WWW's six week ten year younger bootcamp WEEK 1, 2008

WideWebWitch · 06/01/2008 21:56

This is week 1 of the first WWW 10year younger boot camp of 2008. Hello everyone.

Anyone can join, we promise it works and you will feel and look better - and maybe younger - if you follow these rules.

This is about being healthy and feeling and looking better as a result. It's not a diet (although weight loss does seem to occur fairly frequently)

THE RULES ARE:

  • Sunscreen at all times, even though it's winter
  • No or little booze in the week. Wine at the weekend is allowed if you want it
  • Walking is important, a small amount every day if possible. 30 mins if you can. Many of us have an Omron pedometer
  • Lots of water, aim for 2 litres a day
  • Apply body cream as often as possible
  • Use hand cream/foot cream too, we recommend Flexitol, which is fantastic stuff
  • Go to bed early, by 10.30pm if pos
  • Eat healthily
  • Be happy

The idea is that at the end of six weeks we all feel happier, healthier and glow with the good food, sleep, exercise, water and lack of sun damage.

helloooo everyone - sorry to hear your news unknown.

Well, we have a nanny now so I'm basically working full time (although I'm contracted for 4 days, I'm going in on Fridays when we're really busy which is err quite a lot of the time!) and today I returned to find the nanny had cooked supper! Hooray!

Anyway, I am going to need this thread because I am slowly but surely becoming Miss Fat Bloater as I'm now sat at my desk all day and not charging around after the kids. I think I have managed to put on 3 kilos (about half a stone) in the last month or so aaaarghhhhhhhhhhhhhh.

I need to find some time to exercise but I'm not sure where I'll find it.

Other than that, all is OK. Dh and I now only see each other properly once a week (on Sunday) which is very odd but it does mean we make more of an effort to enjoy the time together rather than snarling and sniping .

Well done batters...what an achievement!

unknownrebelbang · 09/01/2008 22:19

Good evening. Thanks everyone for your kind words.

DS2 now knows through school. He's discussed it briefly with DH (he did the schoolrun tonight) in a very matter of fact way. I tried to talk to him later, although I didn't mention it directly he knew what I wanted to talk to him about, and he didn't want to, so I've left it (again) for now. Will be keeping a watchful eye on them.

Not sure if the school will do anything specific. The pastoral care at the school is generally very good, and prayers will be said for L and her mum, other than that, I don't know.

unknownrebelbang · 09/01/2008 22:21

I am reading everyone's posts, but struggling to take in everyone's news at the moment, but can I just say...

WOW Batters! Well done!

WideWebWitch · 09/01/2008 22:30

Wow Batters, wow wow wow, well done. You are an inspiration to us all. I want to lose another 2 dress sizes, I will, I will...

lol at brief interlude, that's a fab euphemism Dino!

Well done to everyone and welcome to all new people, what a lovely busy thread. No time to post to all, apologies, must go to bed shortly.

Today
2 pieces white bread toast and marmite at work, not good
grapes
apple
raisins
cherries
mini moo piece of cheese
apple bar, 100cal
M&S soya bean salad, 150 cal
smoked salmon and cream cheese bagel, 500 cal
came in and ate some prawns in chilli thast were in the fridge, 150 cal
then had HUGE baked potato with cheese AND butter
never mind. No wine, for 4th night running
was asleep early last night
walking on commute, must get a battery for my Moron, no idea how many steps (done, just delegated that to dh)
And last night had a few pieces of G&B milk chocolate
and a banana at Euston last night, am v pleased that this is what I buy now when I'm hungry and about to get on the train

News on contract is that I have 78 working days til it ends but have agreed that I will stay beyond IF I can do one day at home asnd flexible timings, get later trains etc. If I stay in London one night a week too I think it could be bearable.

Job nearer home went to none of us who interviewed for it, went to someone who had previously worked for them and been made redundant, never mind. Am still looking

It's Thursday tomorrow! I am GAGGING for a glass of wine but will resist until Friday night. I do feel VERY happy despite commute, had a great day at work and life feels good.

Wow this thread is busy! Batters - that is amazing! What an inspiration to everyone. Fantastic!

Are we going to try and have a www's meet up after the last one didn't happen? I desperately need an excuse to come over to London (without children ), so would be very up for it!!! (I always feel grown up in London, and not a downtrodden mother!!!).

