Snag Tights email

Fully prepared to get slaughtered for this but here goes.

I've bought tights from Snag before (and really like them) so I'm obviously on their mailing list. I'm a shortarsed size 16-18 so very far from a supermodel.

They've emailed this morning to advertise their new knicker range with images of women wearing them in all their glory and it really wasn't what I wanted in my inbox on a Friday morning. My own wobbly cellulite covered arse is bad enough, I don't need to look at other people's.

It feels like the whole 'body positivity' thing is going too far to me, I'm all for people being comfortable in their own skin but does that have to involve sharing it with the rest of the world? Leaving aside the fact it's not generally healthy to be over a certain size - and that includes me.

Agree. Good product but again I’m not represented as a size 16 anywhere which is a bit sad

PleasantBirthday · 14/01/2022 15:04

I'm in two minds. I do think, if you're selling something online, it's a good idea to let people know what they might look like if they were personally wearing them, not what they would look like on the best case scenario for the human form.

peachgreen · 14/01/2022 15:05

I imagine they have realised that the vast majority of their customers are plus-sized and are tailoring their marketing accordingly. You can always your tights elsewhere if it's not your cup of tea.

Butteryflakycrust83 · 14/01/2022 15:07

If your offended by seeing a big fat bum, you need to reassess your life, honestly.

I am sure they will not miss your business - they are by far the most successful plus size tights company.

foxgoosefinch · 14/01/2022 15:09

It’s not the bum, it’s the porn aesthetic.

ramonaquimby · 14/01/2022 15:09

I thought they were a plus sized brand too

CloseYourEyesAndSee · 14/01/2022 15:14

I'm annoyed that ALL the models are morbidly obese. I'm more than happy to see super plus size women modelling them as one of their USPs is tights for large people but come on - where are the tall skinny women who also need tights? The apple shaped 16s which are most British women? It's annoying.

CloseYourEyesAndSee · 14/01/2022 15:14

But they aren't a 'plus sized tights company' Are they? They are a well made tights company for diverse sized people
Butteryflakycrust83 · 14/01/2022 15:16

I didnt say they were a plus size company, but that is by far their main demographic - straight size women can buy tights anywhere - their niche is for those who cannot.

No, that's not true I have never found tights that fit as well as snags and I'm a size 16. They used to be about selling tights that don't wrinkle or fall down, whatever your size. Saying 'straight size people can buy tights anywhere' is literally ignoring their main marketing line which is that most tights are crap whatever size you are. 'We fixed tights' IIRC.
peachgreen · 14/01/2022 15:18

Yes but if their sales figures show that the majority of people buying their tights are plus sized, they may be shifting the focus of their marketing.

Butteryflakycrust83 · 14/01/2022 15:19

No, it is true. Straight size women can buy tights anywhere. whether they are any good or not is debatable. If you are plus size, especially over size 24, you cannot buy in physical shops etc.

Ki0612 · 14/01/2022 15:25

Their tights are excellent. They don't roll down. They are for every size but they are advertising as if only for plus sized so when you recommend them to average sized people it seems like you are calling them fat 🙈.

I wouldn’t want to look like that in a million years, any more than I’d want to look like a trussed-up ultra-thin Victorias Secret model.

I wouldn't particularly myself but I accept that while I'm not as well upholstered as some of the ladies we can see, I'm closer to that than VS...

Butteryflakycrust83 · 14/01/2022 15:37

Perhaps because again, the majority of SNAG tights do not see slim as aspirational. That's not the point of BOPO at all.

Butteryflakycrust83 · 14/01/2022 15:37

**Snag tights customers

Rainbowshine · 14/01/2022 15:39

I am a fan of the tights and under shorts, but the marketing and advertising has become more like soft porn which I don’t want to see on SM or in my inbox. It’s a disappointment as I was one of those who supported the company when they asked for money to pay forward (I think around 2 years ago) and I now feel wholly disconnected from how they present their products and who they are for.

JugglingJanuary · 14/01/2022 15:42

Gosh. Imagine having to see unusually large bodies or morbidly obese bodies... however will you cope. 🙄🙄🙄

GrumpyTerrier · 14/01/2022 15:43

I've just scrolled through their instagram and I saw a range of sizes, very slim, average, large. What am I missing?

IDidntKnowItWasAParty · 14/01/2022 15:43

I considered buying from them, but their photos put me right off. I'm at the smaller end, and they seem very much aimed at the larger sizes.

ShagMeRiggins · 14/01/2022 15:44

Yes but if their sales figures show that the majority of people buying their tights are plus sized, they may be shifting the focus of their marketing.
But why should they/would they? They’ve already snagged (sorry) the Plus Size market.

The obvious marketing move is to keep that going while also including other markets that haven’t been reached as comprehensively.

Their tights are by far the best I’ve ever worn, with a much better range of colour than most.

I think they struggled during the initial COVID period and hope they thrive, but I’d like to see them dominate in their original promise, which was—essentially—our tights fit everyone. Genius.

Why would that put you off?
Puffalicious · 14/01/2022 15:47

Totally agree that their tagline is ' We fixed tights'. Their USP is that their tights fight EVERYBODY properly, ie don't roll down, don't sag or wrinkle at the ankles no matter your size. Which is why I buy them. I also ordered them for 6 foot, size 10 niece. The reality is that I'm not shown in the marketing and they're supposed to be for EVERYBODY. I'm not fat shaming I'm trying to get representation for everyone (and which isn't pornographic, which lots of their marketing very much is. I can see men who have this kink heading to the website).

What's wrong with showing a 50 year old, size 14 mammy with her work clothes on feeling comfy? ie me! As well as a size 24 young woman off to college and a size 6 70 year old having a country ramble? Why dies it need to be in the bedroom with your bits out? I'm no prude, I just want non-sexualised advertising for a practical product.
