@KillingMeDeftly

I actually own a green coat! And Kate has the same one in pink 😆

So now I own Kate's coat, Meghan's silk shirt (also green) and a jumper I saw on CPV!

That means you actually ARE royal, KMD. I am in awe.
GrouchyKiwi · 17/03/2022 22:37

I love the coat Kate wore today. It's very elegant and I adore the colour. (I was waiting for the Duchess Kate blog to post photos so I could see full length pics from several angles.)

It would have been good for her to rewear one of her many, many other green coats, but maybe they're supporting designers after a hard couple of years?

Lá Fheile Phadraig sona daoibh ☘️ You have all been amazing company throughout Covid. I think of you all as my MN friends. May the road rise to meet you.

(May you not contract Covid just as you’re about to hang with President Joe)

Love Zara's Cheltenham looks, although would have liked a bit more imagination with the hats. The only thing I liked about KM's outfit today was her hat. IMHO the cost was awful, same ole same ole...

hopeishere · 18/03/2022 08:03

Zara looks great. I think she is being sponsored / styled to wear that stuff. She frequently gets it wrong in terms of fit though. She has a big bust and stuff if often too tight across it. Agree with the peaky blinders comment. Assume his outfit is sponsored too!!

Kate looks ok. I don't like the pointy collar. I assume she has lots of help with her clothes and is happy with what she wears and she has plenty of choice if she put something on and hated it and wanted to change.

Serenster · 18/03/2022 08:44

In the minority, but I liked Kate’s green coat yesterday, it’s one of my favourites of hers. I also own the same Hobbs boiled wool trench coat she wore to this event one year (bought before she wore it!) so if we do have a meet up, you’ll recognise me :))

Given when Kate does veer towards more adventurous choices that I presume reflect her own tastes (she seems to really like long floral Erdem dresses, for example, as she has worn several - there’s a selection below) she tends to get mostly negative comments on the sites that cover her, so I can totally see why she sticks with the safe and uncontroversial options 90% of the time. You can never please everyone!

I like the coat. Green is one of my favourite colours. That’s not my issue with it. The hat too is fine, in and of itself. As are the shoes, and the green earrings.

Nnique · 18/03/2022 08:56

I like all of Kate’s Erdem dresses. Much more interesting. I don’t care if it’s not perfect, I want to see some character.

gluenotsoup · 18/03/2022 09:19

I like the green coats- most of them! It’s just there are too many that are very similar, a bit of variety in the green costs would make more sense. I also quite like the Erdem dresses, especially the blue one pictured first. Interestingly- or not 😬- I have just reupholstered a piano stool and have a lampshade in fabric virtually identical to the gold/mustard pattern. They look great! 😁

HeyGirlHeyBoy · 18/03/2022 10:44

I loved her Erdem tweed dress, was it grey and red? For an art gallery opening maybe. 2018 I'd say. The idea of yesterday's sameness and price tag and waste is what gets me! Absolutely, it looked fine and appropriate. Just a rewear would have been better.

Eaumyword · 18/03/2022 10:47

Hi @Serenster!
I love Kate in that long red and blue floral gown. Not too sure about the mustard one and the blue one though, a bit curtain-y.
I agree she can't win, so keeps it safe.

SnottyLottie · 18/03/2022 11:24

I feel that Kate’s own style is similar to Carrie Johnson’s. But Carrie is allowed to be a bit more outgoing and show her personality with her choices whilst Kate has to be ultra safe, never outshine people or the cause, and be fairly modest and appropriate for the occasion.

On a side note, whilst I’m not keen on her as a person I bloody love Carrie Johnson’s style.

LadyEloise1 · 18/03/2022 11:48

I think Kate is between a rock and a hard place re rewears.
If she rewears some will take it as a slight against whatever event she's at - I know, I know - daft.
But I have to admit I like seeing what she's wearing to an event.
But if she wears new, others bemoan the waste.

I dislike intensely many of Erdem's styles but that check / tweed dress is fabulous on her and beautifully accessorised. She is positively glowing.

HeyGirlHeyBoy · 18/03/2022 11:50

It's beautiful. LadyEloise, the bemoaning the waste isn't just the cost but the 400th green coat issue! Thats the thing, for me anyway.

Serenster · 18/03/2022 14:58

Hi to you, @Eaumyword!

I agree that Kate’s own style probably veers more towards Carrie Johnson than the perfectly polished, tailored plain outfits that she generally goes for. Much like Crown Princess Mary is a big fan of a boho look, and allows that side of her to come out to play every now and again. Anyway, I too would love to see Kate be bolder more often. I like her Erdem dresses, mostly (the tweed was was a definite winner). Here’s another three of her “adventurous” looks that I loved - interestingly, all worn on foreign tours, not in the UK.

I love the first and last of those dresses, and her hair in the first is lovely too, a good length on her 🙂

KillingMeDeftly · 18/03/2022 15:13

Kate's India tour wardrobe really suited her. She looked like one those posh boho west London mums you see around Chelsea, which tbf she more or less is! She may go with that vibe for the Caribbean trip too. Strange that no itinerary has been released yet.

MotherofPearl · 18/03/2022 15:18

I really loathe all the Erdem dresses. They're all so fussy, even the much praised tweedy one.

I love much prefer plain, classic unfussy styles. Here are some of my favourite outfits of Kate's.

RomainingCalm · 18/03/2022 15:19

I love the first two of those outfits. I'm less keen on the red and white but completely agree with whoever said that she has a work uniform that 'fits' the occasion and then a much more relaxed sporty/casual wardrobe which is far more her.

I think the tour starts in Belize and then goes to Jamaica and the Bahamas. I'm hoping for some great outfits- her tour wardrobes are usually a bit more adventurous and generally spot on.

RomainingCalm · 18/03/2022 15:20

(That should have been to Serenster's pictures)

RomainingCalm · 18/03/2022 15:26

I also wonder whether the way the Press love to drag out photos from the past to fill a slow news day influences Kate's choices - the St Andrews fashion show picture and the roller disco party being two that spring to mind.

Maybe it's better to be criticised for another boring green coat than risk having 'Kate in Fashion Fail - What Was She Thinking?' plastered across the DM.

frugalkitty · 18/03/2022 16:17

Oh no, not the Per Una Erdem frocky horror show again!
