We need to talk about Miss Sixty

TAAT, do hope not deleted Wink

I was 21 in 2001 and Miss Sixty was the dream. I could hardly ever afford it but would save up and scour the sales for the most ludicrously low-slung jeans. I also had a fake sheepskin coat of the kind that seems to be making a current comeback. Loved it and lived in it. Also a t-shirt that for some reason said 'apples apples apples' across the boobs. Loved that too.

Who else worshipped at the alter of Miss Sixty in the early Noughties?

@dafey

It’s odd but just recently I’ve been feeling really nostalgic for the 2000s, for the first time ever!

The 00s are back fashion wise

I'm loving all the wide leg trousers and flares that are out at the moment, it takes me back. Just wish I had my 20 year old body to pull them off!

Sailor2009 · 17/01/2022 07:46

@HeadToToesNo

I've still got my full length denim and faux-fur coat, I begged and begged and begged my parents for it and they finally relented. I lived in it for years but it's still in surprisingly good condition, I just need to work up the nerve to wear it in public again!
Mines in my parents loft. Every now and then I think about getting it out and wearing it.
Onetraumaatatimeplease · 17/01/2022 08:47

I've just thrown six pairs of miss sixty jeans in the clothing bin. For more years than I care to remember they have been living under my bed. I finally acknowledged that even if low waist, boot cut, drag across the bottom of the floor jeans came back into fashion that my 43 year old body just isn't the same as my 21 year old body. It was devastating.

LoveLabradors · 17/01/2022 08:55

I had a very tiny silver Morgan dress which I adored. Also a chocolate brown ribbed Morgan dress which was obscenely short that I wore with brown high mules from kookai - I though I looked great Grin

LoveLabradors · 17/01/2022 08:56

Got them in Lewis’ in Liverpool (not John Lewis) - they had a big Morgan concession.

SocksAndTheCity · 17/01/2022 09:52

I had to hunt for it but here is my much prized Miss Sixty poodle clutch, which I've had for longer than I can remember!

Unfortunately I took off the chain strap and I now don't know where it is, although it'll be around somewhere 😊

@Suzi888

Lol yes, I was a tiny size 6 /8. I lived the jeans and handkerchief topsGrin.
@Suzi888 - ah yes - the handkerchief tops which were literally upside down triangles of material... in some flimsy silky material...

I used to go to Portobello Market a lot - and once I bought a denim fabric (but a bit stretchy) which was basically two triangles/rectangles and had some leather thong lacing up the sides to hold it together, with a matching skirt. God knows how I fitted into it!

Sort0f · 17/01/2022 10:16

I have a white Miss Sixty mini dress. Cotton material, square neck, long sleeves with a slightly puffed shoulder. It had a poppy field pained on the hem. Totally impractical but equally gorgeous.

I also had a black double breasted jacket in worsted wool. It had shed brass buttons in a military formation. The stand up collar and exaggerated cuffs were lined in a grey astrakhan effect material. Looked great but the astrakhan moulted a bit so you had to be handy with the sticky roller on a regular basis.

Gonnagetgoing · 17/01/2022 10:18

For anyone who remembers our heroes were All Saints girls - so you'd either dress like Louise Redknapp in cargo/army trousers with pockets and the tops - I had black posh cargo army trousers from Karen Millen as well as the army green type ones. My best mate was just 5ft and size 6-8 and got lots of her clothes including cargo/army trousers from Gap/H&M kids department so paid less for them.

We all emulated various Spice Girls (sort of) in what to wear, belly button diamante or silver piercings, anklet chains, tattoos if you were brave enough, white eyeshadow below eyebrows (always plucked), lots of eyeliner. And Clinique 3 step system to take it all off. Teeny tiny butterfly clips to clip the hair back, which you could have shorter as well as long. Chokers for necks, I had black lace ones. Clompy 70s looking shoes with heels 6 inches or more high.

mrstea301 · 17/01/2022 11:38

Arch the nostalgia - this is all bringing back so many memories! I couldn't fit into miss sixty jeans, much to my despair, but remember the tribals / off shoulder tops well! Xx

MsAnnFrope · 17/01/2022 12:16

@Gonnagetgoing oh my I was also a shortie and size 6 so got my jeans and camo pants from kids Gap.
All I’d fit into from there now would be hoodies!
Also had the pierced belly button and butterfly clips in my hair, sometimes with little plaits.

