We need to talk about Miss Sixty

TAAT, do hope not deleted Wink

I was 21 in 2001 and Miss Sixty was the dream. I could hardly ever afford it but would save up and scour the sales for the most ludicrously low-slung jeans. I also had a fake sheepskin coat of the kind that seems to be making a current comeback. Loved it and lived in it. Also a t-shirt that for some reason said 'apples apples apples' across the boobs. Loved that too.

Who else worshipped at the alter of Miss Sixty in the early Noughties?

I had a few bits from Miss Sixty, but it was Firetrap and Diesel that really had my heart. I also loved Fornarina, but I can only remember actually buying one thing of theirs - a big, plum-coloured puffy coat, which I got in the sales from Selfridges the first year the new Bullring in Birmingham was open. Purchased with one of my first non-student-job salary payments. Young but feeling grown-up and working (abroad! I was home for Christmas), it felt like the world was mine for the taking, and my amazing coat was the cherry on top.

My favourite 00s jeans were from an Italian brand called Met. Absolutely gorgeous. Pale denim, contrast stitching and the most flattering cut ever. Still have them, but as a pp said probably couldn’t get a thigh in there now.

I’ve discovered actually photographic proof of me with “face gems” and body glitter on.
Straight to the back of the cupboard those photos go![/quote]
@MsAnnFrope and @DukeofEarlGrey

I have some photos luckily not many of me out clubbing.

I got out a few photos a few years ago when neighbours kids were bored and around and the 9 year old girl was fascinated, her mum sitting next to me was in fits of giggles - she'd grown up in Aberdeen but moved to Edinburgh with her boyfriend.

Gonnagetgoing · 18/01/2022 09:56

I spent loads of money far more than I should've done on clothes.

Top Shop Oxford Circus was a favourite place for us as this also had brands. Camden Market with various stalls for clubwear. Hyper Hyper Kensington High Street and the Kensington Indoor Market opposite it were also good for clothes. Plus House of Fraser Victoria (god knows why we went there!).

We used to go mad at sales with Morgan de Toi, Kookai etc though.

I just recalled - I had some Fornarina jeans. I used to have Diesel sort of pedal pushers (long shorts) too.

I had some combat trousers from French Connection and a black v neck top in a luxe fabric shot through with silver, I had a tiny tiny mini skirt that was navy, red and white and was really indie looking. I'd wear it with my New Balance trainers. I also had a second hand addidas zip up top with white strips down the arms, and a second hand pair of baby blue Levi cords. I think the Miss Sixy boots were slightly after this phase. Oh and I had a really lovely khaki green army style skirt, it sat just above the knee and had heavy zips and pockets from Warehouse, I also had a Calvin Klein army style mini skirt in a sandy beige, I remember buying it in HOF and I couldn't believe how cheap it was for CK. I loved a mini skirt, still do, my legs are my best bit to be fair.

Make up wise I had and still have expensive taste. I'd often buy Estee Lauder at bonus time, I remember buying their stick foundation in a shade too pale, I think it was Lilly the advisor tried to get me to go with Ivory but I wasn't having any of it, I also remember buying a Dior cream multi product, in a soft lilac, I used it on my eyes and it was actually lovely. I'd wear it now too. I also had a thing for super dark lipsticks. I remember when Loreal brought out the lip pulp(?) gloss. The advert looked just like the Pulp Fiction film poster. I bought the purple one. Really purple. 😁 Once again I'd probably still wear it. I'm not shy when it come to make up.

MsAnnFrope · 18/01/2022 11:26

Haha my makeup was pure Barry M or from a dodgy shop in Quiggins (those of you with Scouse heritage will know)

BusterGonad · 18/01/2022 12:07

I had the Barry M dazzle dust, my brothers girlfriend gave me them, she no longer wore them. I had about 7 pots, all purples, silvers and lilacs. I also had 2 Miss Selfridge ones, one aqua blue and one white. All shimmery and lovely.

@BusterGonad - we always had expensive taste in makeup - I think Lancome or Dior were our favoured brands and my best friend always liked to go for the palest shade possible - Ivory - whereas I wasn't that shade. I did buy Clinique face powder though.

Slightly later on I also used to buy Shu Uemura metallic eyeshadows - the single ones, I also liked Dior coloured mascaras, Lancome mascara (Definicils etc) and of course Juicy Tubes.

My best friend loved the super dark lipsticks - especially similar ones to the colours Victoria Beckham wore and also super dark nail polish. I was rubbish at applying nail polish so tended to try to skip it apart from a clear coloured one Nars did.

@BusterGonad - ahhhh French Connection - I didn't have the combat trousers from them but had other things. Do you recall Uth - the Jigsaw led shop?

