WWW's six week ten year younger bootcamp WEEK 1, 2008

WideWebWitch · 06/01/2008 21:56

This is week 1 of the first WWW 10year younger boot camp of 2008. Hello everyone.

Anyone can join, we promise it works and you will feel and look better - and maybe younger - if you follow these rules.

This is about being healthy and feeling and looking better as a result. It's not a diet (although weight loss does seem to occur fairly frequently)

THE RULES ARE:

  • Sunscreen at all times, even though it's winter
  • No or little booze in the week. Wine at the weekend is allowed if you want it
  • Walking is important, a small amount every day if possible. 30 mins if you can. Many of us have an Omron pedometer
  • Lots of water, aim for 2 litres a day
  • Apply body cream as often as possible
  • Use hand cream/foot cream too, we recommend Flexitol, which is fantastic stuff
  • Go to bed early, by 10.30pm if pos
  • Eat healthily
  • Be happy

The idea is that at the end of six weeks we all feel happier, healthier and glow with the good food, sleep, exercise, water and lack of sun damage.

Hello everyone.

Sounds like a plan www! that grown adults cannot be trusted at work. It really irritates, even though I see evidence of it all over the place.

Batters, it is a fantastic achievement! And even more so that you have stuck at it, and are still motivated.

Foofoo, sorry to hear about the childcare. This is one area where I don't suffer too much with working p-t, and dh working shifts.

Congrats on winning Duchess.

lol at the unopened dvd.

unknownrebelbang · 10/01/2008 22:46

Batters, I'm feeling a bit better now I've seen the friend (one of the other mums) who informed me in the first place (we'd only communicated via email, always difficult in the circumstances). Her lad is really good friends with the girl, and it was reassuring talking to her and discussing the situation, even though she didn't really know any more, and still being able to laugh together.

Also relieved to know that L cried today at school. Of course, it was because "she was unwell", but it was somehow reassuring iykwim.

unknownrebelbang · 10/01/2008 22:49

Oh and bootcamp has taken a hike.

I'm still in America timewise, and we were all late this morning, so no exercise bike. Just about got younger two to school in time, although DS3 missed his sax lesson and he was upset. DS1 was about 20 minutes late, but he didn't really miss much.

Thankfully I work flexi, lol.

FooFooTheSnoo · 10/01/2008 23:02

I hav salvaged something from ruinous childcare situation thank goodness. Just have to break news to kids that things are changing again - kids are 5 and 7 www so it's after school clubs whcih I was trying to avoid - makes it a long day for reception dd but dp has rearranged hours so we only need three days. Bloody woman also cleans for me so that's another gap grrrrr.

DS poorly and has been lying on the sofa with me watching the West Wing very companionably with sick bucket and hot water bottle. It's as good an intro to American politics as anything! Am going to have to take day off tomorrow though - what's the consensus? Shall I admit to sick child but ability to do some work at home? Or pretend it's me (I actually feel pretty sick myself).

sweaty betty vouchers norks - although have won a couple of MN comps in my time so cant complain.

Sounds like a good plan www. I had the sumer off last year and it was really blissful - a very special time.

Well done to all who are fighting the temptation to comfort eat in the gloom of Jan.

bamamama · 11/01/2008 09:01

Hello all. How nice to see the board so busy and lets hope this isn't the equivalent of January gym membership. I say stick with it, in the last 24 hours the influence of bootcamp has made me turn down a dessert and put back the bar of chocolate I picked up whilst shopping. (thank you bootcamp!)

WWW, the work situation sound promising although it really does seem ridiculous that grown adults can't be trusted.

Bootcamping with renewed vigour here. Dh is on a mission to lose a stone in 6 weeks so it's a salad and no booze household (mainly). It is, however, Friday night here now and as ds has had a successful week at nursery and I've been able to make a start on my OU courses I will be cracking open the wine as I sign off!

Enjoy your weekend

marina · 11/01/2008 09:47

Morning all, well done on the chocolate refusal bamamama I have succumbed to a skinny latte and a low fat muffin this am due to oversleeping and then having to snorkel my way in to work - torrential rain in London and probably lots of other places too this morning, ugh
DVD still unopened but I was at choir practice last night y'know
Glad you have been able to speak to your friend now unknown and at DoNB's Sweaty Betty fabulous win - truth be told, you sound like the worthiest Boot Camp recipient just now, what with wearing out the batteries on your Moron even though you are With Child
FooFoo, if you feel rubbish, ring in sick on your own account. If you have got the norovirus, no one is going to thank you for bringing it to the office, remember - hope you all feel better soon
Dd still barking like a sealion so have colossal bags under eyes that even a pint of Flash Beauty Balm and chugging Evian yesterday seem unable to repair, alas and alack
Oh and eeek, it is my first Minimus (Latin Club) session at the dcs' school today . What if they hate it? What if they tar and feather ds for having such a dreary mum? Auguguguguugh

LoveAndSqualor · 11/01/2008 10:44

www - at Nigella - it's DP who's the culinary mastermind in our house (and he probably looks more like her than I do, too). He makes the food and I have developed a fine line in describing it (and eating it, of course).

