There may be no such word.

Loved the royals in green retro. And some classics we don’t often see!

‘Always on point in Ireland, Kate chose a head-to-toe green ensemble with a green overcoat topping a patterned green dress in Dublin’

IS SHE THOUGH?????or does Kate look like she wandered happily from the first class cabin of Aer Lingus flight EI 117.

I wish Kate would stop with the matronly clothes and dress more for her age. She always looks so staid.

Have to agree, her hemlines are too long they've dropped lower every year. Looking at Diana she wore statement clothes kate just pulls another coat dress off the hangar these days. It's a bit sad when you compare her to the European ladies.

I loathed that ensemble - it was just so costumey. I know she was in Ireland but head to toe in green? Really??

On the flip side that was the tour where she wore the Vampire's Wife dress so at least that was a welcome departure.

Maireas · 16/03/2022 07:21

I absolutely agree, CliffsofMohair - it really is a strange form of tribute. Not even stylish. As Deftly says, too "costumey", which I think sums it up.
Some lovely ideas on here for Kate - she can look absolutely amazing, but the tired old coat dress look has to go.
Also, she must have a huge wardrobe now, and should look to doing a few more rewears or alterations.

I preferred the separates Meghan wore when she and Harry visited NI a couple of years before. It looked more like actual clothes than a costume and the green of her skirt was enough!

I think she probably just sees outfits as work uniform and won't take the risk of criticism for too short/inappropriate etc etc.
Plus, they have to be seen to rewear outfits and I sense she's just not a clothes horse - she always looks her best in country gear.
That said, I think Leti nails a modern stylish elegant look and Kate would look fabulous in her outfits.

paradyning · 16/03/2022 07:55

Oooo this is one of my favourite Meghan looks. She went full green, white, orange though with the literal dressing.

I also like the brown hat, with wickstead coat and reverse belt on the green montage. It's the best parade look by far. Think the brown cuts through the sea of green.
Thanks for the other link too!

Eaumyword · 16/03/2022 08:16

Yes, I like that Meghan separates look too.

RomainingCalm · 16/03/2022 09:15

Thank you for sharing that link @JesusMaryAndJosephAndTheWeeDon.

There are some fabulous green outfits but goodness me there are some horrors as well.

Yes definitely!

That Diana sequinned Catherine Walker number is... errrr..... of its time ........

Actually Diana's outfits didn't need a date, they were all so obviously the fashion of their time you could guess the year. Such a shame that Kate isn't a bit more adventurous.

Thasheblows88 · 16/03/2022 12:11

It's all about context isn't it?

I think the green coat dresses and hats are appropriate for a military setting where everyone is wearing uniform around you!

I agree that Kate could be a bit more adventurous on other occasions though but I think, like many of us, she has a work "uniform". And when you are being photographed from all angles, and the photos are all across the press the next day, I can understand why she doesn't want to take many risks. Also, she probably plays it safe because if she wears her usual attire, it doesn't take attention away from the good cause she is visiting. I get the impression that she is most at home in casual, practical sporty or country clothes.

Btw, I love that emerald choker of Diana's! I wonder what happened to it?

seaRabbit · 16/03/2022 15:04

There was such a fuss made about Diana's clothes that I fear Kate is right to tone it down a little, and maybe be a bit boring.

I wish she'd re-wear stuff more, as she has so many things that are similar, and then that get worn once: it's so wasteful.

Thasheblows88 · 16/03/2022 15:26

Yes, I suppose you are not doing your job properly as a royal if the headlines are about the batwing sleeves instead of the children's hospital. Having said that, I'm no expert, but I think when you get in to your forties and fifties you need to start dressing in a slightly 'younger' way if you don't want to look matronly. But with her figure, Kate has a way to go before that happens!

KillingMeDeftly · 16/03/2022 15:59

I think that happens with Kate regardless as coverage of her events invariably focus on what she's wearing, whether it's good or bad. So she may as well have fun with her clothes!

Nnique · 16/03/2022 16:42

@AdaColeman I just saw you on the bridal thread and surprise surprise, had to come for a bit of a Royal Style catch up! Smile

Nnique · 16/03/2022 16:53

Sophie's on a four day trip to NY, meeting at the UN as a Commonwealth representative. I'm not sure about the leather dress, but I like the Stella McCartney dress. I think it has images of women on?
It looks like a great trip.

gluenotsoup · 16/03/2022 20:46

The Stella dress looks good, I’m also not sure of the leather dress, I wasn’t last time either. It’s a bold choice, but I prefer the leather skirt and silk top look. She looks like she’s enjoying it though (I wonder if she’ll pop in on H and M while she’s over there..?). 😂

KillingMeDeftly · 16/03/2022 20:48

She'll have far to go to pop in if she's in New York and they're in California!

gluenotsoup · 16/03/2022 20:50

I know… it’s not likely is it?😂

gluenotsoup · 16/03/2022 20:53

Also, Zara, Mike, Peter and Anne have been at Cheltenham. I like both outfits of Zara’s, Anne suits the green, and the royal men seem to have swapping notes with Edward.
