WWW's six week ten year younger bootcamp WEEK 1, 2008

WideWebWitch · 06/01/2008 21:56

This is week 1 of the first WWW 10year younger boot camp of 2008. Hello everyone.

Anyone can join, we promise it works and you will feel and look better - and maybe younger - if you follow these rules.

This is about being healthy and feeling and looking better as a result. It's not a diet (although weight loss does seem to occur fairly frequently)

THE RULES ARE:

  • Sunscreen at all times, even though it's winter
  • No or little booze in the week. Wine at the weekend is allowed if you want it
  • Walking is important, a small amount every day if possible. 30 mins if you can. Many of us have an Omron pedometer
  • Lots of water, aim for 2 litres a day
  • Apply body cream as often as possible
  • Use hand cream/foot cream too, we recommend Flexitol, which is fantastic stuff
  • Go to bed early, by 10.30pm if pos
  • Eat healthily
  • Be happy

The idea is that at the end of six weeks we all feel happier, healthier and glow with the good food, sleep, exercise, water and lack of sun damage.

What's cod been up to??

PollyDolly · 07/01/2008 19:39

Hello everyone! What a busy thread! Welcome to all the new people

Bama, I know nothing about make up and have worn the same look for about 10 years, with an assortment of products. Eyebrow pencil (or I have none as I am pale), eyeliner, mascara, bit of blusher and lipstick. Oh and vat loads of touche eclat. If you are a redhead, would brown mascara and clean colours suit? I have always fancied a go in Selfridges at a make up counter as it's free and I believe they don't make you look like a man in drag any more. Would that be an option in your down under dept store?

Foofoo, sorry you are feeling low today. As for your dishwasher, have you turned it off at the mains and given it 24 hours rest? Mine died just before Christmas and after doing everything in the book, I unplugged it with a view to getting the engineer round. About 2 days later, I plugged it back in so I could give it one last chance and it worked! Hope you feel better tomorrow.

Hi unknownrebel, glad you had a good time.

Ellesbelles, you can indeed get it in boots - bought another tube today. And some clear nail varnish so I could look more groomed

Hello everyone else, hope you are all well and happy.

Walked back to Waterloo through Covent Garden and bought loads of stuff in Monsoon for the kids with 70% off. I am done for little girls' birthdays til about August. I love a packet of hairslides, even if they are not for me. And amazon emailed to say my Moron is en route. Fantastic.

Am staying away from the sherry bottle, having grilled pork and broccoli for supper and some soothing peppermint tea. I might even be in bed this side of 11!

WideWebWitch · 07/01/2008 20:39

Right that's everyone greeted I think!

Not a great day, dh forgot to turn the alarm on so I woke at 6.30am, which is when I usually leave the house so I didn't even have a shower (did have a bath last thing last night though) and just raced out of the house. Thank goodness the trains were all late and so, despite waking up 45 mins too late I made it to my desk FOUR MINUTES later than usual, at 8.34am. Be impressed. I felt like shite but never mind. And I did think as I raced towards the station, 6.30 is a LIE IN? A LIE IN, FFS.

Consequently I didn't make my granola although did grab the packed lunch from the fridge.

SO, breakfast was 2 pieces of white bread toast with butter and Marmite at work. It was lovely.
lunch, smoked salmon sandwich
apple bar, 100cal
Wotsits, 100cal
grapes
er that's it, blimey, hadn't realised I'd eaten so little.

then just had cod in proscuitto, it was lovely. Recipe if anyone wants it, it's one of my best fast suppers although not low fat really but v delicious and still quite good for you, it's Jamie.

get 2 cod steaks, wrap in proscuitto
lay on a bed of green beans
scatter lemons and garlic in its skin over
drizzle with olive oil, season with salt and pepper
add cubes of potatoes if you want to
cook for 30 ish mins
it's lovely.

second night of no booze
showered when I came in, body lotion all over
forgot sunscreen, I MUST get better at that
went to bed too late last night, must improve on that too
walked on commute but it's nto enough I fear

But I feel happy, brought ds home with me tonight and cleaner starts again tomorrow.

Hello all, far too many posts to comment but whoever asked about Flexitol, yes you can buy it in Boots - it's usually next to the Scholl medical foot products rather than in skincare dept.

I've eaten muesli, apple, cherries, sardines on wholemeal toast, shortbread biscuit, apple, chicken & sweetcorn soup, bread & butter, more cherries and a handful of plain nuts. Lots of water and 3 coffees.

Ended up with all 3 DCs home today as DS1 is now coughing too. So very little exercise. I have put a new battery in my Moron though and I've found the instructions so I can reset it (what a bore)!

