Blimey. Mike and Peter have gone a bit Peaky Blinders. Zara looks lovely.
I've seen Anne in that coat before - quelle surprise!

Zara almost always looks fantastic. Hardly ever puts a sartorial foot wrong IMO, and always looks as if she’s having a good time.

MotherofPearl · 16/03/2022 21:17

I'm afraid I'm the opposite and think Zara seldom gets it right and often looks very trussed up in formal wear, but she looks great in that charcoal grey coat. I often think her clothes are too tight or ill-fitting, but that coats fits like a dream.

I'm pretty sure that green coat of Anne's was in the Town & Country royals-in-green retrospective posted yesterday evening!

Nnique · 16/03/2022 21:25

Ah I should clarify I meant more in concept than in execution (although that might make sense in my head and nowhere else...)

Kind of like Max. Zara dresses how she loves to dress, I think, and because of that always looks great IMO, even if she doesn’t actually get it ‘right’ every time. It’s not self-conscious. I like that.

But it’s subjective of course!

@Maireas

www.dailymail.co.uk/femail/article-10614179/Sophie-takes-New-York-Countess-Wessex-rounds-day-Commonwealth-Day-Reception.html Sophie's on a four day trip to NY, meeting at the UN as a Commonwealth representative. I'm not sure about the leather dress, but I like the Stella McCartney dress. I think it has images of women on? It looks like a great trip.
Some fab looks, although I am also not sure about the leather dress. I like the manicure too.
RomainingCalm · 17/03/2022 12:22

I'm afraid it's time for a game of 'Spot the Difference'.

It's green, Kate looks lovely and it's entirely appropriate, but did we really need another £3200 coat dress in dark green.

It's a horrible coat. I hate the collar. I dislike the colour. I dislike the shape of the hat which is "off" colour with the coat - this may be just the light though.
She has done much better St.Patrick's Day outfits.

Nope. We definitely didn't. Should've just worn one of the other ones and bought a better hat. It's just so dull
DaphneduM · 17/03/2022 12:49

Terrible - it reminds me of a well-tailored army greatcoat.

Flintfarmhouse · 17/03/2022 12:49

I think most average women would look awful in it but she can carry it off. It's about as near as a uniform you can wear without actually wearing uniform. She's obviously going for sombre given world events.

Nnique · 17/03/2022 12:50

I do not understand why Kate doesn’t just mix it up even a tiny bit!

If she wants to wear a green coat, fine. But why the green hat? In fairness as you said I think the colour probably matches better IRL as captions say the coat is teal green and there is definitely teal green in the hat too. But still...Burgundy, or berry, or navy blue, or well, loads of other colours, would have gone just as well and made a much better outfit IMO. Also she’s worn that elongated pointy collar what, three times at least in just the past month or so...it comes across so boring and without character because we just see the same thing(s) over and over again.

Nnique · 17/03/2022 13:02

And I’ve just seen the shoes are green as well...

Nnique · 17/03/2022 13:11

Earrings too...

I guess it’s just who she is. Which is fine of course. But doesn’t make for interesting fashion.

seaRabbit · 17/03/2022 13:13

It's the waste that I can't stand. They are always such a dull shade of green, too.

Nnique · 17/03/2022 13:17

@Maireas just saw your comment!

Hmmm. Is the cameo diadem spoken for? If not may I place it on reserve as I do love it... i think it can legitimately be called a crown. However I might spend some time thinking about this one rather than rushing to just pick one!

Nnique · 17/03/2022 13:19

Yes quite, I mean I’m not going to expect the Royal Household not to be wasteful in terms of fashion. It’s part and parcel. But at least make choices that aren’t doubly wasteful because you’ve already got tens of items, each almost entirely indistinguishable from the last!

Nnique · 17/03/2022 13:19

Think of future exhibitions...what an uninspiring thought.

Justkeeppedaling · 17/03/2022 13:26

An exhibition just of all Kate's green coats would take a while to walk round on it's own Smile
SnottyLottie · 17/03/2022 14:22

I actually like it. She looks very smart and as someone above said it’s as close to a military uniform she can get without actually wearing one. The colour and silhouette are a little boring but it’s safe and sober. I love her hat (but again I seem to be the minority). The problem is I think she is just so beautiful and has such a lovely figure that I think she looks great in most things! I probably wouldn’t like it as much if someone else wore it but then again she has the expectation of dressing fairly modestly and appropriately for the occasion compared to other celebrities so I cut her some slack on this front.

gluenotsoup · 17/03/2022 14:55

I agree with all the “it’s smart/ appropriate/ she can wear anything” thoughts, but I’ve seen enough of the greenish coat dresses to last a lifetime. I know she will be trying to keep the attention on the event rather than her, but part of the pull to put attention on the event is her presence, so the clothes can afford to be a bit more varied and stand out a bit.
Something different please Kate! 👍🏼

gluenotsoup · 17/03/2022 15:28

Zara, Anne and Tim are at Cheltenham again. I like Anne’s bright orange in a sea of green, Zara seems to be sticking with the funnel neck coat as her go -to look. Again, it’s nice enough but getting a bit samey.

I don't like anything about Kate's outfit today, sorry. Dull, dull, dull.

Maireas · 17/03/2022 16:47

I agree with all the points about Kate's outfit. If you don't want to stand out too much, look professional and low key, that's fine. However, stop getting new green coats! Just wear a previous one! Today's wasn't particularly stylish, either.
The comment about the exhibition made me laugh! Maybe we could all get tickets when that happens and play "spot the difference" Wink

I just lost a long post of (mostly ramblings, probably Hmm ) analysis...

Crux of it was that in many ways style is substance. I think what she’s trying to do is fine, but the problem is over time when it’s so prescriptive it has actually has the opposite effect of what I think her intentions are - it comes across as dumbed down dressing, without wit and without character. Which then in fact detracts from any gravitas she might have had, which in turn detracts from the gravitas of the event or occasion as well.

Something like that.
