£400 for “really nice” jumper

PurplePikachu · 13/12/2021 16:43

A generous relative wants to spend about £400 (they’d go up to 500) on a “really nice” jumper for me.

My normal spending limit is around next/fat face/m and s, so I have no idea where to start looking at that price.

I’m middle aged, a bit fat (5 foot 8, size 14-16) and a SAHM. I like cashmere and very simple classic unfussy looks.

Any shop suggestions?

I’d use a site like Matches Fashion or Net-a-Porter

Sales might be on soon

House of Bruar has a good selection - and it’s cashmere hall in the Perthshire hills is a fab place to visit if you’re ever up this way Smile. Brora is also very nice.

The Fold seems popular on mumsnet and has increased in popularity due to two royals wearing it recently. They have some beautiful looking jumper-dresses if that's your thing.

I'd second Brora.

Joseph, Johnstons of Elgin, &Daughter. Tbh as snobby as this is about to sound, £400-500 isn't going to buy that much when it comes to high end cashmere so I'd agree look out for the sales if you're set on cashmere or go for wool.

KirstenBlest · 13/12/2021 17:02

&Daughter. I wouldn't spend that much because knowing me moths would eat it

Mercurial123 · 13/12/2021 17:13

I bought the Ines classic camel sweater from &Daughter in the sales for £210 at the beginning of January in the sales. It's really good quality.

I love Ryan Roche cashmere but she doesn't have much on her website at the moment.

Raey from Matches also has good really good knitwear. I got 50% reduction in December last year.

CovidCurious · 13/12/2021 17:15

Peter Hahn sometimes has some nice stuff.

CurryLover55 · 13/12/2021 17:18

5ft 8” & size 14 to 16 is nowhere near fat OP!

IntermittentParps · 13/12/2021 17:18

Chinti & Parker and Scott & Scott do nice cashmere. Both have outlets/good sales where you could get a couple of things for that budget.

WaltzingBetty · 13/12/2021 17:19

Eribe knitwear

What about Chinti and Parker?

MilduraS · 13/12/2021 17:25

I love Eric Bompard for cashmere jumpers. Sadly I've only ever been able to afford one Sad

LaurieFairyCake · 13/12/2021 17:25

The Cefinn lips jumper comes in different colours, cashmere - is £290 I think (my favourite is the navy)

So, so gorgeous

Brora again. They have some beautiful cashmere jumpers. I was recently given a cardigan from there for my birthday and I absolutely love it.

gogohm · 13/12/2021 17:28

Watch the channel 4 programme luxury Christmas for less before you buy more expensive cashmere, it's in the first episode. Spoiler, spending more doesn't get you a better jumper

Riverlee · 13/12/2021 17:29

Celtic and co jumpers look lovely. Also, Dale of Norway.

Mercurial123 · 13/12/2021 17:31

Pringle is still good quality. My friend was lucky enough to buy this in the sale

Can you get a ‘really nice’ £200 jumper and £300 in cash? 😆

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 13/12/2021 17:42

Do you really want a £500 jumper? If Next/Fatface is more your style, could you get a 'nice' jumper from one of them and put the remainder to something you really want?

DownToTheSeaAgain · 13/12/2021 17:43

Brora. Their cashmere hoodies are lush.

faustina · 13/12/2021 17:54

If you want classic and unfussy you really can't go wrong with Brora - (but don't get the gauzy knits - they're thinner) - have a look at &Daughter before you decide though as they have some really lovely designs. What a lovely present to receive!
