She's apparently in her late 20s but has that look of a woman who started fiddling with her face at a young age and now could be anything from 25 to 45!

There's a picture on the other thread of before and after she started fiddling with it, and if it weren't for her eyes, I'd have said it was two different girls.

I agree her dress is nice.

AdaColeman · 11/04/2022 14:48

Well, I found Nicola's wedding outfit rather disappointing. I think that the dress lacked the visual/style impact one would expect from a Valentino gown.

The different elements of the dress, train and veil didn't seem to come together as a unified look successfully.

The veil was beautiful, but the lace gloves were shouting "burlesque dancer"! Altogether, it looked to me more like a bridal pastiche, than expressing the bride's personality.

But they've been a couple for a while, and won't have any of the money worries that usually haunt young marrieds, so I hope they will be happy together.

I felt sorry for the lady in the zebra print frock, surely someone in her group must have noticed her knickers!

PolkadotsAndMoonbeams · 11/04/2022 15:28

Princess Anne is in Papua New Guinea now. She has a nice brooch with two little birds on in some of the pictures. I think I'm taking a fancy to brooches at the moment!

AdaColeman · 11/04/2022 17:06

Were they birds of Paradise Polkadots with long tail feathers? If so they are the national bird of Papua New Guinea, and appear on their flag.

A friend who has travelled the world in the merchant navy says PNG is the most dangerous place he has been too.

KillingMeDeftly · 11/04/2022 17:26

Your friend is not wrong @AdaColeman! I had family who lived there for a number of years who would concur. They couldn't even go out into the garden without alerting someone first as the threat of rape was so high. They also had a panic room in their house and had to use it onceConfused

AdaColeman · 11/04/2022 17:36

Oh I can believe that @KillingMeDeftly! He & some of his crew were taken in an armoured vehicles convoy to a guarded compound, to wait whilst they changed from one ship to another!

PolkadotsAndMoonbeams · 11/04/2022 19:28

That would make sense Ada, they do look to have long tails.

I like that green on Anne.

AdaColeman · 11/04/2022 20:18

Yes Polkadots, Anne’s brooch is a pair of Raggisian Birds of Paradise worked in gold, very pretty. They were named to honour Marquis Raggi of Genoa.
During Victorian & Edwardian times, all of the varieties of Birds of Paradise were hugely sought after for their plumes, for use in millinery, bringing a flash of colourful exotic beauty to every millinery shop.

The trade in BoP plumage was rightly banned in the 1920s, and these days the feathers are only used in tribal ceremonial head dresses, for which they are apparently obtained without killing the birds.

I know we often smile at the diplomatic dressing we spot, and I noticed that the floral wreath bestowed on Anne when she arrived in PNG was made in their national colours! So some one, some where is watching, and taking notes!

I like Anne in that green too, it’s a lovely fabric. I also liked Camilla in her sage green at Aintree on Saturday.

I’ve read that Admiral Tim is with Anne on this tour, but not seen any photos of him. You can’t beat a man in naval uniform! Wink

RomainingCalm · 11/04/2022 20:42

That's a very elegant look on Anne and like the green.

That’s David’s stepmother. It’s difficult when who you’re married to makes you a target for the photographers. There was a big deal made of Ted and Hilary turning up at the wrong entrance and being brought n a golf buggy to the correct door.
AdaColeman · 11/04/2022 21:39

Oh right @CliffsofMohair, I didn’t know who she was. She’s got quite a carefree hippy beach vibe going on with the animal print strappy top & draped skirt, and the pink fluffy handbag!

CliffsofMohair · 11/04/2022 22:24

You’d wonder why Victoria & David didn’t make sure they had appropriate outfits given how much press attention the wedding would receive. It seems unfair.

QueryA · 12/04/2022 15:54

Some more photos of Anne on her tour. The first ones a a bit long distance papped, but there are a few later of her giving a speach. The green dress mentioned above is nice, the cream suit looks a bit warm for Australia, and the trouser suits are neat and functional, if a bit boring

I rather like the cream outfit with the hat. I was just thinking that I hadn't seen may pictures of her tour.

I don't think Anne can be accused of being profligate with her clothing on this tour like Kate, it all looks like re-wears, possibly intentionally.
I love her apparent practical, no nonsense approach to dressing.

Eaumyword · 12/04/2022 18:26

So do I!

KillingMeDeftly · 12/04/2022 19:32

I think Anne's clothes are probably of excellent quality and therefore fairly expensive but you can't accuse her of not getting good value out of them. No 10 almost-identical green coats for her!

I wonder if she also gets them made with generous seams so they can be let out if needed? She's still very trim but I doubt she has exactly the same figure she did 40 years ago!

100problems · 12/04/2022 20:22

Love Anne! Hope her tour gets coverage. Must be so hard to follow the Cambridge's when you work so hard for so little publicity. She probably gives zero shits though.

Also VB, would love to have drinks with her. My ideal drinking buddy with Dame Joan, Kate Cambridge and Julian Clary.

StartupRepair · 13/04/2022 04:50

A friend of mine and her DC went to an evening function in Sydney where Anne wore a beautiful green dress. I can't share her photos but it looked lovely.

Maireas · 13/04/2022 06:27

Anne has done 20 engagements in four days. She's taken one assistant with her, packed her own suitcase, done her own hair and make-up, and stayed in low key hotels.
Also, we suspect, she's worn clothes bought from Susan Small in 1973 😉
