Is @ambernectarine Around?

Grantingmum · 27/02/2022 00:14

The handbag thing is so odd though. I know so many intelligent wealthy and successful women and not one of them would waste £1k on a hand bag. It would show a real lack of class

😅😅😅

That’s weird…

Because I work with, and am friends with, dozens of intelligent, wealthy and successful women who have a range of handbags many of which cost multiples of £1k….

I also have intelligent wealthy successful friends who don’t own any designer handbags. They smash their bonuses up the wall on teslas, ridiculous luxury holidays, giant TVs, Following F1, £500 a roll wallpaper, golden dildos etc etc.

And good for them…. Whatever rings your bell.
I wholeheartedly subscribe to the philosophy of “my money, my rulz”

I also highly doubt OP is going to be shamed into giving the money to a donkey sanctuary because a stranger thinks she “lacks class” 😂

lisaandalan · 27/02/2022 03:00

Mulberry Millie, or for £1300 Mulberry Hobo. X

Marmelace · 27/02/2022 04:13

What's with all the giving to charity clap trap etc. This is the OP money and she can do what she likes with it ffs.

Class is when you naturally make others feel at ease, not about shaming and judging them.
halfsiesonapotnoodle · 27/02/2022 04:57

A Kipling cross body bag from Amazon and put the rest into my account.

Donate it to aid supplies for Ukraine.

How does this thread even exist? WTF is wrong with all of you?

LiberteEgaliteBeyonce · 27/02/2022 05:54

I knew people here were judgemental but this is becoming ridiculous.
May I suggest that if you are not interested then you should not click and read.

Who do you think is buying all the £1k handbags? I work with loads of successful wealthy women including some you’d have heard of and none of them have cheap handbags. Honestly it’s not what I’d chose to spend my money on right now but I’ve got a couple of pens not far off that price so I’m not in a position to judge!

SD1978 · 27/02/2022 06:32

@Fridafever.......I do love seeing a nice pen!!!!

naanbread2 · 27/02/2022 07:01

I really think there are better things to spend your money on...especially at the moment.
But if I had a spare £1,000 lying around I wouldn't get a mulberry bag as I think they're pretty 2000s now and a bit dated.
But I like the kate spade handbags and they're pretty classic.
Stella has some more interesting ones.
I'd then spend the remaining money on treating loved ones to nice meals out.

sammylady37 · 27/02/2022 07:20

Christ the handbag threads never fail to bring out the virtue-signalling holier than thou types, do they?

Why would anyone who is not interested in handbags come onto a thread which is so clearly about high-end handbags to loftily declare how superior they are and to snidely imply the op must lack class, need therapy etc. It’s bizarre. Just scroll on by. Nobody gives a fuck if you think 10 quid spent on a handbag is 7quid too much.

stayingaliveisawayoflife · 27/02/2022 07:26

I'd buy a chunk of the Elvis and Kresse range including the weekend bags. As they donate a chunk of their profits to the fire fighter charity I cover that aspect as well!! I love their bags and am coveting the duffle bag but it is too much at the moment!

Mustardbay · 27/02/2022 07:32

I've just bought a chloe:

I think you're after something bigger, but the quality is excellent so might be worth looking at.

I love the antigonas too.

I think the thing is it sounds pretty vulgar. If I was making a big purchase, I wouldn't start a thread on a social media platform about how much I wanted to spend and on something most people think is a waste of money. Especially at the moment when there is a cost of living crisis, heavy use of food banks...not to mention the awful news and people scared for their future. It's just crass. If you want to spend that amount on a handbag, go for it, but don't show off about it to strangers on mumsnet. (To think she actually just after recommendations alone is naive).
BlackSwan · 27/02/2022 07:59

This is a style and beauty thread. If you take offense at people spending their own money on frivolities - you don't belong here. And stop imagining you're so virtuous. Your life is full of discretionary spending.

TangoWhiskyAlphaTango · 27/02/2022 08:03

@Leggingslife

A £50 bag and the rest to a charity.

😂😂😂😂😂😂 As if!

DoThePropeller · 27/02/2022 08:05

I actually was looking for recommendations, I have no time to shop, I’m clearly not massively into handbags as I didn’t really know where to start and I have had some good suggestions - especially some of the pre-loved websites, so thank you. I put my budget in the title so that anyone who wasn’t interested in discussing, could scroll by and not waste their time.

And yes, literally everyone I work with and every client I meet has a high end handbag. Most of them costing way more than I am planning to spend!

I am pretty repulsed by the replies on this thread. Can’t imagine for a single second a man getting shit like this for spending a grand on a tailored suit, new set of golf clubs, one of those stupidly expensive bikes every mid 40s man in London has etc. But a woman, daring to spend money on herself. Christ, the internalised misogyny on display here is a joke. Who needs the patriarchy when women behave like this to one another.

No you’re quite right men aren’t policed in this way to be “nice boys” and not show off.

JofraArchersFastestBall · 27/02/2022 08:12

I'm not really a handbag person - but I like lovely things and fully understand why people love them.

If I was in the market for a beautiful bag I'd absolutely go for this one. www.margarethowell.co.uk/womens/shop/accessories/bags/music-tote-smooth-saddle-leather-dark-brown

Enjoy your bag, whatever you decide to buy op

countrygirl171 · 27/02/2022 08:14

Slightly more than £1000 but a Saint Laurent Lou camera bag

naanbread2 · 27/02/2022 08:15

Spending £1000 on a hobby is totally different to spending £1000 on a bag though. Get yourself a bike or some golf clubs instead!

NotThisWeekSatan · 27/02/2022 08:20

“Spending £1000 on a hobby is totally different to spending £1000 on a bag though. Get yourself a bike or some golf clubs instead!”

But why is it different, really? If it makes OP happy - who cares? Why is spending £1k on one thing for yourself better than spending it on another thing?

Some of the replies here (yours is far from the worst offender Naan) are just awful.

OP for what it’s worth I’d probably buy a belted Bayswater pre loved/nearly new.

There really isn’t any difference apart from you placing your own value judgement on it. It’s someone buying something they want and will enjoy and use, with their own money.
