As I need inspiration to look after myself more but I hardly know where to begin other than I need to lose weight!

Hoping to get ideas from others as I'm not really into fashion and beauty and hoping to change this (within budget of course!)

Oh and I'll do my shellac later too :)

shewhomustbeEbayed · 19/01/2022 13:19

@SmashingBIouse I can so relate to your post as I have OA in both knees, I am trying to lose weight as apparently every 1lb lost is 4 lb less on the knees. I also can only wear trainers and as well as bog standard Skechers for everyday have bought some chunky cream Dlites in the hope they look edgy, wore to lunch with a couple of friends with wide black trousers with a side stripe ( need wide or flared due to swollen knees )
I was thinking about what has helped me to lose weight in the past, starting with poached eggs on Vogels bread for breakfast and sesame ryvitas for lunch ( I buy in bulk off Amazon and the boxes now contain pre-packed portions of 4 crackers which is ideal for lunch ) I have with something like a think slice of cheese and baby tomatoes.
Good luck everyone, keep up the good work.

psuedocream3 · 19/01/2022 14:32

Afternoon everyone, alls going well with skincare, haircare, vitamins, water, no alcohol or coffee. My diet needs a bit of work though, good call on the ryvitas @shewhomustbeEbayed, I used to eat these alot at my lowest weight, I will have to order some.

I need help with a few things -
Exercise ideas for at home (have a three month old)
DIY at home nail kit
Retinol - what does everyone use?
Concealer - I need to hide dark circles under eyes - any recommendations?

heelforheelandtoefortoe · 20/01/2022 07:52

Hi all

Diet is not going so good I'm afraid

However, I did buy a new hairdryer so my hair looks less messy.

Tonight I'm getting gel nails and my brows and lashes tinted.

I have also bought a new hair dye. Different colour - mahogany brown (normally dark brown) so we'll see how that looks. Hopefully not a disaster!

Have also been trying to wear some more jewellery in Zoom calls to look more professional and less casual!

Morning all.

I am kind of keeping up with things. My nails are desperate to be done. My skin is looking great. Started retinol (got the Sunday rielly one as had vouchers from Christmas), but taking it slow so will be a while before I see results, I imagine.

Eating is a lot better. Not perfect, but better. And getting better at the 'no make up, make up' look.

Still on the hunt for some decent jewellery for work. I was planning on treating myself to some of the Lisa Elderidge rings.....but wow the price!!! So that's a nope! Nearly passed out. Not very princessy behaviour at all 🤣

thebabessavedme · 20/01/2022 09:07

morning, I posted early on the thread but I,m still going Smile so yesterday I finally figured out what was 'off' with my face, my foundation! wrong colout totally, my skin tone has changed quite radically as I have hit meno but I just hadnt realised, a trip into town, some advice from a girl who quite plainly knew what she was talking about (beautifully applied make-up) and I look 10 years younger Grin (I wish!) also bought some mascara with lash lenghtening stuff and some detangle spray for my hair, its a full head of bleach and right now needs some loving care, talking of which I also bought some 'intimate' gel Blush menopause is taking its toll on our love life and I'm really fed up with it so I bit the bullet and just chucked some in my basket Blush daring ole me! Grin

shewhomustbeEbayed · 20/01/2022 09:37

@thebabessavedme inspiring stuff ! Let us know if the mascara works.
My hair has lost all it’s colour with age, it’s not gone grey, it looks like I’ve dyed it blonde but I have the horrible pink scalp showing through at the parting ( I do experiment with tinted dry shampoo or brown eyeshadow to colour it ) but it does make me look quite washed out. I feel like I need more make-up rather than less to counteract it. My mantra is to try and be more Joanna Lumley as she used to be dark when younger but is now blonde and always seems to look bright and interesting.

shewhomustbeEbayed · 20/01/2022 14:49

@thebabessavedme just been at a seminar where they recommended “Me & My menopausal vagina” by Jane Lewis

psuedocream3 · 23/01/2022 14:35

This week has gone well, I hope everyone has had good weeks too.

Despite a bad week diet wise, I have lost 1/4lb which is brilliant considering I ate way too many treats. I have eaten through all my Christmas food now so temptation isn't in the house. I also haven't had a drink in 7 weeks which must have helped.

