WWW's six week ten year younger bootcamp WEEK 1, 2008

This is week 1 of the first WWW 10year younger boot camp of 2008. Hello everyone.

Anyone can join, we promise it works and you will feel and look better - and maybe younger - if you follow these rules.

This is about being healthy and feeling and looking better as a result. It's not a diet (although weight loss does seem to occur fairly frequently)

THE RULES ARE:

  • Sunscreen at all times, even though it's winter
  • No or little booze in the week. Wine at the weekend is allowed if you want it
  • Walking is important, a small amount every day if possible. 30 mins if you can. Many of us have an Omron pedometer
  • Lots of water, aim for 2 litres a day
  • Apply body cream as often as possible
  • Use hand cream/foot cream too, we recommend Flexitol, which is fantastic stuff
  • Go to bed early, by 10.30pm if pos
  • Eat healthily
  • Be happy

The idea is that at the end of six weeks we all feel happier, healthier and glow with the good food, sleep, exercise, water and lack of sun damage.

Just adding this to my list. Am looking forward to actually sticking to it this time. I will step away from the sherry bottle.

Must divest self of Christmas name before end of 12th night too

PollyDolly · 06/01/2008 22:35

Ah, that's better.

Kazzia · 06/01/2008 22:37

Hello - can I join in?

I am partic intrigued by skin care regime as my face is looking like that of a woman who rides hard to hounds - ruddy and deeply lined. Since having kids I have gone really scraggy looking so am hoping to look a bit more peachy again. Only moisturiser in my house is Johnson's baby lotion but I guess that'll do for starters.

Haven't got operational pedometer yet but may have to rush out and get one asap. Where do you buy them?

Kazz xx

WideWebWitch · 06/01/2008 22:55

Amazon for pedometer. We need Batters and Marina to come and tell us about Eve Lom, v good apparently.

Must go to bed it's late! See you tomorrow all!

Eve Lom is fab. Just make sure you don't try to take the bargain bucket flying with you as hand luggage
I have quite annoying skin that revolts against luxe and budget products alike (Dr Hauschka brought me out in boils the evil German genius).
Once my beloved Vichy Reveil Matinal tonic was withdrawn from sale after 14 happy years I was adrift in a sea of compromise until I buckled and went for Eve Lom on recommendation from my dsis. Blag yourself some samples www, the staff are generally very good at offering them as they realise this could be your whole month's disposable income at stake...
I gather Liz Earle and Neal's Yard do similar balm cleansers btw
The rest of me may be fat fat fat but my chubby little face is gleaming and I have a skinny wallet

bamamama · 07/01/2008 03:13

hello all. Can we have recommendations for cheaper products too please (without turning this into another grooming thread). I am still without income and my inner puritain can't bring myself to spend money we haven't got on 'frivolities'
My reason for bootcamping in 2008 is to get fit. I seem to have good longevity genes - one grandmother got to 94 the other is still going at 97 - so I don't want to stuff it up and drop dead at 50 through plain stupidity.
OTOH I'd also like to do a big 'reveal' when we get back to Britain and generally look fab. (see, my default shallowness is still there!)

tortoiseSHELL · 07/01/2008 08:13

Hello, I'm in.

cerys · 07/01/2008 08:51

Morning all and a belated happy new year.

Last day of school holidays today, so am trying to think how to entertain my 3 lovelies on a rather wild and windy Welsh day.

Gained a few lbs over Christmas, too many Baileys, Toblerones etc. Went back to WW last week and have been following the plan and am back running again, so hoping for a loss on Wednesday.

Kazzia,I love Liz Earle cleanser with the hot muslin cloth, it's fab. I read it on here first! They also have kits with mini sizes so you could try without splashing out too many £££.

Bamamama, I like No 7 moisturisers too, but you are overseas aren't you, so that's probably not very helpful!

Yes, should point out that Eve and Aveda shampoo and conditioner aside, I am a budget consumer too - Boots no 7, like batters, and Nivea soft is a terrific budget body cream. I don't tone after cleansing batters, just make sure I rinse really well. London tap water suits my skin luckily
batters and winnie are my inspiration because of weight loss needs but I get lots of tips and laughs from everyone, so I'm very much bootcamping again this year

bamamama · 07/01/2008 09:18

Batters - if 34 days away from my 37th birthday is young then I'm happy to take your word for it!

Currently using up the last of the protect & perfect before roping in my sister to export some more. I'm thinking I may go and get some recommendations re make-up from someone who knows about these things. I do want to look more groomed and haven't a clue really. It also doesn't help that it's 34 degrees here so anything I do put on falls off my face! Any suggestions for red hair, blue eyes and pale skin??? [promises not to be so needy from now on].

Hi all - I'm back in, motivated by a relatively low alcohol / good diet Xmas (three weeks in Sydney, too hot to eat and my clothes seem on the loose side on my return - hooray!)

I have some Eve Lom cleanser (Xmas gift from 12 months ago) and would also recommend it - terribly pricey but a little seems to go a long way. Otherwise, I alternate between Nivea and Oil of Olay / Ulan SPF 15 moisturiser.

bama - can relate re the make up falling off face thing - had to keep all my make up in the fridge over Xmas - I'm convinced that UK products melt at a lower temperature than Australian ones!

does anyone have any solutions for jet lag? Experiencing it for the first time ever, not least because terrible DS woke me up at 3am this morning.....

