I want trousers that just fit me. Happy to buy cropped or ankle grazers as full length.

Size ten, quite a big bum and hips so can't buy children's.

I’m a 23” leg and buy river island & m&s extra short, or buy an expensive pair that will last years and get them tailored (£6-10) at my local cobblers , to fit.

dontcallmelen · 05/11/2021 17:43

Russell & Bromley/LKBennet are good for small size footwear £££ though.

raffegiraffe · 05/11/2021 22:22

M and S. Mia slim are fantastic. Both me and my also short mum love them. I'm also size 10 with a decent bum and hips

babyinthacorner1 · 10/11/2021 13:43

I bought the boyfriend jeans from M&S. So comfy and a great fit, but… they look ridiculous with my Vivo trainers! I look like a weird, dressed down clown! They look marginally better with my vivo chelsea boots but I can’t just wear them with them…

thevassal · 10/11/2021 15:22

Its pretty easy to take trousers up an inch or two. Watch a YouTube tutorial and you're good to go. Obviously works better if trousers aren't absolutely insanely long to start with because then the fit will be off not just the length (I could probably make a second pair of trousers out of some h&m stuff!).

If you can't sew you can use wonderweb tape and just iron in place?

Hello all - this was one of the petite threads from last year....

www.mumsnet.com/Talk/style_and_beauty/4046756-The-petite-thread-for-the-short-of-whatever-size-shape-or-taste

I'm 5' (size 6-8) and live in jeans but have had a bloody nightmare trying to find non-skinny ones that fit over the last few months. Must've tried well over a dozen styles and even more sizes. I feel your pain!

Next sizing used to be reliable but has gone a bit mad over the last few years, M&S short works great for me but my body shape doesn't seem to suit them (curvy bum and thighs, small, short waist) - I tried on their high-waist wide-leg in size 6, short last night and LOVE the 70s styling but jeez, the waist almost comes up to my boobs - madness! I want a medium rise, looser straight leg - but apparently, that's too much to ask for... I've tried GAP, Levis, M&S, Next and am fed up with the constant ordering and returning. Skinnies were so much easier! Sadly I ditched all my boot cuts etc from the early 00s a few years ago....

Dellabob123 · 11/11/2021 07:41

Same sizing as you @Tsmummy08

I posted up thread about the reiss jeans. Perfect length and waist and length for me

Tsmummy08 · 11/11/2021 07:49

Thanks @Dellabob123
Yes, I saw those but can't spend >£100 on jeans (sadly)!

Dellabob123 · 11/11/2021 08:10

They are £££ sadly
Only other place I had success with was h and m for cropped straight jeans for tall people.

Tsmummy08 · 11/11/2021 08:57

Dellabob123 I'll give those a try next, thanks :)

userwhatever01 · 11/11/2021 14:42

@thevassal yes, I know how to take up trousers. Yes, I know it's not hard. I don't want to have to bother.

SO I have ordered cropped 501s in the hope they fit but jut seen @Tsmummy08 that's she's tried them already. Fingers crossed!

H&M kids is a good shout. I have a few pairs of their jogging bottoms and also some great jumpsuits (for loungewear), in an age 14+.
if the Levis don't fit will try those tall people's cropped.

Haven't RTFT so don't know if anyone has mentioned Gap yet? I'm short and have several pairs of regular 27" leg jeans which are a nice fit.

33goingon64 · 11/11/2021 15:08

I'm just under 5'2". Next or M&S. Great value, petite sizes. M&S even do an extra short in some designs.

thevassal · 12/11/2021 11:52

Bit of an aggressive response. I wasn't patronising you, a lot of posters previously were suggesting tailors to take up trousers and I was only stating that in most cases it's actually fairly easy to do themselves to encourage people to give it a go and save some money. For lots of the cheaper trousers the cost of a tailor would be more than the cost of the trousers. I've been that person before when I've just assumed x task would have to be outsourced and was pleasantly surprised when I realised I could do it myself.

Don't really see why if you have an ability to do something that would expand your choice hugely you wouldn't give it a go if you are so limited that the majority of even petite sizes are no good but that's up to you.. I am also short and personally prefer to buy trousers and jeans I like, are affordable, comfortable and fit well and spend 5 minutes taking up the hems rather than spending a huge amount of effort finding one pair with the right length even though I don't particularly like them.

If you didn't know how, don't want to, or aren't able to make alterations that's fair enough but how am I supposed to know that?

userwhatever01 · 13/11/2021 12:31

OK shorties. The Levis arrived! And….. they are the right length! Hurrah !

They are slightly tight, I should have gone for a waist number up. Will they give a give over the years?

Also not 100% on the colour but once something is in the house it’s just easier to wear it….

OP posts:
userwhatever01 · 13/11/2021 12:33

@thevassal fair enough but my WHOLE POINT for starting the thread was so I didn’t have to take the trousers up, or to a shop or whatever.

I can do a lot of stuff. But I don’t have to.

MincePieandBaileys · 14/11/2021 17:56

I'm under 5ft tall and usually buy trousers from Bon Marche. Their leg lengths start at 25" and fit really well.

www.bonmarche.co.uk/womens/clothing/trousers-and-shorts/?utm_medium=cpc&utm_source=google&utm_campaign=1842379365&utm_term=bon%20marche%20trousers&source=&gclid=Cj0KCQiAhMOMBhDhARIsAPVml-GqxE2ilP18SQEXLgYK1cAdOPllytPELchYVA4etBh0-zbtWXP2os0aAgIxEALw_wcB&gclsrc=aw.ds

If you need to shorten trousers Wundaweb is very easy to use, much neater than sewing.

LouH1981 · 14/11/2021 18:36

Next petite have always been my friend and sometime M&S

llewejk · 14/11/2021 18:42

I'm 5'1 and have found m&s short to be good and just started to use next again.

I have bought fat face cropped trousers for trousers!

notoldjustpastyoung · 14/11/2021 19:01

Aren't you able to turn them up and sew the necessary amount if you like a pair of trousers. There's nothing wrong with doing that.

OhRosalind · 14/11/2021 19:22

The cropped Levi’s do stretch a bit so if they’re only slightly tight I’d keep them.

WhoAteMyBiscuit · 14/11/2021 19:24

I am 5'1 and have bought a couple of pairs of trousers from Saint + Sofia that have been the perfect short length for me! For one pair, I went for the shortest length and they have been fine for me to wear with trainers (no dragging on the floor). The other was a cropped style, which on the (tall) model came to her mid-shin, on me comes to just above my ankle and that's fine for me on days I went to be more "smart casual" at work.

cardoon · 14/11/2021 19:30

These Abercrombie & Fitch Mom jeans are great, they come in short (25") and extra short (23"). If you're curvy they do the same in the curve love style.

wooo69 · 14/11/2021 20:18

I have the opposite problem in that I need 34” - 33” at a push inside leg. I just can’t understand why manufacturers do not make more lengths. I can look through a rack and see “long” and think great I’ve found some and then they are 31” or 32”

JFM27 · 14/11/2021 23:04

Im 4 11 suze 6/8 M&S is one of few places i can get trousers jeans or jeggings that fit. At one time they didnt do 6 in petite whuch seemed crazy as its normally in real world only petite women who are size 6,But finally they did