EishetChayil · 17/01/2022 12:22

I had a pair of Miss Sixty jeans and felt like the absolute dog's bolleaux in them.

OvaHere · 17/01/2022 12:27

I had a long sleeved, purple, stretch, see through Miss Sixty top which had Miss Sixty embroidered on the back and a cobweb on the front. I bought it for a Halloween night out.

I'm aware it sounds hideous but I loved it and wore it all year round with bootcut jeans and a spaghetti top underneath or just a black bra if I was feeling daring.

I think a lot of my clothes back then were technically hideous (also had a few handkerchief tops - paisley I think) but youth and being a size 8 is forgiving of most terrible fashions. Grin

I was about 23/24 when I discovered trendier clothes and clubbing clothes.

Despite being a size 8-10, with a larger bust - when I was younger I just didn't want to show off my body. The most I'd stretch to was a crop top/jumper.

When I started going clubbing with my mates we all used to swap hair, makeup and clothing tips and we'd egg each other on to wear stuff or borrow stuff off each other.

Youth and being slim certainly spurred us on. Grin

Gonnagetgoing · 17/01/2022 12:47

Karen Millen was also another shop we liked. Crochet tops - I had a few of them - surprisingly cool when out clubbing. I had a Karen Millen sport dress - sort of quilted material, sleeveless and short and then my best mate wanted the one in white so I got that for her in their sale.

I don't honestly know how I didn't break my neck in the shoes I wore.

pootlingalonginthesun · 17/01/2022 12:59

I have a Miss Sixty cross body bag that I still use. It was a Christmas present for a friend in 2002 but she gave it back as it wasn't her style. The friendship has long since gone but my love for the bag is still going strong Grin

@DukeofEarlGrey - and little teeny tiny heart ❤️ or star ⭐️ sequins for the face!

I loved Diesel jeans.

I remember when FCUK was edgy because it was almost a swear word.

MistySkiesAfterRain · 17/01/2022 20:09

I had a denim square bag too- it came free with a magazine. It was my handbag for years Grin

DukeofEarlGrey · 17/01/2022 21:04

Nooo, Miss Sixty wouldn't have come free with a magazine, surely?!

@DukeofEarlGrey @Gonnagetgoing
I’ve discovered actually photographic proof of me with “face gems” and body glitter on.
Straight to the back of the cupboard those photos go!

Shopgirl1 · 17/01/2022 21:51

I loved Miss Sixty - bought amazing flares from them in 2002, I remember where I wore them. Loved their jeans and jackets. They are still going but it’s years since I’ve bought anything, they are gone from the department stores I bought them in. I reckon I wore their stuff until around 2010, same with Diesel, although I still have a pair of Diesel shorts I bought in 2007 and bring out every summer.

I can't see it to be honest. I'll be pissed off if I missed out on that bargain!

isthismylifenow · 18/01/2022 08:09

They are still around! I see Miss Sixty jeans all the time. I don't live in the UK and I have a very handy warehouse type place near me that gets in all the overruns etc (I think something like your TK Maxx but on a less glamorous scale). There are loads of Miss Sixty jeans in there, I saw them this weekend. They are all a bit blingy on the pockets though. I have no idea where they come from country wise, but there are also other blasts from the pasts in there Diesel, Guess, Sissy Boy, American Eagle etc.

And as for Wonderbras, we still get them as well. Still as ridiculously priced as ever for the properly branded ones. We do get cheaper ones, which are called parallel imports. So still Wonderbra's with the same label, but didn't get here via 'official channels'. We have a lot of parallel import perfumes too. Ie, Chanel that comes from Dubai instead of Europe, its bypassed customs or some such. I often think they are just fakes, but its definitely a thing.
