@Serenster I suppose that they will likely have been inherited through the very close ties between Danish and Russian Royal houses at the time, so it’s quite conceivable that some of them will also have moved through Scandinavian and/or other European Royal houses through familial inheritances, or by marriage.

I find them quite adorable, they definitely appeal to my inner magpie!

Apropos of this general period in history, if you haven’t watched this series yet:

it’s a treat! Very interesting and brings history and all the (many) connections between today’s Royal families of Europe to life in a fantastic way.

HeyGirlHeyBoy · 17/04/2022 22:04

CliffsofMohair yes a version of it is in style but this version reminds me of someone trying out a style that's not for them and getting it wrong! Sorry Sophie!

I have been a lurker on this thread & love seeing all the lovely tiaras & jewels & fashion.
I thin Princess Lenore & Infanta Sofia both dress really well for their age.

KillingMeDeftly · 17/04/2022 22:54

Infanta Sofia is my secret style icon - I would happily wear some of the clothes she does!

paradyning · 17/04/2022 23:04

Fred this morning. Before Daisy swung round to pick him up.

Me too. Even if she is nearly 40 yrs younger than me.

@CliffsofMohair I always feel like Marie is the Sophie Wessex of Denmark and just gets on with things without the fanfare that Mary gets.

Joachim seems a bit of a lightweight and she seems to be the one that adds gravitas or raisin d’etre?

It's a miss for me on this one from Meghan. Fits so badly. I like the detailing but that's about it. She must have a deal with Valentino as this is the second outfit she has worn from there.

PolkadotsAndMoonbeams · 18/04/2022 07:56

It looks like the material is too stiff or thick or something in those pictures.

Maireas · 18/04/2022 08:00

I don't know how these clothing deals work, maybe you don't have complete say? I like her hair and the red lipstick, although it looks a bit formal for Invictus, unless it was another evening event.
The relaxed, less formal vibe works better, imo

It’s awful. Boxy, stiff, poorly fitting and does nothing for her body shape. Colour is a bit meh. You may be right about Valentino deal but their stuff is usually lovely?

Ooo love her sunnies. And her lip! The dress is hanging oddly though.
LadyEloise1 · 18/04/2022 08:20

Megan doesn't "look like herself" in those photos iykwim.
I saw the photos online and thought it wasn't her Blush

Is it similar to the deal Kate has with the Erdem and Emilia Wickstead do you think?

I think it's the red lipstick. She doesn't usually go for a bold lip. The dress is awful but her hair, makeup and sunglasses are good.
Maireas · 18/04/2022 08:44

Yes, I agree - her hair and make-up look great. I think a shift style dress is very difficult to get right. Even top end!

Maireas · 18/04/2022 08:57

Here's Meghan in another Valentino dress, at the Citizen Live event last September. An embellished white shift. I think this one looks slightly better, but it's a very tricky shape to wear. It must be a signature Valentino look.

KillingMeDeftly · 18/04/2022 09:00

I'm not a fan of either dress but the one from last year looked better. The photos from yesterday seem to be taken from above so maybe the camera angle made it look more ill-fitting than it actually was.

hopeishere · 18/04/2022 09:03

@Bellevu does Kate have deals with Erdem and EW? I think she pays for her stuff with a discount maybe but it means she can get it fitted to perfection. If you're just being given clothes to wear / borrowing them then they might not fit as well and you'd have to pay for fitting yourself. A lot of Meghan's stuff is badly fitting so I assume she is loaned it?

Maireas · 18/04/2022 09:05

Good point, @hopeishere. If clothes are just on loan, they're less likely to be fitted.

OP posts:
Serenster · 18/04/2022 09:16

In theory, Kate has to pay for all her clothes, she can’t be loaned or gifted them (in reality I suspect the price she pays reflects a generous discount for being a loyal customer and great advertisement for the brand, though, but that’s just my assumption).

I also wonder if a lot of Meghan’s clothes are loaned to her these days, particularly when she packs in a number of changes a day - as well as the white belted coat and the Valentino shift she also popped up in this pinstripe blazer and blue shirt yesterday. It’s a shame there weren’t many pictures of it, as it looks like the best of the three outfits on her.

I’m surprised she didn’t wear something Invictus branded in her time at the games. That seems a bit of a miss on her part.
