pressure to dread and fear it, but I say no thank you, I am happy to go with the flow of my age Smile

I say this as someone, late 40's, who hasn't a strand of grey yet, but worse - my light blond hair has grown mousy with time, and I was so looking forward to it going white like some of my older relatives.

Grey hair is quite beautiful, if you dissociate it from the brainwashing negatives, it stands alone, to me, as such a beautiful colour regardless the shade.

Also, why be sorry for looking youthful? I do, too, and I carry no shame!

bettertocryinamercedes · 01/04/2022 13:58

None yet I am 41

iklboo · 01/04/2022 14:00

100%. I really like it and I get compliments on it too.

Boood · 01/04/2022 14:00

I’m mid 40s. I have a narrow stripe up my temples, right at the front, that is 100% grey. The rest of my head has hardly any- definitely less than 5%. My dad was the same. Still had a fair amount of brown when he lost his hair to chemo in his 70s, and then it grew back white.

Quornflakegirl · 01/04/2022 14:00

I few on one side of my head, no more than 20 or so strands I’d say. I’m 43.

TonyThreePies · 01/04/2022 14:09

100% and I am 50. I get loads of compliments and have been asked if I dye it!

SusieAndTheBannedShes · 01/04/2022 14:12

I really don't want to get into an ethical discussion about embracing grey, not worry about looking old etc @LadyHenryofRawlinsonEnd.

I was doing a straw poll on how much grey women my age may have as mine seems to have escalated more in the past 12-24 months but then life's been stressful (if that even matters.)

I'm 57 with mousey brown hair and "natural highlights", probably 40% white, not grey. My mum went 100% white haired in her 60s, I guess I'm heading the same way.

JustGettingReady · 01/04/2022 14:18

Is grey hair not also linked to genetics? Both my parents have gone totally grey over the years (both now early 60's).

I noticed my first grey hairs in my late teens (I have very dark brown hair so they stood out Confused). Through my 20's into my 30's I've gone from dying my hair for fun to doing it out of necessity.

I'd say I'm 70% grey already and I'm not even 40.

nordica · 01/04/2022 14:19

I'm nearly 40 and have a fair bit around my temples now that has come in during the past year or so. It's more noticeable when I wear my hair up, and I have brown hair so it shows.

I love it though, I've always been mistaken for being at least 10 years younger so at least there is finally one thing that gives me some gravitas - tired of being mistaken for a 20-something in work contexts especially...

My mum is in her late 70s now and only has a very small amount of greys though, her hair colour hasn't really changed for 10 years.

Polkadotties · 01/04/2022 14:20

33 and none

Gonnagetgoing · 01/04/2022 14:21

I'm not that grey - it's in temples at sides - when I didn't have it coloured and let it grow though, I absolutely hated it so now it's coloured/highlighted!

Gonnagetgoing · 01/04/2022 14:21

Oh, I'm 50 and I got the grey in late 30s, so about 39.

Chasingsquirrels · 01/04/2022 14:22

I'm very nearly 50.
First grey hairs late 20's.

How much grey (hair) do you have?
MrOllivander · 01/04/2022 14:22

38 and none but my hair has changed colour a lot (redhead)

Thatsajokeright · 01/04/2022 14:22

I'm mid 30's and probably have about 15% grey. I have very dark hair so it's obvious in my hair; I have a very prominent streak at the front of head!

I love it. 👩🏼‍🦳

iwannascream · 01/04/2022 14:23

I'm 52 and have a full head of silver grey, light grey and dark grey hair. Most people ask have I had it coloured like that and are surprised when i tell them its natural. I have had sections of silver grey hair since I was in my 20's and just got fed up trying to hide it.

CMOTDibbler · 01/04/2022 14:23

I'm 49 and about 97% grey - just one little patch at the back that is holding out a bit more. The front is bright white and I love it

BrightOrangeOrange · 01/04/2022 14:24

I am 50 next and have none but I'm convinced the day I turn 50 they will start appearing.

TheFallenMadonna · 01/04/2022 14:24

All of it.

saggyhairyass · 01/04/2022 14:25

First grey hairs found in mid-teens.

Used to dye it. Now about 50% grey. I'm 44.

It's hereditary. My father and grandmother were both very grey in their 30s.

ditalini · 01/04/2022 14:28

I had virtually none until this year. Now I'd say it's probably 25% - I'm wondering if the rest will change as quickly but I've got about 3 separate colours and hair thicknesses in my hair and I think it's all the lightest bits that have gone white so maybe the rest will hang about for a bit.

I'm 50 so it's fair enough.

PickAChew · 01/04/2022 14:30

That's hardly a lot of grey for your age.

I'm early 50s and dark haired and probably about 25-30% grey. It looks dark and shiny with lots of sparkle and silver streaks when my hair is well conditioned but very beige all over with the wrong products.

evilharpy · 01/04/2022 14:40

Not sure as I dye it and never leave the roots to grow out for long but definitely a lot around the temples and hairline at the front, and my parting. I suspect about 50% of the front of my head is grey but I don't think there's much from the ears back, if you see what I mean. I'm 41.

Phillipa12 · 01/04/2022 14:44

Im 46 and 75% grey, absolutely love it.
