Rude man made me hate an outfit I was proud of

Bit crap with clothes, generally in running kit or jeans and shirt (wfh fulltime). Today taking Dd 13 Christmas shopping I thought I would dress up (for me) so wore white shirt with frilly collar, red cord dungarees www.newlook.com/uk/womens/clothing/playsuits-jumpsuits/burgundy-cord-dungaree-crop-jumpsuit/p/802092667 and boots.
Having lunch I got up and walked past a table where a man said ‘Excuse me, you’ve got a tag hanging down the back of your dress’. Me (mortified) ‘Oh how embarrassing! Thanks for telling me!’ Pull off tag ASAP and shove in bin. Man: ‘It is embarrassing to have paid that much for that dress.’
Just walked away but felt shit all day. Was it a terrible outfit? FWIW I am a size 10 and flat chested.

Man is a dick

SailingBuddy · 13/11/2021 23:28

What a horrible nasty man.

Those are lovely dungarees.

Redshoeblueshoe · 13/11/2021 23:30

That looks lovely. Annoyingly the best response comes 10 minutes later. What I would be inclined to say would not be appropriate in front of a 13 year old Wine

sborber · 13/11/2021 23:31

Ignore and brush it off. I'm sure you looked fabulous! What a twat he was.

BrutusMcDogface · 13/11/2021 23:31

It’s not a bloody dress, for a start. Ignore the man; he’s a twat.

I think they’re lovely dungarees and they only really look good on small chests in my opinion!

NotThatHomer · 13/11/2021 23:31

Love those! Tempted to buy a pair now. And yes, the man was a complete prick, some men just love to knock a woman down.

JuneySunshine · 13/11/2021 23:31

Oh what a pr**k! Your outfit sounds lovely and he's a sad case who has some problems that he's decided to take out on you. Hope it didn't ruin your day out.

MarthaJonesPhone · 13/11/2021 23:32

He's a twat that can't tell the difference between a dress and dungarees. You really wouldn't be taking fashion advice from him.

Btw, they're fab!

sayithow · 13/11/2021 23:32

Oh he's just a dick. Seriously have a proper think about what kind of person would say that to anyone and when you realise what kind of person he is - do you WANT him to like your style?

LawnFever · 13/11/2021 23:33

Your outfit sounds fab!

The man was rude & a twat, forget about him. Smile

Nearthelooplease · 13/11/2021 23:33

You didn’t need to include a link to the dungarees. Regardless of what they look like he was very rude.

glimpsing · 13/11/2021 23:33

Well, it's not even a dress, he hardly sounds like a fashion guru! He was probably scrabbling around for something funny to say. It's his social clumsiness not your's.

In the normal scheme of things, who comments? As long as what you wear covers appropriately and keeps you warm enough. Don't worry about it. If your clothes fit and are clean you cannot go far wrong shopping in any high street shop. They sell clothes the general public wear. 🤷‍♀️

IndecentCakes · 13/11/2021 23:35

That's such an idiotic comment - you just know he fancies himself as a wit and nobody wants to sit next to him at dinner parties. Blech.

NarcissistsEyebrows · 13/11/2021 23:36

You looked great, your DD would have told you if you didn't.

That man is a real piece of shit. At least you don't have to ever see him again. He had to live with that amount of bile inside himself every day.

You win

Appalonia · 13/11/2021 23:36

Those dungarees are lovely. I'm very busty so they'd look shit on me. Some men get a kick out of putting women down. Don't listen to him, wear what you want. If I'd seen you in them, I'd have thought, wow she looks great in them!

RicherThanYew · 13/11/2021 23:37

Forget the silly cunt with no social graces and revel in how lovely you looked.

TopCatsTopHat · 13/11/2021 23:37

'Did you just say something helpful just to create the chance to be shitty to a stranger, wow,, who stole your teddy!?'

What a dick

Craftycorvid · 13/11/2021 23:39

‘Well, I didn’t actually buy it -I stole it. Thanks for the heads up about the tag though.’ Tinkly laugh.

Haudyourwheesht · 13/11/2021 23:41

How did he come out of that exchange? Looking like an unkind prick, that's how. I'm a teacher and always say to the kids to try to make people come away from an encounter with them feeling better than they did going in, not worse.

Lobster5 · 13/11/2021 23:41

Very rude man. He probably felt it was inspired spur of the moment wit, as in saw a play on words and went with it. Imagine if you'd turned out to be someone very cool and famous (clearly a possibility in that outfit).

NancyIris · 13/11/2021 23:41

Thanks all. I was trying to go for something like this look. I really wanted this FatFace jumpsuit but all sold out so NewLook was the cheap and cheerful closest thing.

Great dungarees at a great price too! Having a tag hanging doesn't even register on the embarrassment scale, just not a big deal at all.

It is embarrassing to be a rude arsehole in public though.

Crimeismymiddlename · 13/11/2021 23:43

What an arsehole. I had a similar thing at work. Was wearing a lovely dress, felt great and actually looked really nice a male customer made a comment to me that I was not dressed like a manager and looked a bit of a state compared to my team. For once I stuck up for myself and told him that actually I looked nice and professional, and that unsolicited comments on my appearance were not welcome. Still got rid of that dress as soon as I got home though.

NancyIris · 13/11/2021 23:43

@Craftycorvid bingo! Why didn’t I think of that!

If he thinks £30 is a lot for dungarees Confused I think you can very much safely ignore his opinion.
