Snag Tights email

Fully prepared to get slaughtered for this but here goes.

I've bought tights from Snag before (and really like them) so I'm obviously on their mailing list. I'm a shortarsed size 16-18 so very far from a supermodel.

They've emailed this morning to advertise their new knicker range with images of women wearing them in all their glory and it really wasn't what I wanted in my inbox on a Friday morning. My own wobbly cellulite covered arse is bad enough, I don't need to look at other people's.

It feels like the whole 'body positivity' thing is going too far to me, I'm all for people being comfortable in their own skin but does that have to involve sharing it with the rest of the world? Leaving aside the fact it's not generally healthy to be over a certain size - and that includes me.

Not a fan of snag at all..somehow their ad made its way on to my Facebook page thing and it was just a bum-shot. Full on, with very little noticeable in the way of tights. Grim.

Literally just use Facebook for keeping in touch with friends abroad and don't need to see that first thing

Stopped the ads appearing on my Facebook today. I like the normal pictures of nicely put together outfits with rather colourful tights but really don’t want a close up of someone’s bum on my screen.

I’ve ordered the thong with the 10 inch waist band! I’m going to hang them between 2 trees in the garden and use as a hammock in the summer. 😂

I agree with you OP. What were they thinking.

I am always suspect of the people who recommend Snag on MN with little or no posting history too.

I think so many brands these days are about being edgy or kooky or sending a message. I don't want to send a message. I just want a durable pair of tights. To be fair so far been pleased with the Snag ones I have bought. So maybe will just block all their ads and mails.

God I bought some snd they never arrived - my fault for an address error but customer services still refunded me so good service but then they popped up on my Instagram. Could have been a fetishised page. The women seemed just as objectified as in the case of the emaciated artfully draped types. I am a bit fat - couldn’t care less. I have no horror of a flabby arse but having seen in my family the reality of what morbid obesity delivers as you age a pair of bright tights and a pornified photo of your flab isn’t a life positive message.

I didn’t order again. I don’t like their disingenuous commodification of morbid obesity.

Agree. Like PPs, I feel that Snag are using larger/disabled models to get away with fetishising women's bodies in a way that is no longer acceptable for conventionally sized models.

Thanks @MissLucyEyelesbarrow, you’ve said what I was thinking but wasn’t sure how to express it. I’ve posted a few times on here that I dislike the way plus size models are often presented in a sexualised way. I think you are right that it’s partly because it’s less acceptable to present ‘normal’ size models that way that makes it uncomfortable.

@foxgoosefinch i sometimes forget that I’m middle aged and some MNers might not even remember Terry Richardson, American Apparel etc. I remember being mildly shocked by the AA website back in the day, though I liked a lot of the actual clothes.

I love snag tights but I’m always a bit by their marketing.

I get that the whole point of the brand is that they’re inclusive - but they’ve now gone so far that they’re actually achieving the opposite of that and appear to be targeting a very niche market: soft porn actress, size 20+, covered in tattoos, with multiple piercings and have pink hair (or you’re a hairy bloke ).

Just flicked through their Instagram page. Really wish I hadn’t seen the pic of a bloke’s arse in split crotch underwear with his tights half off!

Good lord. I won't make the mistake of visiting the Snag Instagram page ever again.

I tried a couple of pairs of tights (navy, black, size 8 equiv) from them in the past. I thought they were comfortable, "large fitting, but snagged fairly easily so didn't make repeat purchases.

I unfollowed them long ago, but the focus used to be more diverse, with a good representation of models through the size ranges; from small to large, and in between. I liked their ethos. Though the focus was mostly on the opaque tights, the range has clearly expanded since.

I used to wax lyrical about them to my friends but I've had to stop doing that now. Their website isn't too bad but their social media is awful. I wouldn't direct my friends to it. I've had to hide their page and adverts which is a shame because I don't see their new or limited edition ranges anymore.

I have no problem with the size of the models, but I don't like the style of many of the photos. I also wish they would have more photos of different sized women. Colours look different when they are stretched differently.

I hate the way they portray body positivity. It implies that in order to show you feel positive about your body, you have to wear next to nothing and pose provocatively.
I am positive about my body, I can be positive without stripping off and posing like that.

Spot on! I'm the same- I recommend them but warn people. I certainly couldn't recommend to my teen nieces.

I've also hidden their ads. I've opened my phone three times in the past two weeks and basically had a pretty much full on bare bottom greet me.

Couldn't care less what size or gender the tights wearers are, but I do draw the line at having someone's bare arse poking out of my screen. I'll still buy their tights and maybe even the pants, it's just the bare arses I don't want to see.

You don’t think these images have a deliberate “amateur porn” aesthetic? I normally buy bras/pants from Fantasie (because they do large cup sizes), and I don’t see any of the photos of them on the John Lewis website shot so that it looks like you’re looking up their crotch or arse crack.

Can't think of any rational reason other than porn/ weird kinks why people would share such strange images with anybody other than their partner?!

Whether somebody is obese or not is a factual matter. It's not a case of one person "calling" another person something, it's a factual description.

Don't need to see cellulite? Why on Earth not?!

Was this a joke? Why would anybody want to see that? It's unhealthy and not pleasant to look at, hence people trying to avoid getting it.

The only blokes on the website are very clearly Blokes blokes and wearing tights for warmth.

Some of the pictures do have an air of "readers' wives" and some of the pictures are not particularly well lit or shot.

It's a shame because they have other lovely pictures like these two. The dress the model is wearing is from Palava and the picture and pose would fit in perfectly with Palava's very wholesome 1950s vibe.