Went for another swim last night and came home to eat tomatoes on toast and cheese and courgette souffle (courtesy of aforementioned DP). It was his first ever souffle, and he was extremely pleased (as was I). Steered clear of haagen dazs (admittedly because there wasn't any in the house) and had peppermint tea and a couple of liquorice allsorts instead.

Marina - it is bucketing down in London, isn't it? Couldn't face cycle into work, so caught the bus which took a geological age (arrived half an hour late, oops). And I was supposed to be having my hair cut at lunchtime but have cancelled it due to extreme grimness of weather.

Duchess, that's great about the vouchers! I'm determined to get fit again post-baby - perhaps we can spur each on.

And sobernow - Eve Lom stuff definitely on the pricey side, but it does last an age (and unlike any other skin product I've ever had, I actually use it to the end of the pot). I bought some of the cleanser reduced off ebay initially, but now will but it from the shops at full whack as it works wonders for me!

Am feeling a bit better today but ds still poorly. He's flaked out in bed while I do some work at home. Boss v understanding but it's hard when the job's new. Anyway don't think ds had the dreaded N virus as no sickness and diarrhoea although he feels nauseus on and off he does want to eat bits and pieces too. I's day three though with little improvement so not sure what to do next.

I'm being v poor on food front. It's been a stressful week and I just can't organise myself at the moment - was stuck in the house all day yesterday and will be today too.

bamamama · 11/01/2008 11:41

wine was lovely thanks . Could the gel throwing girl be identified by her un-coifferd (sp?) 'do'?
It's 10.30ish in the evening here and it's still 26 degrees. I'm not trying to be smug, it's just stupidly hot. Will sign off before befuddled typos sneak through.

winnie · 11/01/2008 13:45

hi everyone.

WWW, like you I am gagging for wine and thinking 'thank goodness it's Friday'

Duchess, you are an inspiration doing so much activity when you have the excuse of being pregnant

Yesterday was a good day generally.
Coming on here has reminded me I've not drunk any water today and made me grab the bottle of water out of my bag and start guzzling.

Enjoy the weekend. See you all again next week

TheDuchessOfNorksBride · 11/01/2008 20:19

www - that does sound like a good result, especially if you can take the summer off.
bama - what saintly behaviour
l&s - you'll get a 10-week headstart on me re: post-baby fitness! tbh I'm not sure how much I'll be able to do - I remember what those heavy b/f norks are like and running won't be on my agenda!

Todays exercise consisted of repairing wind-damaged pony shelter, putting electric fencing back up and squelching about in the mud. Was surprisingly hard work.

I've eaten muesli, apple, cherries, apple juice, 3 coffees, not quite enough water, vegetable soup, naan bread, another apple, chilli & pitta bread, a whole canteloupe melon . I've also made 4 ramekins of very dark chocolate mousse for tomorrow - note to t/shell, something else to make with your egg yolks!

And I have my car back.

Hope you're all enjoying your ewll-earned wine.

foxinsocks · 11/01/2008 20:23

ooh www, I love PE American pizzas.

Marina, hopefully, you are home by now having a glass of wine and celebrating how it all went. Lol at Raven. He is typecast now poor bloke. He'll be stuck in that role for years and we'll be saying 'ooh he's getting on a bit now' as the black leather trousers start to look too tight and he begins to look even more grumpy.

I waited for the rain to stop this afternoon and then went on a hour long cycle to and around Richmond Park which was lovely (if not harder work than I'd expected - but then again, I knew my fitness had gone). Forgot the time so had to go straight to school in my ridiculous padded cycle pants .

WideWebWitch · 12/01/2008 10:10

lol at padded cycle pants. Well done on bike ride FIS.

unknownrelbang, glad you've talked to your friend not surprised bootcamp has taken a hike

Foofoo, ah, I see. Is afterschool club so awful? Our is quite nice and they have clubs and stuff as well but ikwym. The lovely woman who is my cleaner has just this week started picking up ds twice a week and bringing him home with her son as well and feeding them and looking after them as WELL as cleaning the house. I am very pleased, it means he's only in after school club 3 times a week, although breakfast club every day. If I get a job nearer to home that might change too. And from Sept dd will be there too so that'll be easier. It is all very hard, this childcare stuff isn't it? Why did the other one leave? Are you paying enough? Where are you, London? I hope your ds is recovering. I'm glad your boss was understanding.