Ocado delivery coming tomorrow - it is saintly I tell you!

Prufrock · 07/01/2008 22:22

Exercise: 20 mins cardio, 100 sit ups, 1 dog walk to school

Food: 3 cups coffee, 1 peppermint tea, 1.5 l water. Granola (I don?t weigh mine) with skimmed milk, smoked mackerel, salad leaves and cucumber, grapes, lamb shank with tomato/pepper stew, quinoa (tastes like crap).

Tonight I went to bridge class and refused coffee and the most delectable looking biscuits. And I'm going to bed as soon as I finish this.

Prufrock · 07/01/2008 22:29

Oh no www - no granola!

Party will be here. Even my dh would baulk at flying 150 people to Barbados. We're thinking gorgeous country hotel, drinks, canapes, dancing to cheesy tunes and maybe a hog roast to soak up the alcohol. And a group of babysitters and lots fo dvd's so the kids can be involved but not need to be entertained by the adults. Oh and me floating about looking wonderful. And only the people we want there- no dotty Aunt Gladys - in fact probably no family at all. I'm sure I will be asking for Mumsnets help nearer the time.

Duch - at least you didn't have to traipse to school.

welcome to all the newbies - I would like to refer you to past threads though. It's alright to be all bright and shinily iron willed on Mondays, but by thursday we expect a certain level of slothliness to have crept in and anybody still being good will be treated scathingly (and jeoulously)

TheDuchessOfNorksBride · 07/01/2008 22:40

quinoa - did you rinse it really, really well? And did you cook it in veg or chicken stock? I love it, very nutty and carby without being er, carby.

bamamama · 07/01/2008 23:40

Pru - thanks for the tip re EL moisturiser (although how this can be described as 'fun' is beyond me)

I too have a tenth wedding anniversary in October. I suspect it will coincide with my OU exams though. Should maybe think about a party as we got married in Vegas so deprived everyone of a 'do'.

Quinoa is lovely btw, as the duchess says the secret is in the stock.

Hello all you lovely people
The New Year has started well for me with my Moron dusted off and I've lost 4lbs in the last 7 days on our regime (and I got drunk on Saturday night ). So I am feeling enthused and motivated. I will try and catch up with everyone in the coming days (between working )

Countingthegreyhairs · 08/01/2008 09:42

May I join too if that's OK please?

Started a similar regime yesterday of my own accord and then stumbled across this thread this morning.

Need to tighten up on all aspects of my health and fitness - particularly sleep - after a tough year fuelled by coffee, red wine and carbs.

Have also decided to treat myself to a new make up bag and contents. (I've had my old one for years and it's starting to look really yuk. Found a few eye shadows lurking at the bottom which must be circa 1992 ... .)

Thanks for tips WWW and good luck everyone.

Batters, I am sorry you and dd were attacked. How awful. Good for you that you've not ignored it.

Well done on the cross trainer and the walking

Dinosaur, why is home-made pasta sauce 'not exactly healthy'?

marina · 08/01/2008 12:20

batters that's dreadful. They weren't from D were they? Eeeek. Hope you are both OK but there is a certain absurdism about hair gel as a weapon of terror I suppose
Dino, please mail me your new work addy! Are you still on for 12th in the evening?
Forgot my Moron too but did my powerwalk stuff and must remove ironing and Sylvanian families lair from exercise bike tonight and follow batters example

Thanks all feeling a bit better today. January is grim. Was v good until about 8.30 last night when dp brought me a glass of wine did manage to stop at one though and had been extremely virtuous all day in the face of much temptation at work (no boot camps here - everyone is misery eating).

Porridge, soup and satsumas here so far - onwards and upwards!

Welcome all the newbies and boo to Batters' attack!. Prufrock your party sounds fabulous - in a couple of years' time dp and I will hit the 20 year mark and I plan to have a big party too.

TheDuchessOfNorksBride · 08/01/2008 14:05

Batters - you marvellous thing! Calm reaction, followed it up and you've done 5000 steps already and you've been on cross-trainer. Superb!

Will report on my day later but just wanted to say, whilst lots of new joiners are about - this thread has given me so much motivation. I really became quite obsessed with my daily Moron score (in a good way) and logging my daily exercise was always a spur too. The constant reminders have proven particularly effective with regard to drinking water and using handcream - being an outdoorsy sort I usually have dry, chapped and often bleeding knuckles through the winter, but not this year.

Whispers v. quietly (because F&Z and WMMC are having such a bad time of it) I think bootcamp may have more than a little to do with the fact that I am now having the most fantastically healthy pregnancy. I feel tremendous!
