WWW's six week ten year younger bootcamp WEEK 1, 2008

WideWebWitch · 06/01/2008 21:56

This is week 1 of the first WWW 10year younger boot camp of 2008. Hello everyone.

Anyone can join, we promise it works and you will feel and look better - and maybe younger - if you follow these rules.

This is about being healthy and feeling and looking better as a result. It's not a diet (although weight loss does seem to occur fairly frequently)

THE RULES ARE:

  • Sunscreen at all times, even though it's winter
  • No or little booze in the week. Wine at the weekend is allowed if you want it
  • Walking is important, a small amount every day if possible. 30 mins if you can. Many of us have an Omron pedometer
  • Lots of water, aim for 2 litres a day
  • Apply body cream as often as possible
  • Use hand cream/foot cream too, we recommend Flexitol, which is fantastic stuff
  • Go to bed early, by 10.30pm if pos
  • Eat healthily
  • Be happy

The idea is that at the end of six weeks we all feel happier, healthier and glow with the good food, sleep, exercise, water and lack of sun damage.

Duchess, thank you for the welcome! cycling is definitely plenty of exercise: I seem to have reached stage of wanting to sleeeeeeep the whole time. I am full of admiration for your fruit consumption, btw - I've never really been a fruity type, even as a child. I'm always a bit nervous of it, in fact: esp things like satsumas and so forth, which can be either delicious or grim - and no way of telling until you tuck in ...

unknownrebel, so sorry to her about your ds's classmate. Hope he's ok. Will the school be tackling it in any way?

All fairly healthsome so far today: new leisure centre has opened round the corner from me in Hackney, so dp and I went for a small swim last night (he in the slow lane, me, to my pride and surprise, in the medium!) and then came home to eat vegetable, lentil and bacon soup. And pitta bread. Oh, and oatcakes and cheese. Toast and marmalade and banana (a reliable fruit ) this morning, and am generally an oil-slick of unguents at the moment, attempting to keep wintery pregnant skin from drying out completely. It's like oiling the Forth Bridge, though, sigh.

  • Sunscreen at all times, even though it's winter - nope. deffo no sun here.
  • No or little booze in the week. Wine at the weekend is allowed if you want it. sorry this didn't work either - lots of red wine last night after editing my programme!
  • Walking is important, a small amount every day if possible. 30 mins if you can. Many of us have an Omron pedometer. where can i get an omron from?
  • Lots of water, aim for 2 litres a day. no but have had smoothie yum.
  • Apply body cream as often as possible. hmmmm
  • Use hand cream/foot cream too, we recommend Flexitol, which is fantastic stuff - CALMURID RULES - EVEN BETTER (more expensive but i got a freebie)
  • Go to bed early, by 10.30pm if pos - kind of.
  • Eat healthily. intend to. today...
  • Be happy - trying!

unknownrebelbang, how dreadfully sad. FWIW, I think your approach with ds is exactly the right one.

WWW, your commute does indeed sound hideous. I hope today has been better.

Batters, how much weight have you lost overall (you don't have to answer that ). You sound very focused and I know that you've done extremely well over the last year. Are you enjoying the cross trainer yet?

Today I am eating homemade lentil soup I brought into work, carrot sticks and mandarins for lunch... a bit of an orange thing going on I am trying to get back into limiting my bread intake to two slices/one roll etc a day. It is going ok but I know I am going to have to remain organised to bring lunch in and not have a sandwich. Yesterday I ate 11 portions of fruit & veg and it just feels greedy but it was fab.

What I need to now concentrate on at the moment is upping my MORON count again; upping my water intake again; and slapping on the sunscreen even though it's January.

