Though the orange is a bit Kenny from South Park.

I don’t buy coats without hoods ever. It rains too much in England,

And l only buy ones that fasten up to the neck. Can’t be doing with the v shaped ones. Too much cold can get in!

Bitbloweyoutthere · 15/01/2022 09:57

whatwhywhenwhat my nan had one of those, for when she walked back from the hairdressers after a shampoo and set.

getsanta · 15/01/2022 10:00

I don't understand what's wrong with it? It's like a better scarf. I think it's a good idea. Maybe not in the orange though.

Imabitbusyatthemoment · 15/01/2022 10:02

I like it. Even the orange.

Mankyfruitbowl · 15/01/2022 10:06

I like it too. Would be great with a navy peacoat. (I never wear my peacoat because the collar is too draughty and scarves look messy wound round it)

sansucre · 15/01/2022 10:19

Purchased this in navy a few years ago and have used it far more than any of my scarves. It's a great item of clothing, one that has proved invaluable.

I think the colour has distracted the OP from seeing what an incredibly useful item this really is!

@Blossom64265

I’ve been knitting and crocheting variations of this for years. Much warmer than a scarf in harsh winter weather and much more practical for children.
Same. These have been around for ages. Previously called a Dickie , they were popular in the 40s/50s. It means your coat is more versatile and allows layering so you are much warmer without the bulk. Knitting/ crocheting communities are always way ahead of fashion trends. I really like the look of the puffa hood and the wool coat.
ClafoutisSurprise · 15/01/2022 10:22

@CherryFlavourOwl

Looks like something you'd throw to someone to save their life if they were drowning
There is something about the combination of the model’s fearful expression, the orange and the voluminosity of the thing that definitely puts me in mind of accidents and emergencies, although I was thinking more along the lines of an airbag that had gone off inside her coat.

Saw loads of these in the sales. I can see how they’d look good on (this example aside), but I find them inherently ridiculous on some level. I’d feel silly taking off a coat to reveal a giant woolly or puffy collar.

TottiePlantagenet · 15/01/2022 10:31

I don't mind it, can see it would be really useful.

I saw a black version in the sale in Zara too, so it's filtering through the chain stores.

I'd love a positive Cos thread, it's my favourite high street brand.

actiongirl1978 · 15/01/2022 10:32

I like it too. But I am a COS fan

DietrichandDiMaggio · 15/01/2022 10:44

@OrangeIsTheNewRed

And it's orange!! Why, Cos, why?
Well you could have linked the black or navy instead.
OublietteBravo · 15/01/2022 10:50

Selling bits of an item of clothing seems to be a thing at the moment. I give you cuffs without the blouse:

Dancingonmoonlight · 15/01/2022 10:56

@TwoLeftSocksWithHoles

I think at that price it should at least have a pair of mittens attached - on elastic.
No thanks! What adult wants mittens attached to their clothing?

I like the way Cos models look. Once you know your sizing, you can tell very quickly if the item of clothing will suit you or not.
It’s the opposite to most online websites where they use different poses/wind machines//the models stand with one leg up on a chair etc. Cos website is the easiest and best one to show off the clothes. It simply works.

Disclaimer: The majority of my wardrobe is from Cos and most of that was bought online but it is still lovely to go into the shop and feel the weight of the material etc

QueenSue · 15/01/2022 11:02

It reminds me of a medieval hood - how fitting that they are coming back in fashion during a pandemic!

Wtf, Cos? W. T. F.
liveforsummer · 15/01/2022 11:05

Looks like you just pop it on and zip it up, no?!
I actually quite like the layers look and it looks cozier than a scarf. Perhaps not the colour though

liveforsummer · 15/01/2022 11:09

@SheldontheWonderSchlong

Are snoods making a comeback then? I made one in 1985 following a Blue Peter tutorial using stockinette fabric dyed cerise pink. I thought it was the bee's knees! Should I be making another one?!
I never stopped wearing a snood. Far more practical than a flappy scarf for many pursuits
liveforsummer · 15/01/2022 11:09

@TheYearOfSmallThings

And my second thought is "Why are so many women's coats designed so that a second garment is required to actually keep the wearer warm".
So they can be worn at various times of year in varying weather conditions maybe. Add a layer or take one away as appropriate?!
Justilou1 · 15/01/2022 11:10

Pleeeeease can someone link the photo? I live in Aus and it’s taking me to Aus site only. (Which is so new it doesn’t bloody work yet, btw - 🤦🏼‍♀️)

Justilou1 · 15/01/2022 11:13

Looking at the Robin Hood (Ribbon Hood?) look above (yikes?) I am wondering if that is why I am suddenly being inundated with DIY balaclava patterns on Instagram. (I am interested in up-cycling some clothes, but am talentless…)

I like it, I've got work coats I don't like wearing as they have no hood, this solves it. Too expensive though.

QuizzicalEyebrows · 15/01/2022 13:45

Grin I like it and I get it but it's too pricey for what it is. I'd buy it to go with wool coats and anything without a hood really

QuizzicalEyebrows · 15/01/2022 13:46

Makes me realise I can create one from an old puffer.
That'll give DD a new project on her sewing machine Grin

Ha yes I thought this too for the orange one Grin