Winnie, good it reminded you about water. I am very pleased I didn't give into my longing for wine on Thursday, I would have been cross with myself if I had done.

DofN, that does sound like hard work, you are impressively active (and THIN!) for someone up the duff.

Bamammama, well done on turning down and puttng down stuff! Excellent, that must help, your dh being on a mission. Mine is a skinny tall man who can eat what he likes and not put on weight

Marina, I was caught in that too, washed AND DRIED my hair yesterday only to emerge from station with no umbrella. Grrr at the ten minutes when I could have been doing some other boring chore. I hope Latin club went well. I hope you get some sleep soon, poor dd.

VicSqual, souflee sounds lovely. Nigel Slater says they;re not hard to make but I've never tried. Well done on swimming.

Batters, wow at school being so dogged, that's good. I hope they find her. And well done at 5000 steps. How did the wine tasting go? We had some lovely wine last night, Macon -Lugny from Les Charmes vineyard according to the bottle (which I just picked up from next to the bin so I could tell you what it was) it was the first time in ages I've thought oh wow about the taste of a particular wine if yswim.

Sorry haven't posted past couple of days,my Ds(4) has a throat and water infection so been playing nurse .Luckily he seems to be lots better today

Been pretty good, haven't drunk as much water as I'd like to,but been having cups of tea instead of coke.
Walkings been a bit down as well as haven't had to do the nursery run,but still doing just over 4 miles aday taking Dd to school and back.

Food-wise been good too, mainly because I usually go shopping Thursday's but as son been unwell haven't had chance.I have been eating lots of fruit tho' and had a lovely veg stirfry last night.

WideWebWitch · 12/01/2008 10:19

Yesterday medium from a bootcamp pov

2 pieces toast, butter, Marmite, I've got to stop doing that but my shoulder was such agony before Christmas, so bad that I went to the dr who said she thought muscle strain but that if it wasn't gone after Christmas I should come back and have a chest xray (scared emoticon). I get a bit worried about back pain because my dad had a pain that a hospital dr said was muscular and it turned out to be lung cancer.

Anyway, hypochondriacal (is that a word?) anxiety aside, I think, and so does dh, that it's a combination of RSI from a LOT of typing at work (email queen that I am) plus a heavy bag slung across my body that I take to work. One of the things that makes it heavy is that I take my lunch AND breakfast in so I didn't 2 days last week and took a lighter bag. Had a brainwave though yesterday, thinking of getting Sainburys/Tesco to deliver TO WORK, oh yes, so I have all ingredients for healthy breakfast and lunches without having to lug it all for my long commute. I feel v pleased with this as a plan, must see if I can do it this weekend.
And I had a H&S desk assessment at work and moved my pc and keyboard around and it's a lot better. I had a laptop, which made me hunch but now it's connected to a big monitor and a sep keyboard so the pain has nearly gone.

Anyway, so
aforementioned 2 pieces of toast with butter and Marmite
tuna mayo sandwich for lunch, 455 cals
apple
packet of raisins
banana at Euston
plenty of water
Tandoori chicken
garlic naan
chana masala
a bit of lamb tawa gost
Rose Cava
wine
some Smarties

And fell asleep on sofa reasonably early. We watched a dvd of Ricky Gervais doing stand up which was very funny.

Happy weekend everyone!

Prufrock · 12/01/2008 13:42

Oh but I'm feeling like crap. But I'm still being good. I think I've hit that wall that comes after 4/5 days of detoxing, and I've got a horrid blocked sinus headache behind my left eye- but I'm determined to carry on. I will feel better and full of energy soon.

So Thursday
Exercise: 1 dog walk to school, 20 minutes cardio, 100 sit ups, 5 minutes yoga

Food: 3 cups coffee, 1.5l water. Granola with skimmed milk, parma ham, parmesan and roasted asparagus salad, tomato juice, few grapes, tom yum soup with prawns and mushrooms

Prufrock · 12/01/2008 13:48

Friday
Exercise: nothing - I fell over taking out the veg peelings to the compost bin. Unfortunately I was carying them in a glass bowl, which smashed, and my hand came down on top of it, so I have 8 quite deep cuts on my palm and spent half an hour puling glass splinters out. And I came down on my bum and already have a huge purple bruise. But it's feeling better now and I can now flex all my fingers.
Food: 3 cups coffee, 1l water. 1 glass Pomegranate, acai and blueberry smoothie, advocado and pine nut salad, smidge of cheese, 2 slices salami, lamb steak with pepper, onion and tomato stew. Peppermint tea.
I've been wearing sunscreen religiously, and nail oil, but need to do something about my body skin - so when dh gets back tonight I might treat myself to a steam and scrub and see if I can persuade him and the kids to slather me in cream - ds is only 3 but quite good and back rubs

LoveAndSqualor · 12/01/2008 18:23

Prufrock, bloody hell, owch! am wincing at my screen. Hope you're ok and people are fetching and carrying for you.