I got a lot from Jigsaw - leather skirt but also lots from Warehouse then. I spent ages trying to find a specific pair of New Balance trainers in a sage and light green nubuck and also some Hush Puppies thong newbuck sandals which I bought in Portobelo Road.

I didn't have Calvin Klein but I recall on a visit to Toulouse I bought a D&G Sport red short sleeved sort of stretch jersey shirt. We used to also get army stuff I'm sure from an army surplus shop somewhere. We also all used to borrow our boyfriend's big white shirts and team them with jean shorts, army shorts etc. Add a tan from the tanning shop and you were sorted.

@BusterGonad - yes to the Barry M dazzle dust and Miss Selfridge ones - we had most of these plus brighter colours like turquoise.

I recall seeing a friend of mine who was a barmaid and she was wearing red eyeshadow (it looked good on her as she had Californian blonde hair and green eyes) and I asked her where it was from - it matched her blusher and she said 'I just used the blusher'.

It was still the era where you could wear what you wanted and anything went. What was hilarious though is I was used to full on clubbing, coming home if at all at 3am. I had a friend who used to go to Subterranea underneath the flyover at Ladbroke Grove - I was quite shocked when the club closed at 2/3am!

I remember going on a waiting list a queueing up for a bottle to Chanel rouge noir nail varnish. Cult product at the time.

Oh yes the juicy tubes, had loads loved them!

I love that nail polish, I bought some a few years ago. I had the mini Christmas edition of the juicy tubes, so 4 slightly different smaller ones.

Just read more of the thread.

I had a Kookai bag which my Mum brought back from a trip to London for me. I loved it so much. And my Firetrap fleece was my pride and joy at Uni. I also had the teal blue Morgan racer back top which I wore with grey combats from the army stores. Such wonderful memories Smile

Monica wore that Morgan top in an episode of Friends Smile

movinghelprequired · 18/01/2022 15:56

I had a horrible break up in the early 2000s and was living abroad. My DM bought me the most fantastic pair of low slung Miss Sixty jeans and sent them to me in order to cheer me up. It def helped! I looked great in them & it was such a treat to receive them - had totally forgotten about that until I opened this post Smile

LivingDeadGirlUK · 18/01/2022 15:56

Loved them! There are lots being sold quite cheaply on Vinted. I found a pair to fit my now size 16 frame but alas my untra low rise days are over XD not the best look with the overhang. I'm reselling!

Lookingoutside · 18/01/2022 16:00

I'm curvy, which was absolutely NOT a thing in the early 2000s, so despite being a tiny size 10 with a 26 inch waist I could NEVER, get MissSixty to fit over my massive bum without going up 3 sizes. I remember being really upset about it too.’

@allfurcoatnoknickers

Same. So many tears in the fitting rooms. Proper proper crying. And I had pink and white skin tone with visible hair follicles on my legs. Never felt so ugly.

BusterGonad · 18/01/2022 16:34

I had the pink and white legs too, and the back of arms were bumpy, I seem to have grown out of it, or I just don't give a fuck anymore! 😂

Littlebendytoe · 18/01/2022 21:30

Absolute Miss Sixty superman back in the day! I had several pairs of very low slung bootleg jeans, the cargo jeans someone else put a pic up of - with a tiny top and heels, and a pair of khaki combats that I wore until the bottoms were just ripped to shreds... Still have those as I cut them into shorts and can still get away with them! Also hankered after the denim boots, I had a corduroy black pair that were too big, and a teeeeny tiny bikini with an eye in each boob Hmm I wasted an absolute fortune!

Littlebendytoe · 18/01/2022 21:30

Superfan, ffs.

ballroompink · 18/01/2022 22:03

Very much THE jeans to be seen in when I was in sixth form/at uni. The ones with the zip up the back! See also: Diesel, Bench, Golddigga...

The PP about expensive makeup made me smile. In sixth form one of my friends had a Saturday job on the Dior counter in John Lewis and she got us all into expensive makeup. Dior and Lancome were our favourites. Benefit as well - plenty of High Beam!

ballroompink · 18/01/2022 22:05

@inmyslippers

Has anyone mentioned Morgan yet
I was very proud of a particular Morgan halterneck top I had. Worn with bootcuts and pointy shoes for going out, of course.

Ah yes benefit high beam! There was another benefit product in used to love, was like a kind of refiner you put on to even out skin (even though then I didn't need it, can't remember the name of it...)...
Glowtastic · 18/01/2022 22:16

Dr Feelgood ! That was the product, may get some.

ballroompink · 18/01/2022 22:39

Yes Dr Feelgood! I had it!