My hair seems to be growing now about 1cm, had viviscal for two weeks so I'm glad to see some progress, and my hair is soft and looks thicker due to the elasticiser.

Also have been trying a new lipstick everyday, have found three that I will buy full sizes of those.

Things to do next week include sorting wardobe and photographing outfits, make a wishlist for clothes/jewellery gaps in my wardrobe so I can plan on budgeting for those and research SS/22 trends for hair/makeup/nails so I can get these done in March.

thebabessavedme · 23/01/2022 17:07

Well, no change with the eyelash length but the um 'gel' well, let's just say it was worth the money Blush Grin

MischiefManager · 25/01/2022 16:48

Can I join too please. I get married In August and would really like to feel amazing on the day and get into some good habits as a result. I have we my dress in two sizes, it would be nice to fit in the smaller one, which is currently too small, by the day. I'm doing my own make up too so need to seriously brush up on my skills!

Initial plans are-
Drink 2l of water a day
Eat at least 5 veg a day
Swap usual choices for whole foods
Reduce sugar gradually
Brisk walk with dog an hour a day
Yoga at home 3 times a week
Proper face routine am and pm - cleanse, tone, moisturise, eye cream, exfoliate weekly
Hand cream every time I wash hands
Nails short filed and clear polish
Treat gross manky toenails again that have so far resisted any treatment Confused
File and moisturise feet every evening
Look into natural teeth brightening options

AlDanvers · 26/01/2022 07:44

Morning all. Its been a bad few days. Well and truly fell off the Princess wagon. Lots of tears and heartache. But I forced myself to do the skin care last night.

I am also going to force myself to go for a walk AND eat well. I really need to get back on it.

Hope you are all well.

AnotherMansCause · 26/01/2022 07:55

I was struggling with going to bed earlier quite a lot at first, my body didn't seem to want to accept it & I kept waking up through the night for the first week or so, but now I'm sleeping right through & getting about 8 hours most nights. I used to manage on about 5-7 at the most. Now if anything I feel like I could even sleep a bit more if I had the chance. I'm certainly feeling a lot better.

I've been keeping up with the food diary to see what my trigger foods are for my horrendous migraines too & have definitely identified another one. Migraines have been much better recently, I've only had 4 big ones so far this year, I've actually booked my bike into the bike shop for a service (it's been in the shed for years).
Been drinking more too - which is good for my skin & kidneys, less so for my teeth as it's mostly decaff tea. I go through phases of liking it & then not liking it. When I'm not drinking it, the little stains on the back of my teeth definitely fade. @MischiefManager I recommend whitening toothpaste, maybe a bicarb one but don't brush with it, just get a squeeze & use it as mouthwash for a few minutes, for example when you're in the shower. Apparently brushing with bicarb pastes can make the teeth more sensitive as they're quite abrasive.

snackodactyl · 26/01/2022 11:53

replaced my nuface with the foreo bear which is going cheaper in a gift set with their serum than buying the machine on its own. it’s a lot quicker and more effective and i’m hoping will help me lose the dried out look on my face.

i’m three weeks in with my slendertone belt too and feel like my abs are slowly getting stronger. i don’t expect miracles just a bit of rehab in this area.

used some more undereye patches today and marvel at how effective they are. does anyone else use any they can recommend?

psuedocream3 · 26/01/2022 14:49

@AlDanvers I hope things get better soon [flowers}

@congratulations @MischiefManager

I've just signed up for Dermatica, I can't remember the last time I had a photo taken without any makeup on, but I'm not horrified, I think my skin looks good for my age so that is a bit of a confidence boost. I also have SPF50 in my Amazon basket ready to order.

I think I need an eyebrow and eyelash lift and tint, does anyone recommend any home kits?

AlDanvers · 26/01/2022 16:27

@psuedocream3 thanks. I am sure it will. Have had a walk put make up on. Done my nails. Feeling much better. Its just shit and I need to drag myself through. Really can't express how much this thread has helped.

I have seen dermatica recommended a few times, need to have a look.

When putting on spf, does it go on before skin Care or after?

psuedocream3 · 26/01/2022 16:44

@AlDanvers I hope so, I think having something to focus on helps. And self care, the little things in life that bring us joy can make such a big difference when the world gets a bit much.

