Is this chavvy?
I get why you'd think it but I think its more of a subtle modern version that the old block letter gold MUM necklaces.

He just told me to take it off because he doesn't like it. He was being petty because he brought a weird hat (that made him look like he was wearing a stiff condom on his head) last week and I politely and subtly asked him to wear the woolly hat and said it's more weather appropriate but really it wasn't because of that its just made him look so silly, its more suited for the hipster look. OH style is generally just well he doesnt care and will wear anything, doesnt care what it looks like together. I asked him to not wear this hat that he got last week.

My necklace is hidden and under my top, it's not being viewed by everyone.

Why do you tell each other not to wear things?

Mrsjayy · 13/11/2021 13:33

Well it's probably a bit tit for tat isn't it ? Fwiw the necklace is nice and not "chavvy" his inner hipster ego was bruised bet he loved his condom hat 😄

DameCelia · 13/11/2021 13:33

We'll I wouldn't wear it because I'm Mum, not Mama (and when did Mama become a thing in England?).
But that is completely irrelevant as it's not my neck we're talking about, it's yours. And you do like it.
What I, the rest of the internet, or your OH think doesn't matter a shit.
You like it, you wear it.

BruiserWoods · 13/11/2021 13:33

I think they were a bit common and certain bigger ones still are, but now that they're being produced in a more delicate way, they're a trend.

I don't care either way mind you. I'd wear one if I wanted one but those argos style ones are horrible and this is pretty.

Helpstopthepain · 13/11/2021 13:33

You tell him what to wear?

LakeShoreD · 13/11/2021 13:34

Wear the chav necklace. Let him wear his condom hat. Stop dictating what the other should wear because it’s weird and controlling.

Mrsjayy · 13/11/2021 13:34

Well there is that why are you telling each other not to wear things?

TheLastLonelyBakedBean · 13/11/2021 13:35

You should wear the condom hat and he should wear the necklace. Problem solved

Bin85 · 13/11/2021 13:36

I need to see a picture of this hat!!

CloseYourEyesAndSee · 13/11/2021 13:38

Did you buy it for yourself or did one of your kids buy it for you?

BruiserWoods · 13/11/2021 13:39

I'm not English, I'm Irish but my two call me Mama, I felt that it closed that chasm between the traditional Irish ''Mam'' from the Irish word Mamai and the perceived- to-be middle-class 'mum'. I called my own mother 'Mum' and some people who use 'mamai' or 'mam' had comments on that too, so what's the difference. Mama seems like a word that is perfectly half way between the two to me. It felt right. I have seen sideways eyerolls before I've looked away though.

So don't caaaaaare about it though!

SilverOtter · 13/11/2021 13:39

Have you got a picture of the condom hat?!😂😂😂

EdgeOfTheSky · 13/11/2021 13:40

I have no view on the necklace.

But I need to see that hat! Where did he get it?

teaandtoastwithmarmite · 13/11/2021 13:40

I've got a denim jacket DH doesn't like but I'll still wear it. My sister in law has a necklace like that and it doesn't look chavvy

Theunamedcat · 13/11/2021 13:41

Ummm a condom hat?
Is he trying to disguise the fact that he is a bit of a dick?

Did he listen to you about the hat?

Neither of you should really be telling each other what to wear

I think I need to see a picture of said hat

teaandtoastwithmarmite · 13/11/2021 13:42

And my dd has called me mama when she was younger. Not prompted by me at all. And we are English.

otterlybonkers · 13/11/2021 13:43

If we are talking about that section of the UK population which prefers tracksuits to pant suits, fucking around with farting car exhausts and keeping savage, neglected dogs trapped in small yards for 18 hours a day, then I would suggest it is far too subtle, delicate and pretty.

Your DH needs to expand his education of social groups.

😂 I normally hate the word CHAV and any associated stereotypes but you just described half my estate. That was spot on!
TheMarzipanDildo · 13/11/2021 13:45

Urgh hate the word chavvy. YANBU just for that!

Rainbowheart1 · 13/11/2021 13:45

They are a bit chav, even when “small and delicate” it’s still a name tag saying mum/mummy/mama.

If you like it though that’s all that matters, he likes his hat too I imagine.

LaBellina · 13/11/2021 13:46

@LakeShoreD

hotmeatymilk · 13/11/2021 13:47

So when you control what he wears it’s polite and subtle, but when he controls what you wear it’s telling you? Do the pair of you even like each other?

StrychnineInTheSandwiches · 13/11/2021 13:52

you should have a Mexican standoff with him in his condom hat and you in your mama necklace.

KirstenBlest · 13/11/2021 13:56

Could you post a photo or link to the stiff condom hat please?

Stinkyslippers · 13/11/2021 13:59

I’ve just lost it at ‘stiff condom hat’

I’m so childish…

(Really need to see a picture)
