How much grey (hair) do you have?

SusieAndTheBannedShes · 01/04/2022 13:31

Just that.

I am mid 60s (but taken for being much younger- sorry but and looking younger runs in the family. Adult DD gets IDd all the time.)

Anyway- I've always had some subtle highlights in my dark blonde hair, and now that I've gone a shade deeper with them for more 'warmth' I'm a bit shocked at how much grey I have ( the grey always looked more like light blonde.)

Hairdresser says I am 50% grey.

:(

Mid 30s, my hair is dark brown but if you look close up you will see a few silvery greys round the front of my head. I dye them when I think it's getting a bit too much.

IheartJKRowling · 01/04/2022 19:32

Mid 50's and about 5% grey but my hair is dark blonde so they don't really show much. I had none until I reached 50, my Mum's in her 80's and she has virtually none. My daughter is in her 30's and has loads, her hair has skipped grey and gone straight to white. She says she's working on a "Cruella" stripe and doesn't give a , she's not dying it Grin

WhistlersandJugglers · 01/04/2022 19:37

(Very) late 40s and grey streak at the front and sprinkles throughout the rest. I got my first grey hair at 37 so it's a very slow process. I'm not colouring it yet. I hope I'll like it as it goes even greyer but if I don't I'd consider highlights to blend.

Gherkingreen · 01/04/2022 19:44

I didn't have any until I was about 43 and I developed a few white hairs literally overnight, just in one place, after I was very ill with a random case of pneumonia and sepsis.
Late 40s now, have a few grey hairs at my temples. I don't dye my hair at all, it's darkish brown, I don't mind the grey at all.

DancingChairs · 01/04/2022 19:46

I had a sprinkling of white in my late 30s, but I'm 41 this year and I've had some serious stress over the past 12 months that has definitely sped up the hair whitening process. I have light brown hair otherwise and I'm deliberating over dyeing it. I normally don't dye my hair at all, and am not keen on the upkeep.

I'm getting older. It's not a bad thing. I resent the idea that I'm only worth something if I appear youthful.

Kittykatmacbill · 01/04/2022 19:51

I am 42 around a third I guess and it’s more than doubled in the last couple of years for some reason. Can’t think why!?!?

orangeisthenewpuce · 01/04/2022 19:52

Few years younger than you OP. My hair is completely white.

ShadeOfMorningSun · 01/04/2022 19:55

Bloody loads and I’m only 35! They are rapidly increasing and along with the under eye wrinkles I feel I’m ageing far to quickly for my liking.

thanksamillion · 01/04/2022 19:58

I'm 43 and have been growing out the colour in my hair for the last year. Its almost gone and I'm pretty much fully white/silver. I get lots of compliments on it but people definitely find it hard to judge your age, partly I think because it's so unusual not to colour it (although getting more common I think).

Flittingaboutagain · 01/04/2022 20:16

I'm nearly 40 and have quite a few all over now. Enough that I can't just pluck them out now.

Ivyleagueless · 01/04/2022 20:21

I have loads and I'm 33. I wish I had the confidence to let it grow out naturally! I've always been very self conscious of my looks so I can't shake the worry of being judged. I also work in an industry that sadly still puts a lot of focus on looks and image.

I had an appointment with my GP last week who is only a few years older than I am. She has the most beautiful natural looking hair with a lovely big streak of white/grey at the front. She's inspired my confidence a little, I'm strongly considering going for it after seeing how much it suited her.

TheTurn0fTheScrew · 01/04/2022 20:28

none at 44
my face is wrinkly AF though, and I have a nice new surgical menopausal tummy, so I still look older than I am, sadly

foxlover47 · 01/04/2022 20:28

A few years back a hairdresser told me to stop dying it dark as I'm 100% grey ..
I now have it a really icy ash blonde to sort of blend and cover
Hate it feel I look so pale but can't be bothered to dye the dark every two weeks to cover it either
I started getting greys late teens

Stillmousy · 01/04/2022 20:28

I’m nearly 50 and have only a few grey hairs… my hair is a lot thinner than it used to be though. Looks greasy in the pic for some reason though it’s ok IRL Blush

EdgeOfSeventeenAndThreeQuarter · 01/04/2022 20:29

49 and none. My arse is the cross I bear.

atz333 · 01/04/2022 20:33

I just found 2 grey hairs on my left temple this week. I found them on the night before our 17th wedding anniversary. Great timing. I'm 36 and it has hit me a little that I'm getting older. I feel a little strange about it to be honest but it was bound to happen at some point.

Vapeyvapevape · 01/04/2022 20:35

I'm 57 and haven't got any grey hair yet. My mum is 87 and still isn't completely grey.

MrsMigginsCat · 01/04/2022 20:38

None and I'm 50 in a couple of weeks. DM, nearly 80 has only the odd grey hair too.

ShanghaiDiva · 01/04/2022 20:38

Was going to say 50, but looking at photographs it’s more like 70%.
I love it and wear much brighter colours now.

Frazzled2207 · 01/04/2022 20:41

Nearly 44 and have just a few strands.
A year ago I had barely any.

Mayhemmumma · 01/04/2022 20:42

I'm 38 - have one mega white stripe and lots of white highlights!

I grew it out in lockdown and like it, have a bit of blond put through my mostly dark hair to blend it and cut it over shoulders

TheYearOfSmallThings · 01/04/2022 20:46

Mid 40s and I have so much grey - probably 25% but it's hard to know because it is distributed oddly. If I had a fringe one half would be mostly grey, and the other half brown Shock.

I dye it.

OldTinHat · 01/04/2022 20:48

I'm 50, originally blonde but now have a lot of platinum grey. A lot! I don't colour it.

I was asked yesterday who coloured my hair because she wants hers to look like mine. I said Mother Nature!

And this after seeing a photo of myself taken last week and thinking maybe I should look at dying it!

BoodleBug51 · 01/04/2022 20:50

I'm 51 and would guess that mine is at least 50% if not more grey.

I made the mistake of having blonde highlights to blend it, and now have a mix of grey, cool dark brown (natural) and bleached straw.

Anna197264 · 01/04/2022 20:53

42 and get my roots done every 6 weeks. They are strong grey. I’m not ready to embrace it yet.