Oh dear, I made ice cream yesterday (it is all Hugh Fearnley-Whitingstall's fault with his chicken programme, I suddenly felt all 'Tom and Barbara Good ish' so used my lovely new ice cream maker to make some with our eggs. It is truly delicious, did only have a little bit (plus licks from the spoon while making it, but if I tell you what went into it - it is just egg yolk, sugar, full fat milk, double cream, vanilla. So not ideal bootcamp food really...

marina · 10/01/2008 10:14

LOL at torty's delicious sounding icecream. Would we get more ticks if we rubbed it in to our faces, with all that natural goodness
I sooooo wish we could have chickens
Unknown, I am so glad the school is likely to handle this sad news sensitively and well, that really does help
www - well at least you now know what happened with that job, it was a stitch-up really wasn't it Onward and upward with negotiating a kinder, less gruelling deal when the 78 days are up
FIS, terrific news about the nanny, what a load off your mind finally. Hope it works out well. Friends saw Raven in panto in Edinburgh and I have to report he was apparently pants. Dd refused to believe it was him in the programme because he was smiling and wearing tights
Dd has the will-it, won't-it cough at the mo batters and I am ignoring it too, not easy when she climbs into our bed at 2am and barks at us like a Gatling gun in Boden pyjamas, I am knackered...and ate some of my dsis's sabotage delicious Xmas cake last night, boo. But other than that, Moron is primed, leg muscles are twangling reassuringly with exercise increase, and Karen and Erin are leering at me from the DVD shelf at home, so am happy if somewhat baggy-eyed. Oh God, and I ate sprouting seeds for lunch yesterday, how gagtastic was that. They are bloody vile [bleurgh]

I have Strictly Come Dancersize (unopened but only bought yesterday) and a proven effective, vile but now knackered old VHS of the YHA's Fatbusters with sodding Anthea Turner

marina · 10/01/2008 11:20

So, er, really not anything Pilates dino

FooFooTheSnoo · 10/01/2008 11:26

We are the house of gloom. Mothers help has jacked in job already, leaving me two weeks to find an alternative childcare solution. DS at home ill and I am feeling distinctly queasy. DD going through a phase of waking up in the night or being 'challenging' to put to bed.

All in all feeling glum, knackered and lacking in bootcamp enthusiasm! Although I did have a plate of roasted veg and rice last night it was followed by one too many chocolate brazils.

bundle · 10/01/2008 11:30

Marina

do you think the Dancersize will work unopened?

please carry out trial and let me know results on Sat, xxx

winnie · 10/01/2008 11:43

Just a quick post: yesterday was ok although I feel like I am eating a lot as I have upped my fruit and veg intake. Today should be ok as I am working until 7 and no chance to go off the rails (although have already had to decline biscuits offered me).

lol at bundle and marina

FooFooTheSnoo, hope things improve soon

marina · 10/01/2008 11:56

Surely feeling resentful loathing of fit mature ladies in silver trainers burns off a few Kcals bundy ?
FooFoo, how awful. I'm really sorry to hear it's not worked out with the Mothers' "Help". Hope things improve soon
I agree winnie - bootcamping definitely easier when WOTH. After all, how many post-it notes do you have to eat to come near a nice slice of cake...

Yesterday and today - cycled in and out of work and ate reasonably well last night - DP made delicious chicken and couscous thing with pomegranate and walnuts (spot the christmas leftovers theme) and we had broccoli on the side. V tasty - but not as tasty as the cookies and cream Haagen Dazs I unearthed from the freezer and ate afterwards ... In bed by about half ten, though, knackered.

Today, taost and marmalade, grapes and a banana, and about to go up the road to Italian deli to eat something smothered in pesto and served in a ciabatta. Mmm (and hmmmn).

Ah, Batters, the divine Ms Lom - I swooned in her presence, let me tell you. Went for a facial there (her place is near Marylebone Rd) in September - (extremely generous) birthday present from DP, as I was newly pregnant, spotty and very fed up. It's pretty pricey I think (wasn't allowed to see the actual price but I'm thinking like £70) and I was a bit dubious beforehand, but it really did seem to make a difference - my skin was a lot clearer and fresher afterwards, and has remained so ever since. I'd definitely recommend (I use her cleanser already and find it fab) - only word of warning: the extraction bit hurt like buggery.

Ms Lom herself was splendid. She didn't actually do the facial, but was manning the reception desk because her assistant had followed a man to Australia (really), and was amusingly incapable of dealing with the computer. We ended up talking for about 20 minutes, and she gave me loads of up-duff-skin advice, and also told me I should eat red meat three times a week in a very continental aunt sort of way. She looked fabulous too - looked her age, but really, really good on it, rather than all tight and plastic.

anniemac, I am SO jealous of the chicken and haggis. Haggis is one of my very favourite things. Roll on Burns night!