Jet lag - you just have to get on with it - get back to "Normal" time asap and drink lots of coffee until 3pm to keep you awake, and none after.

bama - you need a tinted moisturiser rather than make up - I use this from estee lauder - it goes on grey and shades itslef to match your own skin, but with a lovely dewy glow. And it's got SPF and ant-oxidants as well. I don't tend to use it in winter as it gives one a slightly (ver slightly - I'm pale myself) sun kissed glow, but I imagine that wouldn't be a problem for you. And it smells of cucumber, which for some reason always cools me down.

Prufrock · 07/01/2008 14:41

My inspiration this year is that in october I will be having the mother of all parties to celebrate our 10th wedding anniversary. It will basically be the wedding I wanted before my mother turned inot bridezilla. I will be wearing something wonderful, and I want to fit into it and look better than I did on my wedding day (whih tbh won't be difficult).

JingleyJen · 07/01/2008 14:49

is it too late for me to join you?

My new years resolution is to take some me time - I have bad eczema and it is made worse by the fact that I don't do the creams and potions that the doctor gives me - as often as I should.

So won't be joining you on the products but will in essense if you know what I mean

Am off to drink some water and put on some cream.
Have walked 2 miles today and am feeling happy
am stepping away from the tin of chocolate biscuits bought for us this christmas!

Prufrock - Hmm little while till our 10th but that sounds an inspirational idea a little planning and I could have the day of my dreams! Hope yours goes well.

YeahBut · 07/01/2008 15:36

Can I join too? Desperately need to tone up! Have volunteered myself on the beginner runners thread too.

Well I am beginnng to purge myself of the sugar and alchohol of the festive period. Have been eating good food and hearty soups, drinking lots of water today. Have made a lentil moussaka for supper

unknownrebelbang · 07/01/2008 16:12

We got back this morning, but I'll be falling into the plan later in the week. After an overnight flight and all the Christmas chocolate we've been stuffing since we got back, I'm not in the best frame of mind for bootcamp, lol.

Still, here's the holiday report...

  • Sunscreen at all times - F30 most of the time.
  • No booze - apart from the odd swig of DH's lager, didn't have a drink all fortnight. (Halo emoticon required here).
  • Walking - approximately eight days in theme parks and three days walking around shopping malls amounts to a fair amount of walking methinks, didn't do much swimming in the waterpark though.
  • Lots of water, loads.
  • Apply body cream as often as possible, I did!
  • Use hand cream/foot cream too, I did!
  • Go to bed early, almost every night, was too exhausted to do anything else most nights!
  • Eat healthily. Now come on - Christmas, family holiday and America, land of fastfood the free, I can't work miracles I'm afraid. Was fairly sensible most of the time though, all things considered, even managed some fruit here and there.
  • Be happy - oh yes, great family holiday, plus as an added bonus, I saw loads of old episodes of MASH too.

Back to work (and maybe bootcamp) tomorrow.

moonmother · 07/01/2008 16:28

Can I join please my Dp's mum is getting married in May and it's quite a posh wedding.

I do most of the rules already apart from the eating healthy and drinking lots of water ...but am determined that I will look gorgeous and slimmer for the wedding.I am really naughty and drink alot of Pepsi,so am cutting way back on that(cutting down gradually as I get bad headaches if I just stop drinking it).

heres my list for today anyway:

  • Sunscreen at all times, even though it's winter-use nivea skincare with it in
  • No or little booze in the week. Wine at the weekend is allowed if you want it-I'm a vodka girl but only have the odd one here or there at weekends
  • Walking is important, a small amount every day if possible. 30 mins if you can. Many of us have an Omron pedometer-just bought pedometer today so far 13929 steps/6.37 miles, clever me for choosing a school outside my catchment
  • Lots of water, aim for 2 litres a day-have drunk just over a litre today so far(thats good for me )
  • Apply body cream as often as possible-daily after bath
  • Use hand cream/foot cream too, we recommend Flexitol, which is fantastic stuff-use calgel handcream it's great twice daily
  • Go to bed early, by 10.30pm if pos-lucky if I can manage till half 10
  • Eat healthily-so far today I've had a small bowl of porridge with a handful of raisins and 4 ryvita's with low fat cream cheese, smoked haddock and salad for dinner
  • Be happy-My Ds (4) is NOT a morning person but after his daily morning tantrum before nursery ,the day's got better

Here's looking to tomorrow

PussInBootsWithClaws · 07/01/2008 18:10

I'm going to join if I may.

  • No or little booze in the week. Wine at the weekend is allowed if you want it - don't drink
  • Walking is important, a small amount every day if possible. 30 mins if you can. - no walking yet today but going swimming later
  • Lots of water, aim for 2 litres a day - managed 1.75 litres so far today
  • Apply body cream as often as possible - every night

  • Go to bed early, by 10.30pm if poss - going to start on this one

ellesbelles · 07/01/2008 18:12

Right I am in! I had a few stones to lose before i got pregnant last year and now I have a few more to lose as well, so bring it on. Will dig out the pedometer and start on the water.

Can you get flexitol in boots?