Have a good day all

Wow!! Batters that is amazing. You are doing so well... Good for you. That is fantastic! You are my inspiration

The going got too tough for me last year with dd (excuses, excuses) but this bootcamp is the 'easy' way of doing it & my aim really has to be to learn to deal with stress without scoffing my face. Thoughts of you will keep me focused

cerys · 09/01/2008 13:08

Lost 4lbs

marina · 09/01/2008 14:02

4lbs to six stone, it's all achievement, well done to everyone batters, I am dumbstruck with awe, I hope dd is super-proud of you, you deserve it
forgot Moron again today and busyness at work has meant no lunchtime walk but am going to take a late lunch and do it anyway
OKish day yesterday but not a particularly happy one IYSWIM.
Agree it is so fab to see this thread so packed with old and new posters
I know two babies born on NYE JJ, but have not managed to get my mitts on them yet
Waves at cerys, winnie and co, sends huge commiserations to unknownrebel and congrats to sobernow and scampers back to spreadsheet

luckylady74 · 09/01/2008 14:18

Hi - hope it's ok to join today because i had to test out this morning if i could do it or not!
Sunscreen and creams - yes, but i am a novice to this and last year was the first time i'd used anything other than sun cream and body lotion - never used anything on my face before my last birthday.
Eaten lots of fruit today and no rubbish so far. i can't drink alchol because i'm on medication, but i'm still tempted a lot.Have drunk 3 pints of water so far.
Exercise - ordered my pedometer, did the round school run in 20 minutes instead of usual 30 (pushing 5 stone of twins!) and managed 15 mins on cross trainer- fist time i've used it in 2 years .
Happy - yes indeed - my new ipod has upped my mood lots, but it's the twins turning 3 and starting preschool that have made me very bright - 2 mornings a week to myself - i didn't realise it would make such a differance.
Bed early - 1030 last night.

LoveAndSqualor · 09/01/2008 14:39

Batters - that sounds like the one, indeed - very near Clissold Park. It opened and then had to shut again (just about when we moved in round the corner) because the swimming pool was sinking into the ground ... ! The architects, I imagine, were very proud. It's been heaving since it reopened, which is very nice - loads of stuff for kids and mothers and babies too, which I plan on taking advantage of.

And my word, six stone!! that is genuinely fantabulous. I am awed.

Just eaten three sesame bars (not snaps: bars. think mars bar length). Good job typing requires fingers, not speech: I need to find a chisel to prise my teeth apart.

Prufrock · 09/01/2008 15:02

batters well done - will I recognise you if I see you again?

lucky - make the most of it - it won't be long before you startthinking " oh no, where di the morning go to" when it's time to pick them up.

unknown how awful - have you told your ds' yet?

sobernow - how exciting - where is your blog - can we read it?

www - but how many more days left on teh contract? And did anything happen with any of the nearer to home jobs?

bundle - damaging rays can still get through. You must wear sunscreen. (I'm still having to take over from www occasionally as chief bollocker)

LoveAndSqualor · 09/01/2008 15:18

Cam I ask a sunscreen/moisturiser question? I tend not to use much moisturiser after a skincare person (in fact, twas the divine Ms Lom herself - had an Eve Lom facial as a bday present and she was there!) told me that it was clogging up my skin (think she was right - I get far fewer spots now). However, I could definitely use some wrinkle prevention, esp as I have very fair skin. What do the spot-prone among you use?

LoveAndSqualor · 09/01/2008 15:38

can, obviously

bundle · 09/01/2008 15:40

prufrock

a dermatologist told me you can't even make vit D between oct and march..so I don't bother

marina · 09/01/2008 15:50

LoveandSqualor, I struggle with facial sunscreen and zits too, and I tend to agree with Eve (I did hear that she for some years did not even have a moisturiser in her range because she thought them unnecessary, that might be apocryphal though).
I wear Origins Perfect World White Tea moisturiser, which my skin loves and which can be used night and day, and rely on a sunscreen foundation for protection. Boots no 7 works well for me and is factor 15, adequate for scurrying about on concrete walkways in the winter...

LoveAndSqualor · 09/01/2008 16:19

Hey marina - thanks. I like Origins stuff - will give the White Tea a whirl (I seem to remember trying a sample of it a while back and liking it) and stick to foundation - doubtless ample at this time of year (I am looking out of the window at roiling black clouds and doubting the very existence of sun).

Prufrock · 09/01/2008 16:27

Yesterday Exercise:, 1 dog walk with kids

Food: 3 cups coffee, 1 peppermint tea, 1 l water. Granola with skimmed milk, smoked mackerel fillet, tomato juice apple, beef and bean and barley stew.

I was so pleased with my ability to change my habits - watching the kids swimming lessons yesterday I had an apple and a bottle of water, rather than the coffee (with sugar to hide the rank taste) and chocolate cookie I would normally have.