L and S I have been toying with the idea of booking an Eve Lom facial - can I ask do you look battered afterwards? I have never had a facial - do I need to book for the end of the day so I can go home and hide?

Thanks for sympathy Marina - I am freaking out at thought of having to be super-efficient in new job whilst my childcare is in ruins at home.

LoveAndSqualor · 10/01/2008 14:42

anniemac, I've never had it stuffed in chicken, but can quite see how it would work - the calm deliciousness of the chicken and the spicy deliciousness of the haggis ... is there a recipe for it, or is it of your DH's invention?

FFtheS - I think it very much depends ... basically (and delightfully) on whether you have many blackheads/enlarged pores to begin with. I have quite a few round my nose and chin (not toooo noticeable in daily life - honestly ) on which the therapist woman went to work with a will - hence all the pain. So by the end my skin was pretty blotchy, and they suggest no make up afterwards. Would've felt quite self-conscious going into work afterwards, certainly - so if your skin's anything like mine, end of day is probably safer. All a lot calmer the following morning.

I power-walked 6k today - bloody Moron battery was a dud though, I got back to the car expecting at least 8000 aerobic steps and it was zero and flashing again. I used suitable language.

Then I had a slow 40 min walk with sniffy the wonderdog. Followed by a hot shower which hasn't quite taken the edge off my sciatica.

I have eaten toast & marmite, apple juice, 3 coffees, 1.5 litres of water +, rice salad, 3 coconut ring biscuits, pasta in tomato/basil sauce, rosemary foccacia & green salad, lemon pudding (I won't divulge the ingredients, it's far too shocking to be seen on this thread).

Lotions and potions all done, DH will give me another massage tonight. And I need lots of sleep.

I won the £250 sweatybetty vouchers competition so will have huge incentive to get fit again post-baby. Yippee!!!

Catch up with thread later. I have to listen to DD1 read. [shredded-nerves emoticon]

Iota · 10/01/2008 18:51

it's no good _ just haven't managed to get going on this at all this week.

WideWebWitch · 10/01/2008 20:56

Batters, it's a fab achievement, don't diss yourself Ooh come and tell us about wine, I know nothing about wine other than I like it a lot.

Tshell, wow, icecream sounds amazing. I liked Hugh prog, esp arsehole in Tesco, v funny. Am also envious of your chickens, as ever

Marina, hope it comes to nothing, sympathy on the lack of sleep and lol at wondering whether unopened dvds work. I think they're like ordered but uneaten salads

Dino, hope your lunch was lovely. at booze but also I am GAGGGING for a glass of wine. But will wait til tomorrow

Foofoo, oh NO re mothers help, what an utter pita. Nursery? Sorry, can;'t remember age of yours, they might be too old for that come to think of it. Sympathy on sickness and lack of sleep too

Winnie, well done on declining biscuits

Anniemac, another stern look on the booze front but well done on x trainer, fab.

Loveandsqualor, lovely story about Ms Lom and not being able to serve properly. Hmm, I've never had a facial in my life, hmm. Also - "the calm deliciousness of the chicken and the spicy deliciousness of the haggis ... " are you Nigella?

Sobernow, will read your blog with interest! YOu eat nothing, woman!

DofN, lemon pudding, mmm. Annoying about Moron, dh hasn't put my battery in yet

Iota, we can seeeeeeeeee you!

Medium day

2 pieces of toast with butter and Marmite, at home though so at least it was brown
apple
grapes
blueberries
1 stick of lil moo organic cheese
half a marmite sandwich
a lentil rice and aubergine salad from M&S
apple and sultana bar
not enough water, busy at work, just keep forgetting
walk on commute although it's prob not enough

and a WHOLE PE American Hot pizza just now, bollocks, that's got to be 900 cals. Dh just put it in front of me and I ate it, while ordering online from Ocado in haste to keep my slot for tomorrow night before it expired. Mindless eating in other words, sigh.

My manager has agreed to one day from home AS LONG as my team can be trusted by then. They can;t now but my word I am incentivised to make sure they become so. Not that I wasn't before but even more so now my day at home depends on it. May pay dobbing in money to anyone who keeps an eye on them for me (joking). Also she's agreed I can be flexible and consider the odd bit of work on the train etc as long as we keep it informal. I;m a contractor, it's ALL informal afaics, 2 weeks notice on either side etc etc. So I am pleased and I do think I'll be able to stay til June/July and, fingers crossed, take the summer holidays off with the children.

So all's (probably) well that ends well!
