This picture is very unflattering - why does John Lewis think it's a good look? I'd probably look even worse in them by the way.

Absolutely nothing wrong with that photo. Much prefer it to a photoshopped version of a women made to look like a prepubescent girl.

Good on JL!

Luckingfovely · 16/01/2022 08:24

That's really interesting.

One the one hand, I'm all for using 'real' women as models, and so really want to applaud this.

On the other hand, my multi-caesarean apron would look just like that (if not worse) in see-though knickers like that, and I would never buy them in a million years.

It's bad judgement, I think, trying to be woke, but the wrong choice of product for that (perfectly lovely) body, as it accentuates a feature that most of us would not want to highlight.

Interested in other opinions on this - I suspect they will vary.

Fingerbobs · 16/01/2022 08:25

I agree, this is closer to what most people would actually look like. There is no point in buying clothes because they make a 5’10” model with a flat chest and narrow hips look good, if you are 5’4” with an FF cup and have overdone the pigs in blankets, is there?

bedington · 16/01/2022 08:28

Well done JL

That’s interesting because on another thread about lingerie someone else used that photo to hi-light the fact they liked the knickers being shown on a larger model. You have to think about what the media have done to us over the years with super slim models and image manipulation ( eg airbrushing ) if the prospect of an average body is sufficient to put you off a product. Personally I welcome the diversity of models.

Santiagopink · 16/01/2022 08:35

I just think women look so weird without pubes! Unpopular opinion I know. It just looks 'blank' to me. My first thought was deep discomfort at looking at a prepubescent crotch

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 16/01/2022 08:35

Commented on the other thread. The model is fine - it's great to see a real body - but the knickers are a size too small for her.

Croissantly · 16/01/2022 08:35

I think it's unflattering as it looks like they're a bit small and are digging in at the sides? If they fitted properly I think its great they're using a variety of women.

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 16/01/2022 08:36

Not sure what the point of the thread is though?

ISpyCobraKai · 16/01/2022 08:39

No, but only because it looks like she'll have a wedgie as soon as she moves, nothing wrong with the model or the knickers as such, they just don't look like a good fit.

Well that didn't take long, did it?
EinsteinaGogo · 16/01/2022 08:40

Thanks OP - I've just ordered the bra and knickers!!!

I think it's bloody great they are using typical examples of women to demonstrate the products.

I wouldn't have bought the set if I'd seen it on a usual model - everything looks good on them!

Have a browse around the Coralie range - there are some other realistic body shapes modelling.

Well done JL - you literally have my business.

IsolaPribby · 16/01/2022 08:40

I agree that they look too small, tight and uncomfortable. But as someone with a post csection tummy far more impressive than the model's, I prefer full briefs in cotton rich with lycra, so I am not their target market.

It's not a prepubescent crotch though? It's clearly a grown woman - any discomfort you have probably comes from your own weird idea that hair is what makes a child into an adult.

Theunamedcat · 16/01/2022 08:42

They look too tight this is not a good look for anyone

It's like they don't have them in the correct size

aslug · 16/01/2022 08:44

The pants look like they dig in a bit but otherwise I like it.

whenwillthemadnessend · 16/01/2022 08:44

I like the larger lady but prefer the non see through ones to be better on her. If was slim I cant see me buying them with that pic. And as I'm not slim and also have c section scar I definitely won't be buying them.

ThroughThickAndThin01 · 16/01/2022 08:49

Agree OP.

FFSjustLTB · 16/01/2022 08:49

18 quid for them?

Starryskiesinthesky · 16/01/2022 08:51

I'm all for using models of all shapes and sizes but to me they look too small and a horrible fit.

curiouscatgotkilled · 16/01/2022 08:53

I think she's just got the wrong size on! The undies are nice, the model is gorgeous.

Really? Do many prepubescent girls have Caesarean sections?
Bagelsandbrie · 16/01/2022 08:58

I have mixed feelings about this. In some ways I think it’s great we’re seeing more models that aren’t 9ft tall and a size zero but at the same time if I was the manufacturer of those knickers I would think they were being shown to the best on that particular sized model.

Bagelsandbrie · 16/01/2022 08:59

Weren’t !