I believe SPF should be put on after moisturiser so it doesn't get diluted, I have the la roche posay one in my basket but I saw an article on best SPFs and they have one that also has tinted moisturiser in too which I might find so that I'm not spending too long on skincare.

vjg13 · 26/01/2022 19:12

I bought all my eye lash dye components, papers, oxidant and dye from Amazon separately and find them good. The dye is the Strictly Professional and the oxidant is the Refectocil one. Not attempted a home lift though.
Inspired by another Style & Beauty thread, am actually doing a Philip Kingsley Elastiser treatment at the moment. I bought 2 tubes of it ages ago and also have the Superdrug own one. BlushI'm great at buying products, less good at using them.
Bought some new earrings which I love this week too.

declutteringmymind · 26/01/2022 21:02

Hi all.

Glad to see all are taking good care of yourselves.

I'm five pounds down and I've lost my fatty gills. My jawline and cheekbones are emerging!

I've really upped the skincare game and had my eyebrows threaded. OMG. it's like I've had a facelift.
Also my hair has been olaplexed 3 weeks in a row and I've been wearing my hair straight this week and although my hair is a bit boring it's so groomed.

I'm filing and polishing my nails in a pink tinted Chanel polish as a treat tonight.

I finally am beginning to feel I can emerge from hibernation.

foxlover47 · 26/01/2022 23:48

Hey all
Can I join in please ?
I'm
47, peri and just about to start hrt ..
I'm
On week 2 of a lower carb "diet "
My skin feels so dry even though I use the Clinique 3step ( sporadically lately I admit )
I've upped
My water , I've gone back to a ash blonde as I have so much grey I can't maintain the brunette ... which looks much warmer on me
I think I need
Good under eye patches , maybe a slender tone too after my last c sec 10 years ago ( I've had 3 )
Something for dark circles
And to actually do some
Kind of make up every day and dress better
I'm so pale and "haggard" looking I feel I look so much older

AlDanvers · 27/01/2022 08:01

@psuedocream3 thank you. I have some from an Advent calandar so will start using it as I am spending more time outside so really need an spf. I am using Isle of paradise gradual tanning drops, so my face will match my body but they keep staining my hands 🙄

@foxlover47 I definitely need something for dark circles. Still not found the holy grail unfortunately 😕

vjg13 · 27/01/2022 10:13

@AlDanvers I really like the St Tropez facial mist for a slight glow and you don't need to use it every day.

psuedocream3 · 28/01/2022 17:03

Hi everyone, had a rough few days, bad news and just feeling low. Had the coil fitted and feeling rather sorry for myself. It really took some effort to do my full routine today after not bothering at all yesterday. I also caved and had coffee, and chocolate, but tomorrow is a new day.

I've had a productive day otherwise. I have now found some photos of the hair colour/style I want which luckily is also from my local hairdresser's instagram, they are very talented so have saved this onto my vision board for three months time (when my hair has grown a bit).

I also had a MAC foundation sample come in the post, nice little pot to try. I have also added stacked earring photos(eek at the prices) and finalised my clothing shopping list and started looking for better prices and added them all to my vision board. My Dermatica prescription is in the post, they prescribed me tretinoin and niacinamide, quite excited to see how it will work for my skin.

Need to do my roots this weekend, my hair is growing a bit quicker than expected so need to order the toner. No rest for the wicked.

Hope everyone is getting on well and looking after themselves. I hope you are feeling better today @AlDanvers

MischiefManager · 28/01/2022 17:42

Thanks for the tip @AnotherMansCause Smile

So far I've been doing well with my face routine am and pm and my skin does look and feel better for it. Next week I really want to concentrate on upping water and reducing sugar. I'm going to prepare lots of easy to grab healthy snacks so it's less tempting to grab something processed.

AlDanvers · 29/01/2022 09:46

@vjg13 thank you I will try that. Probably easier to use Grin

Thanks @psuedocream3. Are you ok?

Does anyone have an recommendations for gold and or silver earrings. I dont mind paying a decent price. But everything find seem really over priced. I paid £65 for some vermilion eating from astely Clarke. They are nice but absolutely tiny. So small it's a struggle to get them in. Feel a bit ripped off Grin
