What do the cool mums wear?

Following on from the Mum Boot of Trainers thread, I am wondering, what do the cool mums wear? Are there any brands or items of clothing that are considered 'cool' for school run mums?

Following with interest!

Despite what some posters seemed to suggest, veja trainers seem to be part of that uniform.

Add in some sweaty betty leggings, an overrides black puffy coat and some designer sunglasses and you've got yourself a mum uniform.

realhousewifeofmodor · 30/12/2021 10:41

*overpriced

Slayduggee · 30/12/2021 10:47

Yes I need cool mum ideas! Atm I’m wearing any old thing and feel definitely mumsy!

psuedocream3 · 30/12/2021 11:08

Watching with interest...

It's subjective, I think the ones that aren't afraid of a bit of bold colour and fitted/tailored stylish clothing look the 'coolest' as they have their style confidence.

lollipoprainbow · 30/12/2021 11:09

What's wrong with just being and looking like a mum why does everything have to be 'cool'.

TheYearOfSmallThings · 30/12/2021 11:11

I don't think you can get cool from a list of brands or garments. Unfortunately, because I would love to be cool!

Legomania · 30/12/2021 11:13

I haven't abandoned any interest in my appearance just because I'm a mum.
However, on the school run I just wear jeans and a sweatshirt...

ExpectingLady93 · 30/12/2021 11:14

Leggings and jumper combo can't go amiss Grin ... love the next jumpers at the moment

Jacaranda75 · 30/12/2021 11:14

@TheYearOfSmallThings you CAN be cool Grin !

@lollipoprainbow it's a lighthearted thread. Jeez.

Unfortunately I think it’s a bit of a catch 22. People who spend time and money trying to look ‘cool’ are probably never going to look the same as those people who just look effortlessly cool (and who often are completely unaware of it!)

LiveFromNewYork · 30/12/2021 11:22

I think it’s more a natural sense of how someone puts things together and how insouciant they look. A nice figure helps, as always.

I also think it’s probably more about looking good for age. I see plenty of mums in their forties looking really nice but they are wearing quite a formulaic uniform (e.g Vejas, cross body bag, naice dress or jumpsuit etc). They look fab but I wouldn’t have said cool.

snapsieplopp · 30/12/2021 11:23

Cool is very subjective

Vejas for example are very pedestrian & not the height of trainer cool. I wear them though

Moonface123 · 30/12/2021 11:24

The coolest mums are the ones that wear the hell they like, discard the latest fads and couldnt care less about others approval.

snapsieplopp · 30/12/2021 11:24

I also think trying to look cool for the school run is a bit weird as like a pp says you tend to be cool or not cool.

RussianSpy101 · 30/12/2021 11:24

@realhousewifeofmodor ha this is usually how I look on the school run! I don’t own veja trainers though and have no plans to 😂

Gymshark leggings, a hoodie / sweatshirt & my huge puffa in the winter.

I don’t know if I’m cool or not but I’m not bothered.

Jacaranda75 · 30/12/2021 11:27

What, you mean like the mums wearing their pyjamas and dressing gowns on the school run, because clearly they couldn't care less Hmm.

@Flickflak I think you might have wandered into Style & Beauty by mistake Grin !

As for me, I wear Uniqlo skinny jeans, Air & Grace trainers and a blue Boden woolen coat on the school run. And gold aviators. Looking for some ideas for spring.

There are quite a lot of 'chic' mums at my child's nursery. There's a lot of black. Everything is quite simple - no garish patterns - and well cut. There's a mix though of more sports wear (sweaty betty leggings and Nike trainers) and stylish jeans/ankle boot combos. Lots of glossy hair.

cruffin · 30/12/2021 11:37

Sweaty Betty leggings, padded coat

snapsieplopp · 30/12/2021 11:40

Sunglasses?

@LiveFromNewYork - I agree with you re formulaic forty something School mum looks.

One mother woman I know who’s MD of a top creative company, she looks effortlessly cool but has her own style which is very much rock chick but mixed in trendy items too. She’ll wear a Frida Kahlo T-shirt with leather jeans, avoids but has Vejas but is also lucky being tall and slim can get away with a lot that I couldn’t do. We have a local boutique which has lots of Italian sequin and faux leather (QED) which she and I often get bits from.

For spring swap the skinnies for a looser fit or for dresses?
Coat for a lighter style or over shirt