WWW, stylish it is not, but have you tried using a rucksack rather than a shoulder bag? I get terrible pain in my neck and shoulder carrying a heavy bag, and typing definitely exacerbates it. Desk assessment sounds good though.

DofN, agreed, I'm thinking post-baby fitness will most likely translate into post-post-post-baby fitness ...

Had a thai takeaway last night in front of series four of The Wire, chicken and cashew nuts, boiled rice and chinese broccoli, so pretty medium in terms of health, but high on taste ... In bed by half ten, too.

Today, yoghurt and muesli for breakfast, followed by a swim (40 lengths!), lunch at the farmers' market (bacon roll and coffee, bad but Delicious) and an errands-and-shopping sort of walk (which annoyingly ended up with my knee suddenly twinging like buggery (why? why?) and me hobbling home). This afternoon, cleaned bedroom and bathroom with vigour and vim, and ate more yoghurt and muesli and half a slice of christmas cake. DP and I are going out for dinner, so it will probably be steak, hopefully some vegetables and possibly even a glass of wine ...

Have lovely saturday nights, one and all

PollyDolly · 12/01/2008 19:39

Prufrock, I am ow-ing on your behalf! That sounds very sore, you poor thing. Glad it seems OK though.

Have had a good day today but kids a bit out of sorts so everything for them was a bit of an effort. Did some walking, drank lots of weak tea talking to the cleaner who came to paint the DDs' bedroom, lots of body cream and flexitol as well. Had wine last night after 4 days off (something of a personal best for me other than in pregnancy) and felt very fuzzy headed this am. Still it was great at the time.

Don't mean to let the side down....but would alcohol free beer be allowed during the week? I get sick of tea, fizzy water etc and sometimes a cold beer would just hit the spot. Hope I don't get expelled for this!

Hope you are all having nice restful weekends and are high on the happiness quota

TheDuchessOfNorksBride · 12/01/2008 20:25

pru - ouch! Food sounds lovely though and I'm impressed with your sit-ups.
l&s - 40 lengths - marvellous.
PD - I wouldn't like to proclaim on the beer but if it isn't alcoholic...

I have no energy at all today. Woke up late and faffed about doing not very much until DD1s swimming lesson. Faffed about before and after lunch. Fed animals. MN'd. Made dinner. And I'm sitting here yawning my head off! Early night me thinks.

I've eaten a crumpet with butter, apple, vegetable soup (it was horrid), naan bread, shortbread biscuit, handful of cherries, orange, macaroni cheese & baked tomato and after I've taken the hay out to ponies I will either eat Green & Blacks White Chocolate bar which has been in fridge since DH came back from London on Wednesday, or the other Canteloupe melon. 2 coffees, orange juice, half a glass of coke but less than 1l of water.

And my cars suspension isn't right so it will have to go back to garage next week. I'm not sure my sciatica will stand further use of the mechanics 'on the floor' Rpver so I may have to hire something. Or be like my mother, her garage door broke once and she couldn't get her car out so she walked straight to the nearest dealership and bought a new one!

WideWebWitch · 12/01/2008 20:30

DofN, yes, buy a new one, go on!

L&S, 40 lengths most impressive, wow.Yes, have thought of rucksack, may get one

Prfrock, omg, that sounds HORRENDOUS, you poor thing.

Pollydolly, of course alcohol free beer is fine, it's alcohol free!

Sobernow, 6lbs is nothing. Gosh, you graze on not much though, v impressive

OP posts:
WideWebWitch · 12/01/2008 20:33

I have had shite day from bootcamp pov

boiled egg and 1 piece toast SLATHERED with butter
roast chicken inc crispy skin
parnsips
roast potatoes but in their skins at least
carrots
green beans
broccoli
peas
gravy
wine
2 sausages in 2 hot dog rolls
and about to have more wine
am knackered though so it should be an early ish night.

We all just watched Sky High on the projector in our bed, I like that film. Happy weekend everyone.

OP posts:
Prufrock · 12/01/2008 20:54

www - that sounds more workable. I'm hoping and hoping that dh moves jobs at end of Feb. He'd definately be off for 3 months but might be forced to take 6. He and new co. would hate it, but I'd love it. Are you going ahead and buying the eee.

On the nice wine - try Laithwaites. You can order onine, and they send you a case or half a case however often you specify, with mixed wines with tasting notes attached. It's a great way to introduce yourself to drinkog seriously (meant in a quality rather than quantity sense)

marina - how did minimus go? I'm so envious of the children you will be teaching - I would have loved to learn Latin - I actually started teaching myself once from those orange books but didn't get very far.

Duch - lol at your mother
