I think Royal Tour = new stuff that is then reworn afterwards.

Criticism of the tour is mounting though which makes me sad for them.

Serenster · 26/03/2022 09:13

Also, it’s their first tour after Covid, people will have been expecting her to display some new outfits. I also think she was selecting with an eye for the future - the white lace dress for Ascot, the yellow dress for Wimbledon, the blue lace dress for Garter Day etc.

I was interested to see a new commitment to selecting vintage pieces (the YSL jacket, the sundress in Jamaica, the orange handbag) - she hasn’t done that before and I think it’s good to see - I hope she continues in this vein. She repeated lots of accessories and jewellery too - although she does seem to have splashed out on white shoes. (Of all the shoes in all the world THAT is what she decides to fall in love with…?).

I can't agree about the narrow sparkly belt it would detract from the neckline too much.

I do think an updo would've taken the whole look up and then just the earrings.

But I'm nit-picking, I think it's a beautiful dress and she looks fabulous.

Nnique · 26/03/2022 09:16

Yes @Serenster I’ve really enjoyed seeing the vintage pieces and I hope that continues!

Maireas · 26/03/2022 09:18

@frugalkitty

I really like the dress, she does have a long torso like me which means it's hard to get anything with the waist sitting in the right place.....oh wait, that's just me because I don't have clothes made for me. Anyway, it's a hit although I do agree something round the waist might have been better. pussycat this wedding was also 1987! And I spotted the typo, should have said sweetheart neckline!

I'm not going to ask why your autocorrect went to mescaline

I assume they will have been well prepared for the fact that this was going to be a bumpy tour. The Queen was always going to want to show a presence in the countries where she remains head of state in her jubilee year, and with Jamaica’s current government this was always going to be one of the trickiest assignments, I presume they selected Kate and William for it as the most media friendly of the possible visitors, but that only goes so far.

Also, I think they will sensibly pay attention more to the reaction to their visit in the actual countries they visited, and less to the international views about their activities.

I'm not sure the reaction has been entirely positive from those countries but I don't think W&K thought it would be. His speech last night seemed to accept that. Edward and Sophie are off to the Caribbean later this year too so it'll be interesting to see what kind of reception they receive.

But I'm just on this thread for the clothes and will leave the more political discussions for other threads!

Wise words, Deftly

Yes, I should have clarified - they will never receive completely positive responses anywhere they go (and nor should they - people should have the right to protest and make their views about a monarchy/their head of state clear, that’s a fundamental part of living in a democratic country). I was thinking more about the fact that clearly the balance of the public response was positive - while there were definitely protests, they were fairly small in comparison.

Edward and Sophie will receive considerably less international press coverage, and are not so targeted by certain section of the internet, so I imagine they will have a much smoother ride - but time will tell, I may be completely wrong on that!

Nnique · 26/03/2022 09:40

I really am happy with that outfit. Even the shoes are just right! I agree she could have had a lovely updo but as far as I’m concerned she still looked like a dream and I highly approve!

Maireas · 26/03/2022 09:43

Yes, the only disappointing thing for me has been her hair, apart from one nice up do. I don't like the poker straight long flat hair with a centre parting, or pulled up and back a la Wallis Simpson.
However, some different looks, shapes and colours 👍

I quite like the sleek hair. I feel it looks more modern than the waves and sausage curls, which can look a bit fussy. But she needs to share her Caribbean frizz-fighting tips!

Nnique · 26/03/2022 09:56

Oh I agree on that - and I think it looks really good simply by virtue of being different from the way she’s had it for so long now.

justasking111 · 26/03/2022 10:03

Having holidayed in that climate straight hair, or up or beaded are the only options on the third day I had my long hair beaded it was wonderfully freeing.

HeyGirlHeyBoy · 26/03/2022 10:05

Justasking, are you Monica from Friends? Grin
CliffsofMohair yes, the boots! Grin Their trip here has barely been covered but it looks like they've had a great time and the weather has been amazing.

KillingMeDeftly · 26/03/2022 10:05

@justasking111 That makes me think of the episode of Friends where Monica gets her frizzy hair beaded and then gets them stuck in the shower curtain railing!

KillingMeDeftly · 26/03/2022 10:06

Hah snap @HeyGirlHeyBoy Grin

I don't like waves or sausage curls, but ironed flat looks dull to me. A happy medium, as someone posted upthread.

I know what you mean @Maireas and I agree.

Still on balance I think it’s been a fantastic tour fashion-wise and I’d be happy to see each of those pieces worn again.

HeyGirlHeyBoy · 26/03/2022 10:14

Mine is ironed flat, at best, most days Blush Either that or thrown into a bun. What do normal but stylish women do with their hair?

I liked the gown from last night and particularly liked the jewellery. I would probably have preferred a different colour but I'm not fond of the icy/pastel colours on Kate - I think she looks better in stronger colours.

I think her hairdresser has had a job to batter her natural hair into submission this week which is why we've seen such flat, straight styles.

Aside from the first lace dress which I hated it's been a great tour for me... lovely to see some different looks.

Maireas · 26/03/2022 10:25

My favourite Kate look, I think her hair is lovely here, natural waves, no sausage curls but not straight. Gorgeous dress!

I'm sure you're stylish! I just don't like that look on her. Funnily enough, I think Meghan can really carry that look.

Absolutely love that Wimbledon look, every bit of it. Oh god, I'm not stylish in the least Grin

Maireas · 26/03/2022 10:53

Disclaimer: my hair is naturally poker straight, and I've always been envious of curls and waves! Someone at work said "you've got great straighteners!". Nope, just 1a hair.....☹️