Day 3 from me

Sunscreen,no booze, body cream, hand cream and being happy all sorted

Walking-I've not done so many today as only had to do school run twice as Ds has a water infection ,so isn't at Nursery so only managed 10326 steps/4.72 miles today.

Water - I've managed to cut the Pepsi down to only 2 glasses a day and hopefully by the end of the week will be able to cut it out completely without headaches. Then I'll only drink it with my Vodka .I've managed to drink 2 litres of water today,I just carry a bottle of water about constantly ,it helps me remember to drink more.

Food-
Breakfast-bowl of porridge with a handful of raisins
Snack-slice of melon and handful of grapes
Lunch-Bowl of celeriac and carrot soup with a small roll
Dinner-grilled chicken breast and a big pile of steamed veg.(and it was yummy)

And due to Ds waking a couple of times last night as he was poorly I will be in bed way before 10.30 tonight.

I am actually enjoying this...the one question I have though is will I keep enjoying it?????

PollyDolly · 09/01/2008 19:23

i hvae just typed a huge poist and lost it all... no time to redo as I HAVE to do some work before I get shouted at. Unknown, i am so sorry to hear about your son's friend's mother. The poor woman, she must have been so sad. Poor family too. Batters, I am shocked at your assault. How old were the girls who did this? And was it on a busy street in full view? SOme of the teenagers at the park terrify me.

Well done to all the pregnant people, putting me to shame. Am broody too hearing about the babies. A friend of mine is due in 2 weeks and I am soooooooo excited. Am OK on eating and drinking, plenty of water and walking too but sleep is awful as DD1's sleep is still shot. ONly got 5 hours last night. Am very happy though in spite of this.

TheDuchessOfNorksBride · 09/01/2008 20:13

Holy shit batters! - that's amazing.

www - I hope you've had a better journey today. What news with contract? Are you staying with one day at home?

I survived my horrible day in the horrible car. Only stalled it about 50 times so an improvement on yesterday.

Forgot Moron again today but I did walk reasonably quickly for over an hour with the dog this morning. Sunny but v. cold.

I've had 2 x toast & marmite, apple juice, 3 coffees, over 1l of water and counting, watercress, raw mushroom, red pepper & avocado salad for lunch with half a bag of Hula Hoops, shortbread biscuit, small lump of cheese, a gorgeous black cherry yoghurt and am about to eat cold lobster & salad with a big dollop of mayo. Yep - DH is in town!

Getting to bed by 11pm which isn't bad for me. Good on skincare and Flexitolled last night too.

Quite happy. I'll be over the bloody moon when I get my car back!

TheDuchessOfNorksBride · 09/01/2008 20:16

I've just realised how few carbs I'm eating.

Kazzia · 09/01/2008 20:56

Oh dear - am doing v badly. Went back to work on Mon & drank tons of coffee, sat about all day & forgot cream. Only bright spot is no booze - sure to go badly wrong tomorrow night when going out with chum.

Face looking shrivelled and broken veined. Must try harder. Reaching for the water butt.

Prufrock · 09/01/2008 21:02

I'm signing off early tonight as I'm going upstairs to shower and then into bed to watch new project catwalk (I have to have some vices)

Exercise: 1 dog walk alone (which means I covered more ground in 30 minutes than I did in an hour with kids attached yesterday. And he I spent another 15 minutes ball throwing for Roger whilst poor tired puppy lay at my feet. Then this evening an hours session with Evil Janice (After tonight I'm borrowing your discription ms. wong - she had me boxing then doing reducing weight/increasing reps leg extensions - not sure I'll be able to walk tomorrow)

Prufrock · 09/01/2008 21:02

Food: 3 cups coffee, 1.5l water (but will take more upstairs with me so will be 2) Granola with skimmed milk, 8 pieces sushi, tomato juice, few grapes, smidge of delicious cheese, red thai curry with turkey, mushrooms, beansprouts, pepper and water chestnuts. I resisted the caramel squares in the deli as well.

I'm doing very limited carbs and no wheat atm duch, and so far at least it's really helped with my IBS (which manifests itself as uncontrollable stomach cramps and burping late at night)
